Plus, to maximize power and minimize energy consumption, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT can be directed to zoom in accordance with the camera’s image sensor size (full-frame and APS-C). An improved flash control algorithm and a redesigned Quick Flash function help to minimize unfired flashes for more reliable, continuous operation. As compared to the Speedlite 600EX-RT. Wireless flash shooting support is available for both radio and optical transmission, offering users greater functional range when using a flash.Click here for larger imageFor comprehensive lighting setup on the go, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT offers a number of options for both wireless flash and multi-camera operation. When used with a compatible flash, or flash driver mounted on camera, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT can serve as a slave unit in an optical setup, at distances of up to 49.2 ft./15m when indoors and 32.8 ft./10m when outdoors. In addition to optical wireless flash, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT is capable of radio transmitted wireless flash where the flash units need not be in visual proximity to one another and transmission distance is extended up to 98.4 ft./30m. Among cameras with the Speedlite 600EX II-RT attached, setups of up to 16 flash and camera units can be synchronized to take photographs simultaneously, making multi-angle and multi-directional photography setups simple. Additionally, remote shutter release can be achieved when the Speedlite 600EX II-RT is used as a slave unit with a compatible EOS digital SLR camera. Multiple flash system allows control of up to five groups of flashes. In addition to traditional optical wireless transmission, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT facilitates radio-controlled, two-way wireless transmission between up to 5 groups. Communicating on 2.4 GHz frequencies, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT does not have the same directional limitations of traditional wireless optical transmitters. Where other wireless signals can be interrupted by physical obstacles, radio controlled systems excel. Fifteen transmission channels are available, selectable manually or automatically, and radio transmission IDs can be set to prevent misfiring in the event of signal interference on the same channel. Dust- and water-resistant body for reliable operation in various environments. The Speedlite 600EX II-RT is designed to maintain the high standard of dust- and water-resistant performance found on Canon’s EOS-1D series of cameras. Its exterior seams are sealed to help maintain airtightness, while a dust- and water-resistant adapter mounted to the bottom of the flash surrounds and locks around the camera’s hot shoe for a nearly impenetrable seal. By maintaining the overall weather-resistant surface of the EOS-1D series, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT can bring flash photography to more places, in more environments, without compromise. New features include a flash-readiness indicator on display panel, button and dial operation and manual flash output for ease of operation. The Speedlite 600EX II-RT features a highly legible GUI for steady and efficient multi-flash control. Design refinements such as a new flash-readiness indicator on the display panel help ensure that settings are easily confirmed with a glance. New combination button and dial operations not only speed up setting changes and manual flash control, but also help avoid unintended changes through inadvertent presses of buttons for confident, convenient operation. New, specially designed accessories include a bounce adapter, SCF-E3 color hard-type filter sets and a soft case. The Speedlite 600EX II-RT comes with a number of key accessories designed to help position, diffuse and tone its output for optimal results. The Bounce Adapter SBA-E3 widens and diffuses bounce lighting, achieving a soft effect especially in shadow areas. The SCF-E3 color hard-type filter sets include the Color Filter SCF-E3OR1, which is effective in merging ambient incandescent light with the flash’s bluish output for warm, atmospheric results. These accessories also include the Color Filter SCF-E3OR2, which is useful for balancing out the red fogging typical of interior lighting, for more natural, realistic light. Both filters attach and detach with ease for quick and smooth set-up. The Speedlite 600EX II-RT is also bundled with a soft case that is designed not only to hold all its flash accessories, but can also store the flash unit with the filter attached and has a belt loop for speedy access on the go. Dot matrix LCD panel for enhanced display information, including flash mode, C.Fn and P.Fn for quick and convenient visibility. The Speedlite 600EX II-RT’s dot matrix LCD panel graphically displays detailed flash modes, Custom and Personal Function settings and status indicators for both master and slave units, enabling wireless configurations with more detailed information than previous flashes. A new flash-readiness indicator means the flash status can be confirmed in an instant, and backlit operation buttons mean high visibility in both bright and dark environments. 15 Custom Functions and 6 Personal Functions for creative flexibility. To accommodate any number of shooting styles, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT has 15 custom functions for incredible flexibility. Options include flash exposure compensation, flash exposure bracketing controls, modeling flash, AF assist control, power and energy saving features, beep and much, much more. Personal functions, like LCD panel illumination color and Master/Slave configurations, are also easily set on the Speedlite 600EX II-RT. Full swivel, 180° in either direction. The Speedlite 600EX II-RT’s flash head is designed for easy bounce flash, in any direction. The head can be angled 90° up, 7° down and can rotate 180° left and right. A bounce lock with release button helps things stay in place. Additionally, the Speedlite 600EX II-RT features a catchlight panel to create catch light in the eyes of the subject for a more expressive look.

