  • Amazing as long as you set it up right!
Color: Blue
Fell in love with boxing as a workout at the gym to mix things up as a runner. Wanted something I did not have to mount in the frame of my home but I could get the same intensity of a workout. The wave master XL is amazing as long as you do your part to set it up right. Make sure to get some wrap and punching gloves! Smaller/cheaper stand alone bags just aren’t heavy duty enough to go full power on. Setup: Make sure you fill the base all the way I recommend sand and get a funnel to fill it so you don’t make a mess. I used 5 bags of sand at 50 pounds each. After ensure you buy a non slip rug mat (like what you put under a rug so it doesn’t slide and trim it down so it doesn’t stick out too much. I laid it directly on tile in my basement. This would be very loud upstairs. Do that and you can go to town on this and it won’t move a bit. If you do not just know it will slide around a lot as the base is smooth on the bottom. Don’t screw bag on until after you fill the base or the base will cover the fill hole. Very happy with this purchase, high quality and didn’t have to affect the frame of my home. Very easy to move and unscrew from the base. Kids and wife love to go to town and it to and it will hold up all day. Con: doesn’t bother me but if you are a visual person the fabric on the bag does bunch up a bit where you tend to punch the most. The integrity of the bag holds up nicely however and this is only visual which personally I don’t care. ... show more

  • Good bag, easy set up
Purchased for a workplace training room (one of my co-workers has had one in home for the past year and recommend the xxl for a work trainer). It arrives in two large boxes via trucking company. The base in one and the bag in the other. After reading other reviews, I filled our base with sand. I used a traffic cone and living in MN was able to get a few cheap "tube" sand bags that go in the back of trucks for winter weight/traction. Using a upside down traffic cone as a funnel it easily took four 60 pound bags of sand. Only drawback was the grade of sand produced dust, would maybe have done sandbox sand had I known. Anyways, after reading some reviewers talk about taking hours to fill, ours only took about 15 minutes (needed another ten for dust clean-up though) Once filled the top screws in easliy and it is ready to use. It rolls into place quite nicely and takes hits well. I am 6'3" 210 and have no trouble pucnhing the bag nor feel it is to short for my height. With 240 pounds in the base it doesn't move much, but will slide a little depending on the type of floor you have it placed on. We are using ours next to a battling rope and it is a nice combo to get the heart rate up, fatigue the upper body, and work on striking techniques. ... show more

  • Solid Stand Alone Heavy Bag!
Color: Blue
I'm giving this a 5 based on other stand alone heavy bags that I've used. If I'm comparing to a good hanging heavy bag I'd probably give it a 4. I'm also giving it 5 having filled it with sand instead of water. If it is filled with water there is so much more movement of the base. The movement of the water inside the base makes it kick around entirely to much when getting in a work out. With sand the movement of the base is minimal. I am 6'2" 300lbs. Been boxing about a year now and I can lay into it pretty hard before it really moves around. I also have it on a rubber mat which helps with the skidding around. If you are going to fill it with sand, do yourself a favor and spend the $20 to $25 for the 50lb bag of dried, white sandbox sand. It took me 3 hours, with a wide mouth funnel, to get 100lbs of $5 wet sand bags. I do not have the patience for that. I order white sandbox sand from Walmart had it the next afternoon and It took me all of 5 minutes to get the other 150lbs of the good white sandbox sand in. Will update if neccessary! So far after 3 workouts, I'm very happy with this. ... show more

  • WAVEMASTER XXL TRAINING BAG
I'm 6ft even and about 275 with hard, heavy punching and kicks. The bag took a few days of getting use to. I didn't like the moving and wobbling around, that I got when the base was filled with water. After filling with sand, it moved for my #2 bag, to my #1. I still moves, but not as much, and has increase my foot-work more. My opponent wouldn't stand still in the same spot, so it makes sense that the bag shouldn't either. A little lighter then I would prefer, but still solid enough to complete a heavy duty workout. Wife like the bags because she is 5'2" and can strike the bag as her level without having any height adjustments. Base is low enough for her to accomplish a good workout, without downtime. We have wood flooring, and home gym is upstairs; so it does make quite a "thump!" if the base tips off the floor. Heave duty rubber mats decrease the sound by at least 60%. Overall. I good beginner to advanced user bag. I also, like the fact that I can easily move the unit from one room to another, upstair to downstairs, and/or to the garage. You can't do this with hanging bags. Even if you use one of those metal support hangers, you just can't achieve the versitility of a free-standing bag. My only small, little, minute complaint was with the cover. I thought I'd get the red cover design with the WAVEMASTER XXL logo which spanned almost the full length of the bag. Instead I received the round original Wavemaster XXL logo. Hey! I said my complaint was minor. I gave 4 1/2 stars for all the pros, and took a 1/2 a star for the bag cover change. I like what the online picture shows, but still would recommend this bag. ... show more

