  • great printer very easy to use not made in US
ease of use, did not use for photos, good home office printer

  • Easy set up, great features, low price.
I haven't owned a printer or a scanner in years, but decided it was finally time. After reviewing a lot of other products, I decided to go with the PIXMA TS5020 because it was economically priced, had a scanner, wireless printing, allowed me to just replace the color ink that I needed and best of all, it was going to be delivered on a Sunday. So I have to say, this thing was a breeze to set up--just make certain you have some printer paper on hand, as it does not come with even a small stack in the box, and you will need paper to complete the set up and calibration. So, really, this was just a plug it in, follow the on screen instructions of removing packaging material, inserting paper, printing a test page, scanning a test page, and then to get it onto the network you need to use the included CD-ROM which allows you to directly connect to the printer to set up the wireless network from your computer--make certain you know your wifi password by heart as it will disconnect your computer from your network while it connects directly to the printer. Whole thing took maybe 10 minutes to complete and be able to print. Printing is fast and high quality, nice sharp images and text. The scanner scans fast, but its a bit noisy, not like, jackhammer outside the window at 7 am noisy, but noisy enough that I was thinking why couldn't they add a bit of soundproofing or some wd-40 to the scanner to make it quieter. Overall, I'd buy this printer again without hesitation. ... show more

  • Let the buyer be aware!
Before I talk about the printer itself, I want to talk about the terms of the deal, which didn't register when my old Pixma failed, I needed a printer fast and I wanted to be able to reuse my secondary market ink and ink tanks, thus limiting my choice: I was unable to register the printer with Canon because the serial # is a Canadian # and won't register. There appears to be no warranty beyond the Amazon one. The seller advertised on the Amazon site at the time I purchased "only 2 left." Less than a week later, that same seller is now saying "only 6 left." I do note that though the box was unopened and the printer is marked "new" that the box has seen a lot of wear, as though it has been moved/shipped/handled a lot. Now to the printer: while different from my prior one, it prints fine: clear, black, or true color. It's pretty quiet compared to my Pixma MG6820. The control panel is hinged at the top to the front of the printer and must be flipped up to print/copy/scan. The output paper trey is concealed by the front panel and it must be pulled out to receive paper. I find the wording on the little control window on the front confusing/non-intuitive but expect that will get better when I use the printer more. If this printer lasts 2 years (which was the life-span of my MG6820) and continues to perform as it has for the last few days, I will be very, very happy with it. However, based on some experiences with electronics, I have my fingers crossed and am saving $ for next printer especially since there is, basically, no warranty. The poor tech support rating is because dealing with Canon re the old printer was so unhelpful/confusing even when I was willing to pay the $19.99 fee. ... show more

  • Terrible design, wifi issue with Win10
Just awful. First, wireless connection repeatedly goes out. Went through it with Canon tech support. Uninstalled drivers and reinstalled. Took it step by step. Works fine - initially. Then, without warning, will cycle page after page of blank paper. Canon tech support thinks it may be an issue with Win10. Ok, when will you have a patch? No patches offered until "enough" customers complain. How many is "enough"? How many have already complained? Can't tell me what number is "enough". All he could say is "a few" customers have complained. Great! Anyone affected has to wait for "enough" people to complain in order to get the patch that will allow them to use wireless. Switched to USB printer cable (Canon doesn't provide, so additional expense because they have no patch for the wireless problem). Installing USB cable is a challenge because port is on an angle and in a very tight space. If your fingers are adult sized, call your kids. My nine year old's fingers were the only ones that fit. Paper is loaded from back which is inconvenient if you have the printer's front facing you, like most people do. What's worse is it is a very small opening, so you can only use a small amount of paper. But it gets even worse!! You need to lift a plastic guard to fit the paper into the tray. Every time you do that, you need to confirm paper size on the screen of the printer itself. It's NOT a touchscreen. So, you need to use the arrows to toggle through the options. So, you get a small amount of paper, which means you need to refill a LOT and then you need to reset the setting each time. Brilliant!!! Who doesn't want to waste tons of time refilling the paper tray and reconfirming the settings!!! What idiot designed this? If you're buying it for your kid to print some homework or you print a page or two at a time, it's a functional printer. If you use Windows10 and need a wireless connection and/or you print a lot of pages/pictures, you will hate with this printer. Honestly, it feels like a Junior High student designed this disaster for a science fair project. Normally, I would want to give this no stars. Yes, I know Amazon doesn't let us do that. But, I can give this one star simply because Canon has moved their tech support to the USA. The guy I spoke with understood English!!! I almost got up and did a dance of joy. Yes, he wasn't able to help with the wifi problem, but that's not his fault. He's customer service and he can only offer what Canon has available and they don't have a patch for the wifi problem. It was just such a delight to be able to understood the tech support rep, to have him understand me, to not have to spell "big" words like "driver" and not have to explain that, no, I'm not talking about my car. As much of an engineering cowpie this printer is, I have to applaud Canon for moving tech support back to the US. It DOES make a difference!!! It was such a relief to not have to spend an hour on the phone asking for someone who understood basic English. Thank you for that, Canon. Now, please, go fire the buffoons that designed this printer. ... show more

  • Awesome, what are the negative reviews about
I love how companies keep making "new" models once the aftermarket people crack the code for the ink. All the printers you see these days are super cheap but the ink costs just as much if not more than the printer. This printer works perfect, Easy hookup. Tip: Mine will not print with VPN on turn it off. Also I bought this model because it is older and the ink is so cheap. Do not worry about the printer you buy without looking at what ink it takes! ... show more
