  • GREAT!
An AMAZING tool set. For someone that “beats up” my tools. This is amazing, I love them! CAT us made an all around great product. Powerful too. All around a MUST HAVE.

  • Really really good!
These are just perfect. I just hope they continue to add to the collection. I will definitely recommend these.

  • Worth the price
Diesel Mechanic here, needed a new bit driver but wanted to try something that wasn't Milwaukee, it's not meant for anything heavy, and it's no replacement for a proper impact or stubby, I like it better than my Milwaukee bit driver. It's already black so it still looks nice when it's filthy, and it's less rubbery feeling than Milwaukee's plastic which I like. It comes in a solid plastic case that interlocks with other cases (I wish they would sell them individually) and just like the Caterpillar engines, built like a brick with function in mind. ... show more

  • Its not bad but paying for name?
First off, I did not know Cat made power tools. To me, why not just stick with what you know and what you do best? So many brands of cordless tools already. And this would be yet another battery you'd need. I personally have been paring down the different batteries I have. Course this is just me, only my opinion. First impressions, they seem to be well made enough tools. They have some bulk and heft to them, they feel heavy duty. Good fit and finish. I was also surprised how nice the case was. Not only is the case sturdy, but it "looks" like they lock into each other? I don't know for sure, I don't have other case to check that ability. If it's true, this listing is missing a selling point. Then again amazon is not always good at putting up detailed product listings. The inside tray is a light weight molded plastic tray. Can't say it will last long. But most brands have the same thing. As for performance. My son and I put the impact up against my Makita and Metabo impact drivers and while it drives just fine, the makita edged it out and the metabo edged it out slightly more. So the impact is not more powerful than those two brands. It's close, but I'll stay with what I have. The drill works as it should. Drills holes fine with a big 1/2" twist bit. It also ran a 2" hole saw without much trouble, about the same as any other drill. Of course the drill has a metal chuck, which some people really like. I prefer the rubberish/plastic chuck, but that is just me. Drill works good, but again, nothing outstanding. You probably wouldn't regret buying it, just don't expect more than others. This kit is the same type of kit most other brands use as a loss leader, used to get people into their brand and platform. So you usually, almost all the time, see kits like this from other, just as good brands, at a lower price. The price is not terrible, but this kit should be around 199. While you do get a better case than usually (better than a big), there is the only thing that is better in this set. Up to you if you think it's worth it. I am sure a part of the price is paying for the brand, and I am guessing many people will buy it just because of that. The charger is not a fast charger, if that matters to you. The batteries are on the smaller side, if that matters to you. Another thought, where can you get extra batteries? Do they bigger batteries? I don't see any here in the " Cat Store". Not like you can work into a local big box and pick one up. Something to think about. Overall, it is a good set, I just think it's priced too high at the current 264 (which is suppose to be marked down). Again, just my opinions. ... show more

  • Small issue with clutch
First impressions are important, and my first impression was “Dang! Why such a big box?”. Then I opened the box and saw these tools came in a nice hard case. Honestly, other tool manufacturers should take note; this is how you make a case for your power tools. For those that remember the first plastic boxes that use to ship with DeWalt tools many years ago, I would say that this case is slightly better than those. The case appears to be designed to interlock with other cases and has two handles, one on top of the lid and the other on the side. Presumably the one on top would be so you can carry it when it is interlocked with other tool cases. I am familiar with CAT equipment such as bulldozers but was unaware that they made any hand tools other than a few promotional items. Looking at the CAT website though, I can see they offer an assortment of power tools. They don’t have as many options as some long-established brands, but they certainly have the basics covered. The driver has 3 setting with the first being for maximum torque and the 3rd for speed. In first gear it can deliver a whopping 1900 in/lbs of force. That is more force than some of those impact drivers designed for sockets. I wanted to see how much it could deliver in third gear though so I took some 3” screws and a 12” thick block of hardwood. Even in 3rd gear this driver was able to completely bury the head of the screw half an inch into the hardwood. It didn’t even seem to notice, and I am convinced that it would have kept going if I had a longer bit. The driver is lacking the quick chuck that some tools have but that’s a very minor issue. As for the hammer drill, It delivered great performance and power. In high speed I used a half inch drill bit to drill a hole in that 12” thick piece of hardwood. The drill had no problems at all and I sank the drill into the wood all the way to the chuck. Speaking of the chuck, it is a ½” toolless chuck and both of those features are great. I did have a problem with the clutch though. Even though I was in the drill setting, it was behaving as if I was in first gear, which is to say that it was slipping. I was eventually able to fix it by turning the clutch all the way down to the gear 1 setting then back up to the drill setting. In hammer drill mode, it provides a solid hit several times a second. I do not have a masonry bit on hand, but I believe it will perform quite well for this application. Both the drill and the driver feature and comfortable handle covered in a textured rubber. I like the grip on these tools better than any others I own. For the record, I have owned or at the very least used, nearly every major tool brand. This includes craftsman, Ryobi, Rigid, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch, and even Hilti which let me tell you are some amazing tools. I would say these are somewhere inline with a DeWalt as far as performance goes. For the most part, I am pleased with the tools. They are comfortable and feel solid. They work well and have plenty of power. The case is nice also, but at the end of the day the question is, would I recommend it? Honestly, I am not sure I would. For only about $40 more you could get a DeWalt hammer drill impact driver combo kit right here on Amazon. Other than price, the main advantages this kit offers are a nice case and a more powerful impact driver. But that extra power isn’t enough to make a difference for most applications and by choosing DeWalt you are opening yourself up to a significantly large selection of compatible tools including FlexVolt tools which are amazing. Perhaps the biggest reason to go DeWalt would be that they have an extremely well-established reputation in the power tool market. There are some other ups and downs for both brands, but I think overall, DeWalt has the advantage. I will continue to use these tools and, if I have any more problems, will return to update my review. ... show more

Both the drill and driver are excellent tools. I am really pleased with their performance over my 'preferred' tool brand. Kind of want all CAT tools now...
