  • Good railroad boot- Comfortable and durable. Looks good too.
Size: 14 Color: Dark Brown
Hands down the best loggers I have had, and I have had a lot in my railroading career. I was a diehard Danner man until about 10 years ago until they changed fabrics in the lining and started making my feet break out (from my understanding this is when ABC Mart from China purchased Lacrosse). I had been struggling to find a good replacement since then, trying Whites, Georgia, Ariat, Chippewa, and Thorogood. None of these pleased me, and I thought I would have to tolerate a subpar boot the rest of my career. Then I tried the Carolina Cardinal --Game Changer-- In the past, if I got a 1/2 year out of boots I was pleased, even the really expensive boots. These have held up to 10k+ daily steps of walking on track ballast, creosote ties, and kicking track bolts. The lining and insoles have also held up to being put on my Peet dryer every night. I've had these for roughly 8 months, and I am still happy. I think I might be able to get a full year out of them. Pros: - These things are built. I mean built. - Comfortable, easy to break in. Would say after 3-4 days they felt right. - I always focus on 'training the tongue' when I get a new pair of boots, these trained easily. (iykyk what I mean with lace-ups) - Good support for my Plantar Fasciitis and ankles. - High logger heel, helps when you need some leverage. - Looks good, I get compliments all the time even after months of wear - Not really expensive, but not cheap either. If you do the math with the useful life compared to others, they are definitely worth it the little $ extra. Neutral: Takes a few applications to get the leather right. The leather is very thirsty out of the box, but after they are treated it's minimal upkeep. (I have tried almost everything out there for boot oil and treatment. The best thing I have found to use is AVON Skin So Soft. Something about it just works great. Thank me later. ) Cons: - You will need a boot brush for your doorway, these track heavily (as most loggers do). - A little on the heavier side, but with the hugging tight fit it isn't that noticeable. The only thing that really concerns me about these boots is I am on the fence if I need to buy up a few pairs for the future in case they change them up or quit making them. They are really that good fellas. If you're listening Carolina- don't change anything, leave perfect alone. ... show more

  • A very well built and comfortable boot...and good looking as well!
Size: 11.5 Color: Dark Brown
After 20 years of wearing the same brand of boots I decided to try something new because the quality of the brand I had used began to disappoint me. I had never bought the Carolina brand and was not sure what to expect. I am beyond pleased with these boots! The fit and comfort right out of the box is very impressive! The fit is perfect and true to size and I didn't feel there was any break-in time needed at all. One of the issues I had with my old brand was that they were downright scary on packed snow and ice. No boot without cleats or spikes will be flawless on ice, but these are very impressive and inspire quite a bit of confidence. I like to have two pair and alternate every day. I am going to order a second pair today so I can do that. If you wear boots every day, I feel more than confident in recommending these. ... show more

  • Out of the Box - 1st impression (will update as months go on)
Size: 10 Wide Color: Dark Brown
1st ill start with, my job is factory work, but takes place in a hot environment (Heat-treat). thats where a fast majority of the hours will be put on. oily surfaces, hot, plenty of sharp metal (abrasion), and just how cool they keep my feet. i do plenty of property work as well during the summer months. they look and feel awesome, comfortable, not a weird walking angle. i will say the leather doesn't feel real compared to how my red wing logger boots feel new. get the wides, theres so much extra room side to side. i feel this will help keep my feet from sweating.. only time will tell. I will state the old set of Carolinas (currently being worn) don't hold up like red wings. The red wings i easily get 2 years. Carolinas last like a year before they crack everywhere. But they are far more comfortable out of the box. Carolinas & red wings in the picture. (New on top, old on bottom). ... show more

  • Excellent boot for most uses
Size: 11.5 Wide Color: Dark Brown
These boots were wearable right out of the box, but are even better after a week; I wouldn't recommend wearing for a full work day until after they are broken in a bit. Size runs accurately, but if you are "between sizes", go with the larger. If you think you might need a wide, get the wide. The height of the heel - which is one of the reasons I got these - tends to force your foot all the way into the toe box and also puts additional pressure on the balls of your feet, so I recommend a good pair of cushioned boot socks. Making sure that they are laced tightly reduces this. If you're the kind that only wants to lace up to the instep and leave the top open, I would not recommend these. These are perfect for field work (construction sites, clearing underbrush, etc.) and the heels are perfect for work on a ladder, but if I'm working in a shop or some other hard surface all day, these would not be my first choice: I would go with something with a lower heel. I tried them riding and they're OK - especially when you have to put your feet down or riding on the pegs, but I prefer a narrower more flexible toe for shifting - although I'd have no problem wearing them to a worksite. They are solidly made, and I expect to get several years of wear out of them. I've slogged through 2 or 3 inches of mud and standing water and my feet stayed dry. The way they are made I "should" be able to go through 4-6 inches and stay dry, but I really don't see a need to try that out. Overall, if you do construction or field work I could not recommend these highly enough. For shop work, maybe not as much, but that may change after a few more weeks of breaking in. If you are looking strictly for a riding boot, I would look elsewhere. ... show more
