  • Versatile, multifaceted training bag
Style: Versys
Excellent training partner. Most, if not all, punching bag systems are not designed for kicking. The bottom of a heavy bag is hard as a brick. At that, not all varieties of kicks can be attempted without risking injury. Assembly is simple. This comes in two pieces. The base is a 110 pound filled bag with a zipper. The body is a foam cored vinyl bag. The user simply aligns the zipper and zips around the base while pushing the protruding foam inside; this is analogous to zipping up some luggage. The whole process took less than 5 minutes, and it's a one person job. It is relatively easy to transport in the same floor, as you can drag this on smooth surfaces. This is a multipurpose training tool. There are straps at the bottom for doing sit-ups or crunches. There are straps at the top for takedowns and grabs. The multitude of kicks can be attempted from the front, side, and back, as well as directing head, ankle, knee kicks. This takes strikes from all angles. The fun thing is that you can do knee, elbow, backhand, hammerfist and ridgehand techniques. In addition, this can be used to practice takedowns and ground and pound techniques. When you punch or kick this. It tends to sway back and forth. Sure, an all out punch or kick will knock it down, but the goal is to kick it with control to minimize the risk of injury. It will sway and rock as you punch it back and forth or side to side. It won't tend to make excessive noise like the water filled punching bags. If you have limited space, you won't have to hang a mount as you would with a heavy bag. Overall, it is the most versatile for most of your boxing, martial arts or other sporting needs. Two thumbs up! ... show more

  • Get one!
Style: Versys
This is a cool bag, it reminds me of the inflatable clowns I used to punch as a kid that would pop back up. Its not so great for combinations because the first hit causes it to rock back, but I bungee'd the top of the bag to the ceiling through the handles on top and that worked pretty well. The bag is great for kicks, but if you have any kind of power the base will slide around so if you want it to stay in one place, get a rubber mat to put under it to hold it in place. This is way more fun to kick the crap out of than a punching bag and easier on my arms, wrists and legs because its got some give and the bag part is foam. The top and the base are shipped in separate boxes and then you zip them together - which is easier than I thought it would be ones you get started just pull the top toward you as you zip around and its no problem. I like this because you can hit or kick it pretty much anywhere- so if you accidently kick the base it wont break your foot off, unlike some of the standing bags I have had in the past. ... show more

  • Love this bag!
Style: Versys
I've had the bag for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I had been researching heavy bag options for a few months before coming across this design. This cuts the need for a giant heavy bag and stand and is far less cumbersome than the wavemaster products. I move my coffee table and drag this bad boy into the center of the living room and "boom!" instant dojo. Accompanied by my favorite movie or music, this is a great way to get an intense workout at home. I have been practicing mixed martial arts for 10+ years and have no problem using this bag to it's full intended extent. To all the people expressing concern about knocking this bag over, or not being able to go full power, I say "learn to snap your kicks and punches!" Sure I "can" knock this bag over with one strike, but there is absolutely no reason to. When struck properly this bag will absorb a devastating strike and pop right back up for another. It almost works like a huge speed bag. I work speed, power, combos, kicks, knees, elbows, standing, g&p, clinch as well as numerous ab and calisthenic workouts all in the comfort of my second floor condo living room. This is an excellent purchase, and at the cost of roughly two months' boxing classes it's also a fantastic investment. ... show more

  • Not for hard strikers or rapid strikes
Style: Versys
After buying a V.SPAR.1 (youth version) for my kids, I was worried about this one knocking over too easily. This one is about what I expected. It's not perfect for me, but it resists much better than the youth version. I am lean, 6', 180lbs, moderately strong, and have been doing various Martial Arts for a combined total of 3yrs. I can easily knock it down with a single punch or kick, but I have to put a little power into it. It would be great for the intermediate age of 8yrs - 16yrs, where the V.SPAR.1 starts falling over too easily, but they don't yet have the power to slam this one down. If you have decent power, you won't enjoy it if you are looking for a bag to do cardio-style workouts (kickboxing, etc). It moves well out of striking range with my first hit, so I can't combo quickly. Waiting for it to return to hit again defeats the purpose of a cardio workout. If you hit lightly, you can certainly do quick jab, cross, kick combos. It can slide around on foam mats. I use it in my little home dojang with 3/4" foam mats (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00659XV24/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_3p_dp_1) and it can scoot a couple millimeters with each strike. Some Pros (since my review seems a bit negative): * It is extremely convenient and great for portability, not requiring any stands or a dedicated area of your home (mounting, etc). * Excellent for younger trainers who find the V.SPAR.1 too easy to knock over. * Great for working on a single technique or strike, but not combos. * Very high build quality. This feels like it will last a long time, and I've seen them in several MMA gyms. * Obviously great if you are doing take-downs. Good luck slamming down a hanging bag :) ... show more

