While working on some balance issues, the physical therapist sent home an elastic band to pull one leg sideways while stepping. It was a typical super flat band, maybe 4 inches wide, and not very long. So when I tied it around the treadmill and made a loop for my knee, it was barely long enough, plus pulling that loop on and off to change legs was annoying. I ordered this set, and I'm very pleased with them. First, while not as wide at a regular PT band, these are much thicker. They're like a giant rubber band rather than a flat sheet of elastic. That allows me to attach one end around the treadmill (loop and through), and to step into the large open ring on the other end, exactly what I wanted. The mid-size bands are around 6 feet long when at rest; of course they get longer when stretched. Since the band from PT wasn't rated, I guessed and used the 25- to 65-pound band and that worked for me. For a different PT exercise with a belt, I used the next size up and just looped it around my waist. Works great! I feel like I should probably hang these on the wall in my small fitness room and admire them. The bag is nice, but folding them and putting them back in the bag with their own regular rubber bands to hold them in the closed position is probably too much work if you plan to actually use these regularly. The only negative is more psychological than real. I've never broken a flat elastic band, but since these remind me of giant rubber bands, and since I have definitely been whacked when a stretched rubber band broke, I keep wondering how much stretching is too much. I think the bottom line is that these can be stretched a lot without breaking, probably much more than I feel safe with. And since there is a selection of bands, you can just move up to the next size. there's a big difference between, in my case, having your knee pulled with 25 pounds of force to the side versus 65 pounds! I've had to be a lot less OCD about these PT exercises because unlike lifting weights (dumbbells, barbells, weight machine), where you know exactly how much weight you're lifting, the bands are just approximate, so you have to adjust your expectations a little. On the other hand, it would take a lot of pulleys and fasteners and weights to do what one band can do. One minor criticism is that the booklet could be more informative about other exercises that can be done with the bands, but for now they're doing what I need to do.     • Works fine but don’t love the smell
These bands come in a good variety of resistance levels but they are not as easy to use as I had hoped, and the handle needs a better design. There is also a very strong off-gassing smell that I don’t like. I do however appreciate how easy they are to store and keep handy when I’m watching tv. I can get some reps in while sitting on my couch, so I don’t turn into a couch potato. I just have to wash my hands after use. ... show more

These resistance bands are pretty great once you figure out how you like to workout with them. I wasn't a resistance-band person when I ordered them, but thought I should be. But once I looked up some ways to workout with them and went through some trial and error -- and they did come with some instructions and tips, which was nice -- then I actually liked using them. I think the resistance levels are great, and even from the first time I used them, I could feel it in muscles that they were providing the workout I was looking for. The labeling on each band is clear and helpful, as is the color-coding, so when you're first starting out you know which one to go with. It's also helpful that they came with several levels of resistance so I could work up to the higher resistance gradually. I really liked that they came with the door anchor. I started using it to assist with squats to relieve some pressure on my knees and it was surprisingly helpful to me. Overall, I really like them and still use them. ... show more
