I’ve been using Nikon Monarchs for years now (8x42) for hunting, and they spoiled me. My eyes refuse to look through junk lenses. When I wanted another set to enjoy birds in the backyard, I wanted something in 12 power and I didn’t want to break the bank. I tried several inexpensive but highly rated models on Amazon and found them to be what I would consider ‘toys’. When I found the Celestron 12x50 ED for far less than the comparable Nikon, i thought them worth a try. Celestron has a solid reputation For their telescopes and I was confident they know lenses. When I ordered, they we’re out of stock and expected in two weeks. To my surprise, they arrived from Amazon within a week. My first impression out of the box was that they felt like good quality equipment. I proceeded to the backyard with both the Celestron and my trusty Monarchs for a quick view and comparison. I was very pleased. The Celestron 12x50 ED’s were every bit as sharp and crisp as my more expensive monarchs (8x42), with good eye relief and smooth easy focus. Colors seemed slightly deeper through the Nikons (greens in particular), but it’s very close and could be due to the Celestron’s larger objective, where by a slightly brighter image may have drown some tint of deeper color to my perception, as later in the day I found that initial impression more difficult to verify. I found target acquisition slightly more difficult with the 12x magnification’s smaller field of view, but I expected that. If I could only have one pair, I’d stick with 8x for their versatility. On a tripod the 12x Celestron’s work beautifully for cellphone photography. I also plan to use these to stargaze via a tripod. I haven’t done that yet, but I have used them freehand. At 12x they are shakey as to be expected, but they do soak up some starlight. I expect them to provide some wonderful views when properly mounted. ... show more

Amazing binoculars! As an air traffic controller, we use Zeiss optics as a standard. Our go to model is the Victory HT 8x54 which offers amazing image stabilization. However, this Celestron model compared to the Zeiss Victory HT does also an incredible job and actually makes the image look much more natural and colorful. It's also more compact and super light. Magnification is a dream and the build quality is nice and sturdy. For the price tag, this is a great steal. Extremely happy with the purchase, highly recommended! ... show more

These have been my primary binos for a year plus of backcountry use. (Heavy brush bust, regularly in and out for use once a week or so for sessions over an hour often.) Their cost ensures I don't have to baby them and the image is crispy. The focus knob does not like sand, but they have been top notch in every other way. I recently purchased the Celestron Nature DX ED 12x50 and overall, I’m impressed with the quality of the optics and the build. The image is clear and sharp, and the rubberized finish provides a solid, non-slip grip. The actual weight of the binoculars with the strap is 896 grams. Pros: • Rubberized exterior prevents slipping and feels durable • Comes with lens covers that are easy to remove and replace • Adjustable strap included • Easy to adjust focus and diopter Cons: • Heavy for extended use — holding them for long periods during bird or wildlife observation becomes tiring • The twist-up eyecups don’t lock in place; they compress easily when pressed against the face • I was never able to get both eyes in perfect focus at the same time — and I’ve seen others mention the same issue • The packaging offers no protective foam or padding — if the delivery box is dropped, the impact goes straight to the binoculars This is a solid binocular for casual use and short observation periods, but for serious or long-duration use, especially handheld, consider the weight and eye relief issues. ... show more

Celestron's already award-winning Nature DX binocular series is now even better with the inclusion of ED objective lenses. Very hard to align the pupil distance due to roof prism. Overall build quality and lens quality are good. The biggest downside is the beaniness due to roof prism.
