  • Really like the savings on ink, but printer could be much faster
I purchased this single-function printer because I have a super high end scanner that is fast as blazes. So I was looking for an economical printer for color prints that also included an automatic duplexing feature. This fit the bill and was reasonably priced. Installation was pretty simple, I followed the internet-suggested method of installing from my Android phone. That went pretty well. But the results were less than great. The printer connected wirelessly through a 2-g connection and was painfully slow in printing. I purchased a repeater for the internet to get to higher transmission speeds (hopefully) but ultimately gave up and went with a direct-to-computer USB install. That seemed to help a lot but also makes it less convenient for others to link wirelessly to the printer. I am testing out network availability for others in our small company but will likely just purchase more machines for both convenience and speed. Ink use has seemingly been great! We print most everything in color and with automatic duplexing, this seems to be the most economical approach available. Print quality is pretty good though color saturation seems less than with the HP 8620 this unit replaces. Plus the HP would knock out prints super fast, much faster than this new Canon, and I miss that production capability from the prior machine. I will up date this report as time bears out how fast this Canon G5020 spits out copies and also how the printhead holds up. My HP glided through 50,000 copies without a hitch, then "went on vacation". I'm hoping the printhead on this Canon does as well or better. Let's see how it works out! ... show more

  • Nice printer with some quirks that's also dual voltage 100-240v 50/60Hz
There's not a lot to add to the already thorough reviews for this printer, aside from clearing up mistaken information given so people know once and for all that this printer is, in fact, dual voltage. So, for those of you who need to use it overseas while on military deployment or whatever, yes, the G5020 works on 100-240v 50/60Hz! I asked this question before I purchased it, and every answer said it was USA-style 110v only. Not so! I've attached a picture from the bottom of the printer, so you can clearly see for yourself that it will also work on 220-240v in Europe, etc.... I'm using the G5020 in Belgium right now and it's fine on 230v 50Hz power; it just needed the adapter plug. The only documentation I could eventually find that listed the dual voltage chops of this printer was on Canon's website for the MacOS setup pdf. If I hadn't found that, then I wouldn't have purchased it due to the answers I received. I deleted the question on here so others wouldn't be misled if they were in the same situation, and hopefully they'll see this. The 6020 and 7020 are also dual voltage, of course, since they're the same printer with additional scan, copy and fax features. Quirk 1. No usb cable was included for setup or otherwise. A bit annoying, actually, but it can be set up with ethernet, wifi or directly on the printer's tiny lcd panel, so not a deal breaker. This brings us to Quirk 2. As others have said, follow the included instructions for setup step by step in the proper order, or you'll have issues. It has a download address for Canon printer software during setup. When you get to the printer connection type and you choose ethernet or wifi, make sure you set up the netword connection on the printer before proceeding with the software installation. As in...be sure to select ethernet cable or wifi before proceeding and complete the process on the printer lcd screen. Otherwise, the software can't find the printer to set it up. Most printers prompt you to complete this step to proceed. Not this one. So weird. Oddly enough, as soon as I did this, the printer set itself up without the sofware and I had to wait and then install the software and go back through setup. I'm using this printer on MacOS Big Sur 11.5.1 and the print quality is fine. Black text is razor sharp on plain paper. Color is good as well, but lets be serious here, the big draw for this printer is the ink bottle refill system (which works so slick it'll make you smile when you refill) rather than uber-expensive toner cartridges, so most hopefully aren't expecting outstanding color photo print quality. It's not that type of printer! However, if you print much at all in color, you'll save a ton on ink. If you only print in color occasionally or rarely, it's even better: No more 18 month expiration of cartridges to worry about (I've been burned more than once on expired cartridges that stopped working even though they were nearly full or completely new and unused). Happily recommended! ... show more

  • Cool printer, doesn't come with scanner
No scanner? I was unpleasetly surprised that it didn't come with a scanner, but generally it is a decent printer. I see a lit of bad reviews of this printer, but it really is easy if ya follow the directions.
