I bought this for a single task because doing so was cheaper than hiring a plumber. The first angle grinder I purchased from Amazon had too much vibration; also, the directions specified that it could only be used as a grinder, and I wanted the option of using it with a cutting wheel. This one, while a little more expensive, can both cut and grind. I used it with a diamond cutting wheel to enlarge the hole in my sink so that I could install a slightly oversized faucet, and it worked like a champ. There was a little vibration, but not enough for me to question the tool’s useability. Again, I won’t be giving this tool a lot of heavy use, but from my limited experience, I would recommend it. ... show more

    • Solid and well priced angle grinder

I burned up my last corded 4 1/2” angle grinder doing a job and got this one to replace it. The body is a touch slimmer and feels solid in my hand. The on/off switch can be locked in the on position, so you don’t have to hold it on all the time while in use. The switch was designed for right handed individuals, since it’s located on the left side. Moving it to the top would make it easier for lefties. There’s a yellow vent cover on either side of the body that can be removed and cleaned. I’m not a technical music person, but the pitch of the motor seems a little louder or higher pitched than some other angle grinders. The side handle is large and allows for a good grip. I also really like handles that allow the spanner wrench to slide into them. The spanner is where you need it at all times, as long as you remember to put it back in the handle. The 10 foot cord is also a bonus. The guard doesn’t have any adjustment screws for tensioning. It’s also VERY tight and was hard to get on and required a lot of thumb muscle to get to close. I guess the good thing is that once you get it on, it’s staying on. There’s only the 4 main parts in the box (plus instructions): the grinder, handle, spanner, and guard. There’s no free or extra grinding wheels that add to the price of the item anyway, so I’m glad about that. I have a lot of grinding discs and I really don’t need more cheap ones.     • Lots of Power in a Lighter Weight Tool
This review is for the CAT DX37U Corded Angle Grinder. Overall: 5 Stars I have a cordless angle grinder and I like the ability to 'cut the cord' for light grinding or cutoff jobs, but for the heavier or larger jobs I needed something that wouldn't go through my batteries so quickly. This CAT angle grinder is perfect in that role. I like that the second handle can be used on either side since I'm left handed. The grinder has a lot of power that is delivered almost instantaneously when the trigger is pressed. I do wish that the trigger was better placed, though even using this grinder left handed is fairly easy. A also like that it hides the wrench required to change cutting blades or grinding wheels. The two removable dust shields on the intakes is something I've not seen before. I have no idea how well or poorly they perform their intended function, time will tell. The cord is ten foot long and is a heavier gauge and the weight is light enough to be able to use the grinder for longer periods of time. Bottom Line: This is going to be a great addition to my tool kit. ... show more

    • Cut-off Guard not available from CAT
It's a nice tool for grinding, feels good in your hand. I contacted CAT to get a cut-off guard, was told that they're not available from CAT. How can the tool be advertised, and safety approved as both a grinding and a cut-off tool, if CAT does not offer an OEM guard for cut-off operations?

For the price you get a very solid angle grinder. As soon as I unboxed it I could tell that it was well made and should last a while. It just feels solid in your hands and not cheap like some other tools I have used in the past. The screw in handle can be installed on either side but the power button is awkward if you try to hold the base in your left hand. The power can be locked in place though so once you get it going you can use it with your left hand without issue. Like the other reviews have mentioned, the guard is impressively hard to fully clamp in place. The first time I installed and adjusted it I thought it was jammed or installed wrong. With enough pressure the clamp does close though and the guard is not going anywhere. Very happy with this purchase, hoping this lasts as long as I think it will. ... show more

I bought this to replace the one I had before. My previous grinder was $20 from Walmart and the difference between the two is dramatic. First, this has so much more power. Secondly, and probably most important to me, the vibration is significantly lower on this Cat grinder. I can actually use it for extended periods of time without my hands and forearms going numb. The handle is thick and grips well. It's standard threading so all of my existing grinding pads fit without an adapter. I'm very satisfied with the quality of this Cat grinder. ... show more

I tried this out cutting a piece of 1/8" steel plate with a cut-off blade and it performed well and didn't get bogged down even when I pressed it. I really like that the wrench has a home in the handle of the grinder (at first I thought that they had forgotten to include a wrench). That is really handy so I don't have to go looking for the wrench every time I want to use the grinder and end up making do with one that does not actually fit like it is supposed to. ... show more
