  • Tricky to double flare Nickle Copper brake lines!
Style: 3/16 in. Double Flaring Tool Pattern Name: Flaring Tool
The media could not be loaded. This Capri Tools CP21110-316 Double Flaring Tool works great when making SAE double inverted flares on Steel lines but has an issue double flaring NiCopp (Nickle-10%/Copper-90%) 3/16" tubing/lines. I spent 6ft of NiCopp trying to perfect the flares with this tool doing 3" straps at a time before I cut my actual Jeep lines. The instructions work for Steel but don't work for NiCopp. I'm not the only one with this problem. What I noticed is that putting the line flush against the stopper bolt like instructions state makes the punch die twist the flare causing deformities that look like it's lopsided on one part of the side of flare. That's not acceptable in my book. Now it is soft NiCopp and may crush into place if tightened several times in the hose/ABS fitting/connection. But I'd rather make an acceptable flare that's uniform all the way around. And I did, after days of trial and error I found backing off the NiCopp tubing about 2-2.5mm from the stopper bolt then tightening down until there was great resistance on 10mm bolts, created almost perfect flares that are more than acceptable in your vehicle. I included a picture with the gap, it's about the same size as the line marker on see through hold on the tool.. so make sure its gapped if you are using this tool for Nickle Copper brake lines to make SAE Double Flares. One picture shows the perfect Flare, and the video shows the wonky flares I got while following instructions. Tips: • Use punch grease and don't just use a tiny bit on tip of die, get a little on whole mating area. • I tightened until it bottomed and was flush with Tool on both dies. I do hear some Tools require stopping once there is strong resistance when using NiCopp. • clean off dies before every use so you don't get dirty and obstructions between punch and line. • you must debur and chamfer line before Flaring. Use a countersink to debur the inside rim of tubing of all sharp points. Then use a fine file to flaten the end of all lips and sharp points them chamfer outside, you are only trying to remove sharp areas, make it smooth. • when you chamfer & file and debur your line you want to hold it down so gravity keeps shavings out of the line. You don't want shaving in high pressure lines that have 1000-2000psi Great tool, well made definitely purchase, you can get high quality flares of nearly all kinds of alloys. This problem is not restricted to this Capri Tools CP21110-316 Double Flaring Tool, it also happens on the Titan 51535, the Lisle and the Eastwood hand Flaring tools, they are all built the same exact way. It's all to do with the type of metal and its strength and possibly a slight difference in quality control. There are overwhelming good reviews of this Tool of all brands on Amazon, Ebay, Home Depot, Lowes, and other sites. I'm giving it 4 stars because it is not working following directions but it is a great tool. ... show more

  • Expensive but worth it
Style: 3/16 in. Dual Head Flaring Tool Pattern Name: Flaring Tool
This tool is so easy to use and bubble flared my mercedes steel brake line on the car perfectly. Allowing me to get back on the road without replacing the whole line. I tried a cheap tool and it ended up being a waste of time. The only bad thing i can say this is the price but it is worth it. I highly recommend. ... show more

  • Small for on-car work, and simple instructions.
Style: 3/16 in. Double Flaring Tool Pattern Name: Flaring Tool
I loved the small design of this brake flaring tool, and the perceived quality. The simple instructions are right on the back of the product packaging, which I'll keep for any additional future work. (With this tool I made single / bubble flairs for all brake lines on my car. I initially thought I had bought the wrong tool, as the product description says it can make double flares. But the instructions explain that by performing just Operation 1 (OP1), w/ the included special grease, you have a single, bubble flare. The special grease comes in a little, plastic dish. I tried to keep all parts in a clean box, in the shade, so the grease wouldn't possibly melt in the Summer heat, and I'd keep debris out of my brake lines. The hardest part of the job was when I forgot to put on a fitting, and after cutting off the flare it was difficult to slide the fitting further down the brake line, past a small bend. ... show more

  • Works great even on Stainless
Style: 3/16 in. Double Flaring Tool Pattern Name: Flaring Tool
I broke another two tools before finding this one. Way better quality and great grip on the tubing as you compress the material. Made great looking flares which I struggled with using other tools. Worth the purchase. Use the grease if going with a harder material like SS.

  • Used on Stainless Steel Lines
Style: 3/16 in. Double Flaring Tool Pattern Name: Flaring Tool
Worked like a charm on stainless steel brake lines. I only had a few double flares to make and they came out perfectly. I understand that stainless may wear this tool out quickly, but I did not want to spend $250 for a seldom used tool. Be sure to watch a YouTube video that demonstrates how to use this tool On stainless lines. In addition to the video, and because I was working beneath the car, I used a long handled adjustable wrench to hold the body of the device instead of the short handle that is provided. ... show more

  • Great tool

Cheap tools will not work with SS brake lines, the Capri flaring tool works great at a reasonable price.

  • Good tool when figure. Out how to use it.
Style: 3/16 in. Double Flaring Tool Pattern Name: Flaring Tool
Steel 3/16 pipe. Is a challenge. Here is what I came up with. 1. Dissemble the base of the tool. 2. Spray it with brakekleen 3. Apply a very mall dose of Spray adhesive into the 3/16 channels. Just for a little added friction. 4. the adhesive will wash out with brakekleen and a soft cloth after and before each subsequent application. Do not use any abrasives in the 3/16 tube channel. Friction is your friend here. 5. The reason you don’t get the desired bubble or double flange is the 3/16 tube backs out of the channel. Steps 2 & 3 will help with this problem. 6. You can always go back and repeat steps 2 & 3 as necessary with the same pipe. Just hold It in place. 7. If you have a crooked flare that’s your problem. The unit cannot straighten the pipe in the one inch travel in the pipe channel. If it’s off line going in it will be offline coming out. 8. Make sure all the bolts are tightened down as hard as you can. Otherwise the pipe will back out and you wont get your flare right. 9 when working inside you car try to maximize the opportunity to get the unit stabilized against the wheel well or other chassis part for leverage to tighten the bolts. Otherwise its really hard to lock them down with the pressure needed to secure the pipe and bottom out the dye. I hope this helps you. Good luck, ... show more
