Like others have said this is a very large block and even though I knew what the dimensions were you don’t realize it until you put it inside your cooler. Initially I wanted to buy two but only one is going to be needed due to the size. For half the cost of some of the more expensive ones out there and 1/3 larger this is the best way to go. I use these to pre chill my 75qt and 125qt coolers before use in a food truck. I keep these in a deep freeze and pop them into the coolers overnight to lower the temp inside. By 10am the next day they are still frozen solid and the coolers are ready to rock for a day of service. By the time I roll back into the kitchen at night, they're ready to pre-chill the coolers again. Saves me $$$ on ice. ... show more

Bought this and another brand same time, this stays Frozen in my yeti for couple /few days , EXCELLENT!! Other won't stay frozen 4 hours , returning other buying another igloo.

These are GOOD quality freeze blocks, whatever you want to call them. Igloo is a decent brand, and I haven't had any trouble with their stuff for the most part. These are well made, filled up just enough to allow for proper thermal related volumetric changes, and I think they'll last a long time in a decently insulated space. 5/5 product just mind the sizing. However, these seems to be conservatively measured. I had to return them (I bought two) because they were just a hair above the advertised dimensions. I couldn't get them in my new cooler! (I picked up a soft walled cooler on Amazon with a rigid insert, it's a middle sized cooler) I wanted to have one at each end, standing up so I could keep them in place with the items in the cooler, or maybe even gently wedge them into position, but they were larger by several millimeters from advertised. If you have a big cooler, I doubt you'll have any problems. ... show more

    • HOW TO Fix the bulge

I bought four medium size ice packs and saw bulges form upon initial freezing. My vague impression is the freezing process, which starts on the outside and gradually advances into the interior, causes the fluid to gush in some direction, forming a bulge. This can seemingly be alleviated by thawing the bulge away with hot water and immediately refreezing. 1. Lay the pack flat, not upright, in the freezer. This will cause the initial bulge to form somewhere on the flat surface facing upward, hopefully without breaking through the plastic shell. 2. Thaw the outer layer by submerging the pack in hot water, or running a drizzle of hot water over the pack esp. where the bulge is. After a few minutes, the bulge should be diminished. 3. Refreeze the pack before the entire unit is thawed — the frozen core prevents another bulge from forming. ... show more

    • Freeze in wierd shapes, and don't last

When I first bought my Igloo MaxCold cooler, I was really impressed with how the ice goes in the slots at the side. It wasn't long before I realized that the blocks freeze with huge bulges in them and often won't fit in the slots anymore. Also, the constant bulging eventually wore the plastic out and they leaked. I still have the cooler, so I bought these replacements, but I can't really say that I like them. I've had a bunch of Rubbermaid Blue Ice blocks for about three times as long as these. They don't bulge anywhere near as much as these and none of them have ever leaked. ... show more

I've been using these all summer in my Igloo brand lunchbox. While they definitely expand and become malformed with constant thawing and freezing, they have still fit into the slots in my lunchbox so far. I imagine with enough time, though, they probably won't fit and may even crack. Which is why Igloo rightfully discontinued them. They do work, just don't expect them to last forever. ... show more