  • Perfect for Krav Maga
Style: Versys
*Full review below* Quality: 9/10 The zipper that attaches the bag to the base is tough as nails, but I wish there were some snaps or something to back it up. If it ever broke, the bag would be useless. That's a really nitpicky complaint though. The odds of breaking that zipper are practically zero. Functionality: 8/10 Tough, tall, and great for any kind of attack including takedowns. Slide it into a corner to avoid knocking it over. Design and Mobility: 10/10 Unlike heavy standing bags with huge sand or water filled bases, this is great for upstairs apartments, wood floors, carpet, and closet storage. Worth the money? Heck yeah. Ok let's think about the design of this real quick. The base is a fancy sandbag that weighs around ninety pounds while the upper portion is basically a solid block of foam around six feet tall that's extremely light. If you're expecting this to feel like a heavy bag, you're going to be disappointed. It's still the best bag I've trained with though, and here's why. I'm a mid-twenties, 180 pound, male, Krav Maga enthusiast. While my punches aren't going to have the same force as a heavyweight boxer, they're not something you'd intentionally want to stand in front of if you can help it, and I needed a bag that could stand up to lots of punishment. However, I live in an upstairs studio apartment, so I can't hang a bag and I don't want to fill a big plastic base with sand or water and get it stuck up here, so a bag I could pull out and then put away was a must. This thing is perfect for that. When I want to do a heavy workout with lots of fast repetitive punches, knees, and kicks, I just slide the bag over into a corner so I wont knock it over. If I want to practice takedowns, ground attacks, or do punching sit ups, I slide it back into the middle of the room. Zipping the bag onto the base took about 45 seconds of awkward squeezing and pushing (would be easier with two people for sure) but other than that it's ready to use straight out of the box. The construction quality is top notch, and the thing looks downright sexy. You're not going to find a better made, or more versatile bag at this price. ... show more

  • Very sturdy, wonderful fighting pell, highly highly recommended.
Style: Versys
This is an excellent fighting and training pell for anyone. The unit comes in two boxes, the base arrives pre-filled with sand and the pell in a separate box. Laying the pell next to the base, you connect the heavy duty zipper and work the zipper closed, then fold the flap over. Once done, this is AMAZING. Great for kicking and punching, kids like to tackle it, but it works great and well worth the money. ... show more

  • Do not mistake this for a heavy bag replacement.
Style: Versys
Do not mistake this for a heavy bag replacement - that's not what it's designed for. Excellent for skill and technique training (I use it for building combative combo muscle memory in Krav Maga while also building cardio). Excellent for striking, knees, low kicks, high kicks, ground and pound drills, etc - especially combos leading to the floor followed by ground and pound. Good Cardio - see some of the YouTube videos for sit-ups, plyos, dead lifts and many other solo things you can do with it. Again, do not mistake this for a heavy bag substitute for full strength or full speed attacks. If you buy it for the right reasons, youlls definitely work up a sweat working on important stuff and you'll love it. Piece of cake to put together and quality is great. I use it every off day. ... show more

  • Jack of all trades competent at none and its base stretches out in time.
Style: Versys
*6 month update* I actually came around and started liking this bag. I realized that It needs space to swing back at you and if you time it right you get the resistance from the swing back that's a semi decent work out. I was very happy and lost a lot of weight doing something fun! Sadly... the base stretched out. Over time the bag wanted to swing back or even stand up straight less and less until now, 6 months later its nearly useless. Its a droopy lump of foam that you can hit once before it sags the opposite side you hit it making it useless... so yea, the same deal still applies. You can't return it without spending over 100 bucks on shipping and you'll only get a limited use out of it before its useless for standup. This is NOT a heavy bag, I get that... but a moderate jab will slam the top half back against your wall. A hook at half speed? Out of the question unless you have enough space for it to flop on the floor and the patience to stand it back up again each time. This raises the question of "What is this even for?" from what I read its to "Practice combinations" on. Practice combinations? I can practice combinations on the cardboard box it came in with equal effectiveness only that doesnt cost $250+ If you don't plan on punching it in stand up, it DOES have some usage. Holding on to the top handles allows you to throw knees, an ACTUAL strength building workout, wow! Its not a great one, the bag sort of bends around your knee, denying you a satisfying strike but its possible to actually knee it, unlike punching it with any strength. You can flop it on the ground and practice slamming and ground and pound. Thats something! Except its not as good as an actual ground and pound bag though... To get one of this size and weight it would cost you an average of $110 not $250! just like its not a heavy bag or a speed bag. ITS NOTHING. Its trying to be multi use but its the most unnecessary piece of gym equipment you could ask for. If you want to build strength and give yourself a workout, you'd want a heavy bag or a speedbag. If you want to practice ground and pound, there's more specialized ground and pound bags out there. So for 250 dollars? Buy virtually any other MMA, boxing bag out there. ... show more
