5 Years As a Great Printer
I've worked this printer hard for the last 5 years. Initially found it very easy to set up as wireless. It prints very well and has made some very nice photos. Now, it's starting to give me some trouble. It probably will need some repair. Repair these days when out of warantee is expensive. So I'm just just going to buy a new one from Amazon. Horribly Difficult to Set Up For Chromebook
I This printer has no display panel, so the only way it can communicate with you is through an external computer or by flashing lights on the control panel. This is not good, since until the printer is set up for Wifi, it can't communicate with your computer, particularly if you use a Chromebook that cannot communicate with the printer via USB. I am a geek and have set up dozens of printers over the years. This one can be a nightmare to set up for wireless and Google Cloud operation. The instructions are confusing and misleading. Worse than useless. I was unable to set it up using either a Chromebook or a Windows 7 computer. Eventually I had to borrow a Windows 10 computer, but even then it didn't seem to like downloading via Google Chrome. Had to use Microsoft Edge. After fooling around for hours without getting anywhere following the instructions that came with the printer I discovered a procedure involving using a Canon utility downloaded via the CD that came with the printer. The utility (which runs on windows 10 but not windows 7) has a wizard for logging the printer into your wifi' SSID. After several attempts, it finally connected the printer to the Wifi. After that I used a menu item in the utility to get the local IP address the router assigned to the printer. I then pointed my browser to that IP address to pull up a password protected screen, entered the password of the printer (a search of the internet showed that the password is the printer's serial number). A printer control panel then popped up on the browser. I then searched through menus on the control panel to find and execute a Google Cloud setup wizard. At last, Cloud Print was up and running. None of this is directly spelled out in any of the instructions that came with the printer. My advice is that if you don't have a Windows 10 machine with a DVD drive and don't have a lot of time and perseverance, buy something else. Buy a printer with a display panel that allows you to directly select your Wifi SSID, enter the Wifi password, and then set up Google Cloud without having to use an external computer. ... show more

Great!
This is an amazingly cool printer if what you primarily want is reliability, cheap ink replacement, and ease of setup. The photo print quality is a bit below the average, but it's "good enough" for most everyday tasks. What makes this printer special? Not only does it refill with real ink bottles- yes that's right, no more cartridges- but it has large inkwells meaning that with normal document printing you get a ton of use out of one fill. I've been printing replacement DVD covers for some titles whose cases got destroyed, and the printer does seem to guzzle a bit. With a very rough estimation I might get 50 DVD covers out of the color ink at the rate it's going. That might seem a bit average for the size of the tanks, but then again I could refill the printer with gallon jugs of ink from eBay if I feel like it. Works for me! But wait- there's a surprise! Ever had the problem with an old inkjet where no matter how many times you do the "print head alignment" it just won't print correctly anymore? You get lines, or streaks, or missing colors no matter how often you swap the ink? This printer features- drumroll please- real replaceable print heads. Confusingly, Canon calls these "print cartridges", but they're honest-to-goodness print heads you can remove and replace. Theoretically, that means that printer will outlive most of its competition because the two parts that are most likely to break on you- cartridges and print heads- can be totally serviced in this new model. As for the rest? Again, photo print quality so far just seems "okay". I don't have the highest quality paper, but the prints I'm getting don't blow my socks off. They're perfect for the DVD covers I'm printing, but I don't know if the printer could do a glossy 8x10 family photo at the level people might expect. For document printing though, this is a beast with big tanks. No complaints. And it scans, and has the usual-size paper tray, and it has wireless setup, and it copies... everything you'd get out of a normal all-in-one printer. So far, I'm in love. Does everything my old printer did, hasn't had a single print problem after a dozen full-size photo pages, and I can finally put real ink in my printer. I hope it lasts! ... show more

Solid printer
We all know the pain of going to use a printer and it needing updates, drivers, or reconnected to your device. This printer doesn't do any of that. It connects easily and works every time. The ink lasts forever. I've used it consistently for 10 months and have yet to replace any ink. I have only used it for documents sometimes pictures on regular paper. I havent tried it for photos so I can't say anything about that. But so far, I love a reliable and easy to use printer. ... show more