  • Finally...after 30+ years!
I must say I really like this new upgrade to the 600EX-RT. I have the first version and I never really liked it but I was still unsure whether I should try this one or not...I haven't really been impressed with any flashes of the past...So I was thinking why bother, as none of them ever really did what they were supposed to do...You had to do... A LOT of trial and error shots to dial it in as close as possible. Now comes this flash...I have done all kinds of test shots and each one of the original setting shots, was spot on. I hated using ETTL as it never worked but, on this flash...It does! The build quality is upgraded and you feel the differences on the On/Off switch and buttons, it is much better... Really fast recycle times, good battery life and the UI settings is really simple and easy to use...I did notice the recycle times were a little longer in Manual @ 1/1 flash exposure...but I have never really needed 1/1 for anything I shoot. I do/did shoot mostly in Manual as I hated the ETTL results...but with this flash..I will be spreading my visual flash wings so to speak and trying new things as I am sure the results will be what I have been wanting and looking for all these years...with a flash! I have shot Canon for 30+ years and I finally have a great flash...way to go Canon! On the Con...side...the new pouch is just horrible...way to bulky to carry around...bad design...I switched the pouches from the old 600ex-rt and like it much better...some things should not be changed. ;) I will definitely be adding a couple more of these to my equipment list and will be buying from Murphys Camera on Amazon.com! ... show more

  • Glad I could still get one!
Canon has quit making these Speedlites for DSLR cameras. I was shocked since I use mine for photojournalism all the time.

  • Best Speedlite on the market and an indispensable tool for EOS photographers
A brilliant Speedlite, the best Canon has made, and I think the best currently on the market. I have three, and if I had the budget, I'd buy three more tomorrow. Combined with the ST-E3-RT transmitter, setting up complex lighting arrangements is a snap, and all easily controlled right from the back of the camera. (Background for frame of reference - I moved up from 580EX II and 430EX II Speedlites, and have never used the original 600EX.) The Speedlite is very well built, weather sealed, and powerful. Throw in a set of eneloop batteries, and it recycles very fast. Since getting my current set of Speedlites and transmitter, my strobes have yet to leave the studio, and have sat quietly more and more frequently in studio. The freedom, and the creativity that allows, granted by the Speedlites makes using them so much more enjoyable. You can find much cheaper flashes to be sure, but it's hard to go wrong with the Canon's for quality, reliability, and integration with the EOS system. ... show more

  • Perfect addition to my camera
I bought this to use with my Canon 5D Mark four and start practicing with off-camera flash techniques./Is great for off-camera use with a 24 x 24 soft box and it also works fantastic as it is intended as an on camera flash. I like the fact that there's multiple adjustability with it and that is really intuitive to use. Just note that if you're using this off camera then you will need to have a trigger in order to fire the flash with the camera. I bought the Canon trigger and everything works flawlessly. ... show more

  • Great capabilities for a flash
I am a nature photographer, I love the possibilities this flash brings to my photography. As you can see from the picture of a gliding frog, it brings movement. I own several other flash units but this one has the capabilities I was looking for and it is easy enough to operate in order to get these kinds of pictures. The opportunities to bring movement into my pictures opens a whole new world. I have had this for a week and so far I am pleased. ... show more

  • Very happy shooter
I had a 430 ex ii that I managed to burn out and replaced it with a Chinese version. That worked well but was never consistent. I finally had some spare cash for this beast and wow am I impressed. I've used it on both my 7D and my 6D with the 24-105 L and also played around with my 70-200 f2.8. I am so happy with my purchase. I can't wait to try it at my local track for wheels up launches at the lights. ... show more

  • Worked great and it's fast!
So I got this yesterday for use on my Canon 7D Mark ii and Canon 5D Mark iii. LOVE IT!! Fast, fast , fast and did I mention fast. I'm an event photographer and love natural light but when inside a dark club or dark festival I love me some good flash fill. To be honest I've only used it for one gig since I just got it two days ago but it worked great at the party and can't wait to buy another to slave together for studio lights. It does recycle every 1/2 second to second using my Amazon Basic AA's lithium batteries so no complaining from me. Also syncs perfect with both the 7d Mark ii and 5d Mark iii. I'll give a newer more in-depth review after further use. It gets only 4 stars because $579.00 is SPENDY for a flash but I needed a new Canon flash and I'm not buying anything that has an older version when a brand new version just came out. Cool toy for my gear. ... show more

I am in LOVE with these flashes. They talk to each other so I don't have to have a bunch of transmitters/receivers.