  • Great free standing training bag
I would love to have a typical ceiling hung training bag, but that does not work in our basement. I purchased this device along with a BOB. There are advantages to a free standing device, mainly that you don't have to tear your ceiling down and risk damaging your home with repetitive pounding of a heavy bag. A bag stand is cumbersome and is too dangerous when working kicks. Don't want to accidentally kick the metal post. Free standing bags can also be easily moved when necessary. What I like: 1. Tall size. I'm over 6 ft tall. This bag is perfect. When using BOB, I have to have him up at the highest setting, then I can't work low kicks. 2. Soft padding. Much softer than a typical heavy bag, and is not rubbery like the BOB. After working with the BOB for a while, the skin on my knuckles are raw. The wavemaster is much more comfortable. My wife likes it much better than the BOB. 3. Seems pretty sturdy. Although I've only had mine for a few days, we have some in our Krav Maga class. They hold up well. 4. Plenty stable for us. When filled with water or sand, it's yet to tip completely over. It does tip a bit, then slam back down, making lots of noise unless you are in a basement. As a previous reviewer noted, the bag shipped with a round, somewhat retro looking logo - not the larger logo as seen in the picture here. If I was to redesign this thing, I'd make the base larger in diameter and shorter. Would lead to a bit more stability. For those deciding between this and the BOB, I'd say that the BOB makes a much better visual target, but the rubbery texture catches your glove. You'll feel much more fatigue in your knuckles, and your wrists. I'd recommend the wavemaster for frequent training. ... show more

  • Very good heavy bag
Like other reviewers, we didn't have an appropriate place to hang a heavy bag, so gave the Wavemaster XXL a shot. I got this primarily for my 6 year old son who's taking Tae Kwondo and needed to practice his kicks at home. The base is fairly large and easily holds 250 pounds of pea gravel for ballast. Perhaps I should have gone with water, but my son's coach suggested gravel because it weighs more and doesn't slosh when you hit the bag. I may regret that decision when it comes time to get this out of the basement family room, but that may be years from now. That ballast keeps the bag from moving too terribly much. Of course, my son can wallop the bag with kick after kick and the bag stays put. I couldn't resist the temptation to work off the occasional bout of frustration myself and bought myself a pair of boxing gloves. I'm 6'1" and weigh 225. When I work up a good sweat with this bag, it does move a fraction of an inch per punch. This isn't really a problem though, I just work my way around the bag to keep it in its place. I can't imagine punching this bag hard enough to cause the cylinder to break, but I imagine that a good sized adult kicking this bag hard could possibly damage it. If that happens, we'll replace the cylinder with another and fill that with about a foot of gravel per suggestion of other reviewers. Some dissassembly and cutting may be required to accomplish that. In any case, that will be years from now. Of all the stationary bags I researched, this is the most solid and heaviest I've seen. I recommend it highly. If you want to see one in use, go to U-tube and search for "XXL Bag". You'll see several videos of people giving this bag a workout. ... show more

  • As close to a classroom MMA bag as you're going to get
Color: Blue
Buy it- you won't find another one out there for such a reasonable price as on Amazon ($260 shipped to my house!) nor will you find one from a different brand that will meet your expectations of a full sized bag that you can practice mma on. The base is between a foot and 16" off the ground, the rest is the bag all the way up to nearly 6'. I'm 5'10" and it's a bit taller than I am. Shipped in two bags; base in one, bag in the other- both boxes were lightweight since the base is plastic and the bag is plastic core with foam and protective outer cover. There's this "nut" the the base sits on and when you screw the bag in, the nut secures the bag to the base- without the bag screwed in, the nut falls down, but that's how it is supposed to be. So I'm a 5'10", 210lb woman. I got this for my mom since she's got a lot of anger issues since my dad passed away from cancer- I figured it would save us money on her killing the house' shades every other week when they don't operate correctly. Mom is 5'6" and around 170lbs. I filled it with water since I was afraid she wouldn't be able to move the bag if I filled it with sand (she can roll it into the middle of the living room and then off to the side when she wants to just watch TV)- also, I feared not being able to maneuver it into the living room as you need to fill the base with sand outside. I set the base up in the middle of the living room, put a large garbage bag (laid flat) under the side where the cap and opening are, and used what everyone else said- the cut off top of a one gallon milk jug- as a funnel. I filled about half of it by myself until the "funnel" wouldn't stay upright anymore, so mom had to hold it while I poured the water in. Took no more than 30 minutes to fill. I put telfon tape on the base's opening to ensure no leakage as others have commented about (no leaks at all even when I tipped it over on purpose). The bag moves along the rug if you hit it hard, so I can't put my full force into it. Mom hits and kicks on one side and I do the same on the other so we keep it going back and forth and when it moves too far towards her, I switch sides with her. Get a set of gloves- the bag is hard. I had 16oz gloves from my mma classes already, but before we got the bag, I took mom to Dick's and she tried gloves on- she got a pair of 12oz. Everlasts- white. I don't recommend using only wraps if you want to hit it hard. When I get another bag for myself, I will fill it with sand so I can hit it full force- the water sloshing around in it makes it move too much for my liking. Lastly, get a nonskid/slip mat for under it- my yoga mat doesn't work well, so I will be getting one of those commercial rubber mats they put down when you stand on cement floors all day. ... show more
