  • Nice vice
Size: 4"
This is packaged very, very well. It has 4” jaws that aligned easily with minor space from one edge to the other. Very accurate spacing, great looking vice. Since it is precision first and medium duty this will accomplish many tasks with ease. It is smooth cranking in both directions. It has a 5” + jaw opening so it compensates well with the 4” jaw. This works well in a home setting. Personally dont need the large heavy vise for industrial Work although I feel like this is tough strong and can handle more than I give it credit for. Not using it for welding, commercial use, or industrial purposes. This vise feels like it could be used for machining. It tightens and rotates with very little effort. A slight twist of the clamp and its tight or loosen to pivot. No hang-ups, no fighting the vise. Precise tools make a difference in frustration levels and this excels in every way. There is none with this vise. Great purchase! Would buy it again. ... show more

  • Thought I was getting a big upgrade. Not so fast.
Size: 6"
The media could not be loaded. When I moved into a new house, I decided to leave my 15 year old Harbor Freight vise in the old house and build out my new garage shop with a couple of better tools. I had always thought a nice vise was one of those things that I wanted to invest in, so I thought I'd spend a bit more on better quality. I chose the Capri 6" forged bench vise, because of its forged steel construction, generous opening, 360 degree rotation, removable standard and pipe jaws, and perceived quality (so many glowing reviews!). Its price was also more than nearly any other vise on Amazon by a wide margin, so I believed I was purposely spending a bit more to get something better. Apparently I got a different vise than the one that everyone is gushing about. There is very little that I ended up liking about this vise. My only reason for not returning it right away was that I had already drilled holes in my brand new workbench. And I was willing to do some adjustment and break-in. But as I was writing this review, my star rating kept going down, and now I've convinced myself to return this thing while I can. Now, I'm not some vise snob. When I say I'm disappointed, I'm not comparing it to a high dollar Wilton. What's good: 1: Very large jaw opening. There is nothing that I would want to clamp in here that this couldn't fit. 2: Good looking vise. Appears to be well constructed without any voids in the forging. Not overly bulky. 3: Jaws are well aligned. And that's about it. Here is the rest of my impressions of this vise: 1: Clamping force is poor. I tried flattening out the kink in a pegboard hook so it would work better in a thin steel pegboard, and I struggled to exert enough force to do this. Tried pressing the legs of a 16 ga L-bracket together. Couldn't fully press the legs of the L together. Probably a result of the thin short handle, and mostly the rough action discussed below. This was after attempting all of the steps to clean, lube, and adjust. 2: Base fit-up is sloppy. When you unclamp the base clamps and rotate the vise, it can wallow around side to side nearly an eighth of an inch. There isn't any sort of center pivot bolt that connects the base to the vise body, and the tolerances between the recess in the vise and protruding rim in the base is super loose. The only thing keeping it centered is you centering it by eyeball after you get it where you want it to go, and then cranking down the clamps. The base has paint all over the machined surface, and even has some red paint showing through in one spot (leftover Yost base?) 3: Base rotation clamp mechanism is cheap. Took the vise off the base, and there is just a rudimentary flat bar sitting inside the base (which is just an open ring) that sort of wedges against the base with friction. No "mechanism" to speak of. Just looks like what I might quickly hack together in a hurry. The ends of this bar also scrape against the rough inner casting of the base and sometimes jam the rotation. Time will tell if this can stand up to slipping once I get something big in the vise jaws and apply some torque to it. My previous vise had a machined interface between the vise and base that fit quite well and rotated smoothly, and toothed locking mechanism, so you could easily and positively lock the vise in position with a quick quarter turn of the clamp handles. 4: Short and thin handle. This thing is not very long, and very small in diameter. So, the amount of torque that you can apply is limited by both the length, and because the thin diameter puts more pressure on your fingers. 5: Handle/main screw rotation is not smooth, in sound or feel (loaded or unloaded). Disassembled the vise and cleaned everything, then lubricated and reassembled, and ran the vise in and out a bunch of times. Adjusted the gibs. Tried different lubricants. Made sure the collar holding the screw into the sliding jaw wasn't too tight. A little better, but nothing like what I know vises should feel like. Noticed no sort of thrust washer between the vise screw and the sliding jaw so when clamping down, all friction will be between the the thin ring of the back face of the handle hub and the raw face of the sliding jaw. Maybe this is normal, but seems odd for a wear point. 6: Paint on the lower sliding surface, rough machining. When I took the vise apart, I could see paint on the surface that the sliding jaw slides on. Managed to clean off most of that. The machining was pretty coarse as well. 7: Jaw surfaces are very short vertically. Less surface area to spread out the clamping force when I want to grab thinner items. The jaws look like they're good quality though. Not a deal breaker, but just one more thing. So yeah. Time to resume the search and patch some holes in the workbench! ... show more

  • Great vise.
Size: 4"
This is the best vise I have used. It’s very smooth and there is almost no play in any direction. Costs more than some other buses, but worth every penny, especially when you consider that it has a lifetime warranty.

  • Great Tool!
Size: 4"
I am very please with this unit. I think it's the best for the money out there. I will highly recommend it!

  • Great vise for the money!
Size: 4"
This is a great vise for the money. I got the CP10515 (4" wide jaw) version of this vise and it seems to have a lot of qualities that you see in more expensive vises. The dual hold-down bolts is a nice touch with a ~3/16" thick internal brace. The spindle seems more than sufficient for a vise this size and the spindle nut is probably 5 or 6 threads deep providing good support for the clamping force. The forged steel construction seems plenty sturdy, the jaws are all servicable, and the lifetime warranty is a nice touch. My only complaint is I wish the handle didn't use rubber grommets to secure itself to the spindle. It feels kind of cheap and lazy, but it's far from a deal breaker as I'm sure this contributes to additional and easier servicabilitybas it would be much easier to remove in the event that the handle bent or broke. Previous reviews complained about the spindle and the contact surfaces of the outer jaw being dry when shipped, mine was pre-greased either from the factory or from the seller, but if it's dry when received then be sure to grease these components. ... show more

  • Strong and smooth
Size: 4"
Ordered the 4" version to save some bench room, and glad I did. This replaced a 35 yr old cheap 4" vise, so I already knew 4" would accommodate most all of what I needed. If the 6" was a bit less, I might have upgraded sizes, but this 4" does open a good inch wider than my old one, and is deeper from jaws to the top of the slide, and so is a good fit to my needs (general small home shop stuff, and automotive repair). The vise itself is quite nice. It locks down on whatever is in the jaws very firmly. Finish is faultless and attractive. The jaw moves precisely and the jaws align perfectly. As it is forged steel, I expect it to outlive me. No rough edges, no casting voids, nicely machined surfaces - well worth the extra bucks over the cast iron vise-like objects out there. Base locks up well and was easy to mount. Do use the base itself to layout the mounting holes in the bench - it is more accurate that way than using the template. Fully satisfied - thank you Capri for NOT marketing junk! ... show more

  • Awesome Vise!
Size: 6"
So sturdy and well built and just beautiful to look at too. Much better than other vises I tried. Closes perfectly evenly and no play. The ultra wide opening is going to come in handy. Unlike Wilton 550 and yost the swivel base is easy to unlock and turn. To me 329 is a lot of money for a vise, but I must admit I am impressed. ... show more
