    • What a fantastic start to a series
I was captivated and enthralled with this book from the first chapter. Natalie is home in Chicago for her cousin's wedding and has not been home since she walked away from her fiance when she found out he was cheating on her. While everyone in her family want them to get back together she wants to just move on. I loved how much growth Natalie had in this book. She starts off fierce in her own right but still has an inner monolog that shows us her struggles. She goes from being quiet to having a voice again which makes her perfect for Jaxon. Jaxon who is the don of one of the biggest crime families in Chicago and the only women in his life is his daughter he is one and done with woman not wanting anything. Until he meets Natalie after she saves his daughter. I love how these two build on their relationship. He starts will wooing her and showing her how good he can be. This book is action packed and will keep you on the edge of your set. While these two fall for each other the world around them is blowing up. Giving her a true look into his world. This book ends on a cliff hanger and you just can't wait to move on to the next one. I can't get enough of Jaxon and Natalie. ... show more

This story had me ensnared from the very beginning and reading it in one sitting. I loved how I was able to witness Natalie’s growth and her finding her voice again. She was definitely fierce and I can’t wait to read the next story in the series. Jaxon was par for the course as far as literary Dons go, but I appreciated his ‘his touch her and die’ vibes. The man is the epitome of the morally grey character willing to burn the world down for those he loves and we love to see it! ... show more

I absolutely love this book from start to finish. Nicole Fanning is a new author to me and I’m so glad that I found her through Maxine’s Earbuds on Facebook. Nicole you are a phenomenal author and I cannot wait to read all of your books. The way you write just pulled me to enjoy the ride while sitting on the edge of my seat. This is one of the best slow burns I have read in a quite a while. Plot 5/5 ⭐️ Spice 2/5 🌶 Be aware of spoilers if you continue reading! Jaxon and Natalie are endgame! You can feel their chemistry off the pages. Natalie is from Miami, traveling to Chicago for her cousins wedding. She is absolutely dreading it because her ex fiancé is close with her family. She never told them about the cheating that lead to calling off the wedding. Jaxon is a billionaire hotelier, playboy, most dangerous mafia don in Chicago and single father. Jaxon had his six year old daughter Jessica with he previous girlfriend Rachel. Rachael died five years ago and he has sworn off any kind of relationship since then. The moment Natalie parks her car in the hotel parking garage is the moment her life changes moving forward. This is one of the most adventurous weeks of her life. It is amazing to see the development of Natalie’s courage, bravery, confidence, and self-appreciation. When Jaxon meets Natalie he is instantly captivated by her beauty, however very weary of her considering his job. She saves his daughter from being kidnapped and he immediately starts to interrogate her. She is obviously offended be this and it starts their angsty build up. Jaxon is a very persistent man. He chases after Natalie by buying out out all the roses in Chicago and seeking Natalie’s forgiveness. She eventually forgives him and so starts their week long romance. Natalie is very smart and starts to piece together that Jaxon is involved in some illegal activities but doesn’t know the mafia. After Natalie is almost killed Jaxon opens up to her about his dangerous lifestyle. He is preparing for her to walk away from him. However, she is more intrigued by him than anything. She decides to give their relationship a chance. That is until she is kidnapped by her ex fiancé and two other people. Jaxon is working on rescuing her when it’s revealed that her captors are his dead ex girlfriend, Rachel and her brother, Michael. Rachel tried to shoot Natalie but Jaxon stepped in front of the bullet for her. Natalie is overwhelmed by all the things that has happened. She discovers that Jaxon has a folder with everything about her and it send her over the edge. She ends up leaving him to go back to Miami.     • Ok so…
I have put off reading this series because I absolutely cannot read unfinished series. It has however been taunting me for months and months and I finally gave in at Nicole’s promise that the 3rd book leaves on an ok place. Ok so I hate reviewing books individually that are part of a series, I usually wait and review after I read the last. This book is an incredibly slow burn. The first 48% or more was a bit hard for me to stay focused on as it was page and page, chapter after chapter of mostly internal dialogue. And that is always hard for me to stay engaged with when it’s such massive amounts. We didn’t get to the real action and the real good stuff till the last 25-30% of this book and then bam it all happened. The spice level is a 1 outta 5 for me, and is very sparse and not till the last lil bit. The character growth in our FMC is good stuff to watch unfold. I hate weak FMC and she is getting stronger by the chapter, I can’t wait to see her grow into herself. Jaxon is the typical billionaire manwhore and single dad, mafia Don. His past relationship with his baby momma leaves me feeling yuck, like does he still love her or naw…cause the way he sounds one minute is she was just a convenient distraction but then he then seems to long for her. Super confused. Like I know he did her dirty and he has guilt but does he still want her? The supporting cast aka the Alpha crew, they are everything. I love them all so far and need more! Now, onto book 2… ... show more
