  • Solid outdoor gate, great for children
Assuming this product hasn't changed in the last year, I am a big fan. I've had one installed outside in the Pacific Northwest for over a year. It gets rained on often and has only the slightest bit of oxidation on a spot on the underside of the gate where where water tends to sit the most. Otherwise it looks practically new. The latch mechanism is very simple in design and construction, but very effective. It even confuses my wife sometimes. You have to precisely push both small latches down completely or either one will catch on the gate and prevent it from lifting out. It's not easy to open if you are, say, trying to carry armfuls of stuff. However, a young child is extremely unlikely to figure it out, since you have to precisely unlatch and lift simultaneously before pushing it open. The fit was perfect for my deck entrance. It feels very solid. It's pretty enough. It's just a nice gate overall. My only complaint is that I wanted a second one recently and the price has gone up significantly from my first purchase. I still feel like the increased price is worth it, though. ... show more

  • It's a great gate!
After looking at several deck gates and checking reviews, I chose this one and I am very happy with my choice. This gate, with its slightly curved bottom, allows clearance for molding trim around deck posts. It was quite easy to install as the instructions and You Tube video were excellent! Even the latch, which I was doubious about after reading some of the reviews, proved to be easy to manage, even for old fingers like mine. The quality is great in both the main gate and extension.....just be sure to order the "outdoor gate" if using outside, as it comes with weather resistant hardware. Unfortunately, they do not offer this option with the extension and you must buy additional hardware either from the company, hardware store, or Amazon. That is my only complaint. ... show more

  • Would be 4 star but...OUTDOOR RATED GATES SHOULD NOT RUST!
The gate is rated for indoor/outdoor use. The black powder coated gate itself seems to be holding up quite well. The metal hinge rod is already leaving an orange rust coating at the top where the pin meets the frame piece after only 1 week of installation. Unfortunately, it is quite noticeable and takes away from the look of the rest of my new deck. I'm quite disappointed, not sure if it is a faulty part unique to mine, but I doubt it. If this was not rusting, I'd give it a solid 4 stars overall but instead it is getting a 1 star. It is easy to assemble, moderately sturdy, and minus that one issue, an all around good outdoor gate. ... show more

  • Has held up great to all weather
I bought this gate a few months ago when we moved to a new house on a busy main road. I wanted something to contain my dogs to the deck in case they darted out the door to prevent them from running off into the road. It has been through rain, snow, hail, and heat (we get all four seasons in one month here in Kentucky) and it still looks brand new. It functions well, looks great, and stays latched. It's a little difficult to open if you have your hands full sometimes, but I much prefer the added security of it staying closed that having it open easier. ... show more

  • Don’t be dumb like me
For what the gate is, it’s great, light weight and a gate. Now, don’t be like me. First of all, I saw all the pictures and thought hey that throughway looks just like mine. Great, it’ll fit. Except my throughway is apparently not a standard size. I ended up needing the extension. Thank goodness they have one. Secondly, don’t separate the two parts of the gate during unboxing. Otherwise you WILL have to research how to put them back together. It’s like one of those brain puzzles where you try everything but the actual solution. Then you go “ohhhhhhh!!” They have easy to find videos on the topic, so score. Thirdly there’s a bracket with all sorts of stickers and instructions in all caps and bold saying “THIS END UP.” I followed the instructions to a T and it didn’t work. That’s because I had the GATE upside down. I don’t think the instructions specify, but a normal person might reference the pictures for that sort of thing. Here’s where I wish I would have done more research and the point I learned that there are some things about gates that I have taken for granted in my lifetime. 1. I wish there were a spring to guide the gate back to the latch. 2. To open, you have to pinch latch downward and lift gate upward. Not a one handed operation. But will be good for young kids and pets who can’t figure it. 3. Even if it had a spring, it would not go back in the latch automatically as you have to lift the gate for that. I actually like this feature because you won’t mindlessly swing the gate back and assume it latched itself. You have to be deliberate about closing it. It’s less likely for a “gate didn’t catch” incident. But inconvenient for high traffic or single handed maneuvering. For what it is, it’s good. I will keep it. I should have done a little more research for my personal needs but it does what I need it to do. And I’ll be fine. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed
I have had three other previous gates for my front porch and this one is so awesome I wish I had bought it first. I initially installed it in a rush so it wasn't well aligned and I needed to fix that. Once I took the time and got it properly situated, it opens and closes with ease and no issues. I decided not to use the tightening screws for the part where the two sections slide together and have found that it has no effect on the gate's ease of use, but also allows me to collapse the gate somewhat if needed. I wish it was slightly more heavy duty for the upcoming winter, but overall, this was money well spent and a huge gate headache finally solved. ... show more

  • Works perfect
I needed a gate to keep my 2 dogs and 3 cats on the deck. It works perfect and matches the rest of the deck. The Trex Deck contractor was going to install a gate for around $500. This gate cost me $79 and was easy to install. It has a unique safety latch in case you have small children.
