This is a very good starter kit for knives. It comes with two accessories, a pair of utility shears, and a hone. These are listed as a high carbon stainless steel, that means these are a harder stainless that keeps its' edge better, but that also means when it comes to sharpening you will need a bit more time. You can see some machining on these knives as well, which looks like a belt was used in one direction while cleaning up the blades, but the pattern is so universally used that it looks like it is meant to be that way. The blades came in sharper than I am used to using, and I was surprised in how little weight they have. These are all well balanced blades, and because of the high carbon content they were able to make these blades thinner without sacrificing durability which also helps with making uniform cuts and is the reason why they are thinner. For some context, I got some Damascus blades a while back, and despite being a Japanese Damascus, the Chinese company that made them, made them way too thick and that made them unusable and I defaulted back to my German stainless steel blades. It was a lost opportunity for that Chinese company as they made them to the standard thickness of a softer stainless steel and lost out on how a thin blade could do a better job. I was able to verify that those were proper Japanese Damascus with a hardness test and a chip test showing it was indeed the harder stainless it claimed to be. On the other hand, you have this CAROTE brand high carbon stainless steel, and they are not making the mistakes made by the Chinese brand using Japanese Damascus. These are what they need to be, these are not thick, they are not heavy, they are well balanced around your guiding fingers knuckle, which is where it is most comfortable for me. This means there is less fatigue in using the blades and cutting with them is a breeze. They also properly sharpened them, so beware when you are initially inspecting them, but they do come packaged with plastic tips and cardboard covers meaning they are safely stowed away until you unpackage them Now the next part I am not sure how I should approach it. It is the stand/base for these knives. It is very basic, on the cheap side of construction, but 100% what it needs to be here. I do wish it had softer feet for better grip, and I do wish it had a less rough cut design, but it still looks better than my older aged terribly one I had before. I do wish it came with magnets on the back side of the block for additional knives I would want to stow back there. I will be drilling in some small holes for some magnets to be installed later though. Installing some neodymium magnets and seal with epoxy that is. Overall, for performance and price, I saw nothing better than these knives. I was really surprised. They were on sale for roughly $45 when I wrote this, and the normal price was around $70 as well and either price is amazing. I do legitimately wonder who sources the high carbon stainless steel though as I saw nothing that hinted at that.

Our current knife set is getting old and I was looking for a new one. When I came across this product, I ordered it right away. I like the black block and knives and they fit well in my kitchen. They are very sharp and the scissors just made me realize how dull the pair I was using is 😊 The knife set includes the most common kitchen knives, 8" chef knife, 8" bread knife, 7" santoku knife, 5" utility knife, 3.5"paring knife, as well as a six-piece steak knife set, kitchen shears, sharpening steel, 14-slot hardwood storage block with nonslip feet. This is a great set of knives that includes 3 big knives, scissors, sharpener, 2 small paring knives and 6 steak knives with a knife block. The blade on the largest knife is thicker in regards to the tang than a simiilar knife i have. The handles are smooth and a perfect fit for my medium sized hands. This set was listed at $89 when I ordered them. They are on sale for $59 as of November 11. I'd say they are a great set for the price listed today. They're comparable to the Cuisinart sets you'd find at Ross or Marshalls. Still a great set of medium quality knives.

Our old knife block was falling apart, as were the knives in it, so I decided to give this a try. The knives themselves are very good, and the block has everything we need for our regular cooking tasks. And in general it looks great on our counter. I say "in general", because that word "Carote" is just - so obvious on the block. It irritates the heck out of me. I mean - it's not really a WORD. And even if it were a known brand, I don't like having brand names all over everything in my house. The block would be much classier without it. At any rate, the knives are good and I have a sharpener that will keep them in shape over the coming years.