Love it -- when it works. Buy extra print heads to have on hand!
This is my favorite printer -- when it works. I love the print quality, especially with photos. The speed is good. The ink tanks are wonderful. You can do a lot of printing before you have to refill them. The problem is that the print heads fail too often. Sometimes they just clog and can be cleared by Cleaning or Deep Cleaning, but even that has problems. The cleaning process shoots a lot of ink through the system, where it gets caught by sponges in the printer's base. Eventually, the sponges fill up and, unless you want to pick them out piecemeal and try to replace them, you'll need to replace the printer. Be careful moving it when you do! The ink WILL get all over. The better method, I've found, is to just keep some spare print heads on hand and replace them if a simple Cleaning doesn't make them work again. It's a more expensive option, but replacing the print heads is pretty easy and a lot less frustrating than going through multiple cleaning cycles that don't work. The trick to replacing the ink cartridges (print heads) is that you first need to lift the ink tank covers, press/hold the STOP button for 8 seconds, and then press/hold it again for another 8 seconds. This will bring the print head into the center of its track where you can access it. My latest color print head lasted only about three months before I had to replace it again, so be forewarned. Despite that, yes, I would buy this printer again. I have, in fact, a couple of times. But now I expect it will last a long time, provided I can keep feeding it print cartridges. ... show more

I purchased this PIXMA G3200 printer after my fairly new Epson failed with clogged printer heads. Since the heads on the G3200 are removable, I hope at some point Canon will make them available for consumer replacement. At the very least, they may be easier to clean. Hopefully that will never be necessary. The whole setup process after I got it out of the box took me one hour. The ink bottles are a little stiff and could be hard for some older hands. The connection to my wifi went flawlessly, no problem at all. I followed each instruction very carefully, reading a few steps ahead before proceeding. I recommend running a Print Head Alignment in the Utilities for initial setup. It improved the print quality. I'll be using this printer mostly for documents since the color inks are dye based - not so good for long lasting photo prints. I may try using it in the future for black & white photo prints since the black ink is pigment based. I'm looking forward to not spending a fortune on ink cartridges any more! The pictures I've included (1+2) show the ink levels right after the setup which consumes a small amount of ink to charge and fill the print heads and the tubing to them. (3+4) show where I selected the steps for Print Head Alignment. I installed the "Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY" app on my iPhone 6 and iPad Mini and tested printing and scanning. Worked great! Very convenient to be able to scan something to PDF or JPG and save to my device or even to email directly. There's a lot of other features I have yet to explore. Do Not Buy
FURTHER UPDATE: Don't buy this printer. I bought it in December, 2022. I don't use it often, so it sits powered off most days. When I need it, though, it takes a while to turn on, and then it's error after error. Every time I need to print a single page, an error occurs. Different one each time. Usually I just take the paper out of the feeder and put it back in, and reboot. Then it works. Other times, it just won't work. Waste of money. Okay, got it to print one page in black and white. It will not print any colors. Tanks are full. ---- I like the printer so far. But I was eager to print some photos, and I'm having trouble doing that with the provided software. (And it seems tough to do from Google Docs, which doesn't seem to provide any paper sizes that match common photo paper.) The PhotoPrint Ex software provided with the printer seems like it might do what it needs to do. But then... 1) when it first loads, it completely locks up as -- as it turns out -- it's getting a completely inventory of files on your system. If, as I did, you don't know this, you will force-close the program thinking it's frozen. 2) You cannot paste an image into the photo printing software. It has to be loaded from disk. This is annoying. 3) Once loaded, you darned well have better edited the software to fit the, say, 4x6 photo paper you've chosen because PhotoPrint Ex isn't gonna let you do that. It lets you crop, but if your image is too wide, for example, you can't shrink it down in the PhotoPrint software. Nope. Gotta do that outside the software. And despite many tries, you WILL NOT get it right. It will still be too tall, or too wide, or who knows, but it won't fit. UPDATE: I had to update my home network. Since then, I can't seem to connect to this printer from my Windows machine (which is where I do most of my printing from.) I *think* that if I load up the Canon printer app on my phone, that seems to nudge the thing into connecting to my network. And if that's not the stupidest thing ever, I dunno. A printer made for the consumer!

It's so very refreshing to print and not worry about ink. It feels truly like I've never actually owned a printer before this one; The experience is so different. I'm a graphic designer and bought this to print tri-fold 8.5x11 brochures for my wife's business. So far, I've printed 300 two-sided full color brochures and used about 1/2 the ink. I've broke even on the cost of having the brochures printed by a print shop. So now everything is just gravy. I've even printed a few photos to hang on the walls, because heck, it's not like I'm getting fleeced on the price of ink as you would with other printers. Again, it's so refreshing to not worry about ink usage. Great Feature: The edge-to-edge print feature works flawlessly. Out of the 300 prints, maybe one had a small smudge on the edge. Print quality: Pretty good, not perfection, but to the untrained eye and with the right settings very much print-shop quality. Tip: The highest res setting used much more ink and didn't have a discernible increase in quality. The normal res on "glossy" setting had a great result. ... show more
