I purchased this set at the tail-end of the pandemic because I wanted to expand my available options for working out at home. The price was fair at about $1.66 per lb., including the vertical A-frame rack, and not including tax. I purchased them on Prime Day which gave me significant discount in comparison to the normal price at the time. Keep in mind though, these dumbbells used to be priced at around $1 per pound pre-pandemic. The order was shipped in four separate boxes which all barely made it to my doorstep. One box was the vertical rack, one was the pair of 25lb dumbbells, one was the pair of 20lb dumbbells, and finally the last box had the pairs of 15lb, 10lb, and 5lb dumbbells inside. The boxes which had the dumbbells inside were lined with some sort of plastic and covered by a second box, which was stapled with thick metal staples to the inside box, and then the boxes were wrapped on all sides by packing tape. All of the boxes were somewhat opened upon arrival due to the nature of cardboard, and how heavy the contents were inside. As other people have noted, the rubber smell is very, very strong, noxious even. I wiped all of the dumbbells down with soapy water twice and isopropyl alcohol twice as well. They still strongly smell like rubber, but the smell is much more bearable for now. I plan to put them outside in the sun to help to remove the remainder of the rubber smell, but it’s been cold and rainy the past week, so I have no idea if putting them out in the sun will help to remove any more of the rubber smell at this time. Unfortunately, the box containing the 15lb, 10lb, and 5lb dumbbells took quite a beating. As a result, the three sets of dumbbells inside were all damaged in one way or another. There is a gash in one of the 5lb dumbbells, while one of the 10lb dumbbells has some metal shards sticking out that could easily cut your palm. One of the 15lb dumbbells was smashed so hard that the rubber inside was misshapen to the point that the contents will eventually break open over time. In the past I’ve had no problems returning anything back to Amazon, but for that particular order it’s been quite the struggle. Contacting Amazon wasn’t a difficult process, but they are telling me that I need to return the whole order as a single unit in order to get a refund or replacement. There is no way that I can realistically pack 170lbs worth of dumbbells, and a rack, into a single box for shipping without it breaking open, never mind being able to actually lift it and carry it to my doorstep. I would have to build and pack them into a wooden crate which would cost more to construct than these weights are worth. Contacting CAP has been fruitless as well as they never answer their phone, or return any phone calls. Realistically, these dumbbells are the type of things you need to buy in person in order to ensure that they are not damaged. Truth be told, the quality of these is good except for the noxious rubber smell, but if they arrive damaged, in any way, you are going to have to return the whole order, or eat the cost for replacements, EVEN IF you ordered them directly from Amazon.     • The rubber smell may stink up your whole house, but the weights are good
Other reviews that have stated that these dumbbells stink up your whole house might not be exaggerating. My weight room is on the second floor of my house. It has been about 10 days since I opened the package and assembled the rack. For the first several days, I could smell the strong chemically rubber smell even downstairs. I cleaned all the weights out of the box with dish soap and warm water and this did nothing to reduce the rubber smell, though it did help with removing the manufacturing oils. After about 7 days, I could no longer smell the rubber on the first floor, though it still smells strongly on the entire second floor. I have taken to putting baking soda near the weights in attempt to absorb some of the smell. I am hoping the smell fully dissipates with more time. Besides the strong smell, these weights are very nice and the rack is sturdy. The rack assembly instructions are not 100% clear though. They say you need a wrench, but don't specify for exactly what. You need the wrench clamped over the nuts to be able to use the Allen wrench to screw in the bolts. Not a big deal and easy to figure out for most, but I'm sure some people would be thrown off. The weights feel good to use when working out, and there is sufficient space for picking up and putting the weights back on the rack. If your weight rack is resting on hardwood flooring, furniture pads or a mat underneath are recommended because the rack is steel and has no padding on the bottom. ... show more

I bought the red one. It looks good, but smells bad. Both the rack and dumbbells have strong bad smell. Hm
