  • Awesome purchase. I can’t praise it enough
Style: Cooking Stove
This is such a nice little unit. I used it to make maple syrup this year. Will probably go to fire heated stove next year, but I couldn’t ask for a better starter set up. It works amazingly. Easy to use. Easy to connect. Good flame control. Easy light. Well made and versatile. It’s easy to transport, but sturdy & well made. I will get even more use out of this this coming summer camping or cooking outside. It’s so versitile . It was an excellent purchase. ... show more

  • Cooks a lot of stuff at one time Cooks a lot of stuff at one time
Style: Cooking Stove
Well...very easy to put together.I had to buy the griddle, stove and bbq box separately but it was pretty close to the price of the tailgaiter model so don't wait ...2 days delivery all 3..Griddle is kinda seasoned I didn't do much but spray it down after sitting in the sun with some some.pam.. Wipe it down good a few times it'll be alright ....it's cast iron not rocket science...burners take some getting used to they go.out if your not watching...that's not unusual....I basically took this out of the box and 15 minutes later I was making bacon, brats and a baked potato...baked beans in the bbq box...I dont have an issue with the legs being uneven it sits in stone just wiggle it a bit.The hole in the griddle for grease to drain is in the left front corner...unless you tilt that way it will not drain...the back of the 14" griddle has a large trough catches all the grease from.the bacon I fried .. It's very easy to soak.it up.with a couple paper towels ....the hole in the front left just seems awkward I like the grease going toward the back leaves the food less oily.1 # of bacon is mostly grease .Just soak.it up.im the back and toss it in the trash what you dont want.Dont be getting all fancy with this thing it's a big ass propane stove you can use your own griddle ..cast iron skillets...pots and pans ...you can heat up the griddle and put pots pans and skillets on it.Mark the knobs might help to know where 350 degrees ....nothing below that cooks well ....that's the minimum...the bbq box is great for keeping stuff hot and made some awesome beans and a baked potato.Lot of folks complain about the wind guard but I have not got that issue. It is hard to see the burner to light it when you are set up...get the long lighter you hafta bend over and look from below if you have your griddle and bbq box on Pain in the ass. My only complaint I saw some videos of these with people using an infrared heat sensor to see what the temp.was....don't get silly it's a skillet and a oven in the simplest form if you can cook .....if you are you looking for a pretty basic stove that can don't all I'd say get this.one...No doubt I haven't used it much but after one time I find it to be durable and pretty well made... The bbq box is pretty awesome it is like a home oven and has a nice thermometer built in..actually quite a heavy item. You can use your own skillets..pots .pans with just the stove but the bbq box and 14" griddle are very nice....still working on the bbq box as far as what to cook...making baked potatos. .Like I said don't get too fancy with this thing. .it is a bad ass outdoor propane stove you can do anything with if you can cook .I bought the bbq box..14" griddle and the stove itself for 357$. ..camp chef did not have the tailgater which is the same 3 items...but seriously..if you have a propane tank you be 5 minutes and this thing is cookin...Definitely get the grill box...I give this thing thumbs up first day using it ....put it together 5 minutes....watch the flame 🔥 it goes up and down....go to harbor freight get some magnetic hangers hold yer stuff on the side for 3$.Definitely get the bbq box....u can use your own skillets and griddle and pots and pans..get the box...good stuff 😀 👍 . ... show more

  • Nice cooker
Style: Cooking Stove
I purchased this for multiple purposes but one of the main purposes was to use with a pressure canner and in water bath canning. While the manufacturer cautions against using with a pressure canner, I have found that in keeping the flame at the lowest setting and using plenty of water in the canner that it is working fine. But you should use caution and experiment to make sure that you can lower the heat enough for your canner to go through the process without running out of water. It is plenty strong enough to hold two pressure canners or two water bath canners at once. The flame can be turned up high to get things up to temp and the turned way do to maintain the proper temp and conserve propane. When cranked up on full blast it has very hot and powerful flame. Use caution! The whole thing can be easily picked up and moved by one person and really doesn't take up much space even fully assembled. I am really liking it so far and it appears to be well made and durable. I will say that I was a bit surprised to see a thin film of rust inside the legs but is not enough to affect function and is not visible once assembled. ... show more

  • First Impressions
Style: Cooking Stove
I have not used this item yet, just received it. But I wanted to leave my impressions now, and I'll update later if it rates less than 5 stars. 1. This thing is BIG. It's bigger than I thought. It's as wide as a standard house stove/oven. This is not a bad thing, but you should know what you're getting. 2. The burners are MASSIVE. There's a reason it's listed at 30k BTU, because this thing means business. 3. It will operate as a table-top unit, and if I can figure out how to get the pics off my phone (used to, now can't), I'll show you. But you'll need a big table. Think picnic table size. The little camp tables are totally inadequate. And since the legs it comes with are plenty sturdy - there's not much need. Nevertheless - it will sit on a table just fine. 4. I also bought the reversible griddle for it. It's a perfect fit and was designed for this unit. I plan to buy a second one so I can fully utilize both sides or either side when cooking. It's probably overkill - but I like having more than I need rather than not enough. 5. I very much like the modular approach with this unit. And while the separate pieces will add up in price, the base unit alone I considered a bargain compared to smaller table-top units you commonly buy for camping - which are very close to the same price anyway. The quality is clearly there, and the K.I.S.S. principle alive and well in the design. 6. The kind of camping you do has an impact here. I plan to do car/tent camping for the most part, with the idea of extended stays. And I intend to do some real cooking while out there. Camp Chef is an appropriate name for the brand and this unit. 7. I'm a personal fan of designs where form follows function, to the point where it ends up becoming art. That's how I see this piece. 8. When I got this unit, the Amazon box it came in was pristine, but the box for the Camp Chef itself was dented. Furthermore, it was clear that it had been retaped. First thought was I was getting someone else's return, which obviously worried me. But the unit was fine, and I concluded it had been opened to ensure the unit hadn't been damaged - so now I'm happy. 9. I failed to get the carry bag that's available for it. That's a mistake I will rectify next week. It deserves a bag: this is something you'll want to protect for years to come. There's no reason for me to think it won't last decades with just a little care. 10. There is no electric start with this unit. If you've got to have that, this isn't the unit for you. My personal opinion goes back to the K.I.S.S. principle: it's one less thing to eventually break or go wrong, more parts that might need replacing later. I would PREFER a camp lighter. They're cheap and you can have several just in case. 11. My unit came with the propane hose attached, so you only need the propane tank and you're in business. 12. The legs and the windscreen came with a bag to hold them, which was a nice surprise. That will help with them not getting scratched or lost. One last thing: I looked extensively over all the table-top units by various manufacturers, with the intention of buying one of them. None of them felt right: all seemed to have some sort of problem or drawback. Either quality/longevity, or windscreen problems, or connector problems or burner issues or too hot with no adequate low setting. Something. So when I found this, although it's probably more than I need - I knew for certain it wasn't going to be LESS than I needed, and it had the option to grow with my expertise if I wanted it to. So now, having seen it in person - I know it was the right decision for me. ... show more

  • Solid construction, good performance, some design considerations..
Style: Cooking Stove
I was shopping for a stove to take with me camping in the mountains but also double as an outdoor stove for the patio for my condo. I think I've found it. PRO: The Camp Chef Explorer EX-70LW 2-burner provides enough power (2x30,000 BTU) to bring 1 liter of water from 70F to boiling (at 5500 feet) in just under 4 minutes. Another surprise was how small it packed, the shipping box measures 15x8x33 inches, small enough to fit in the back of my miniSUV with room for gear. When setup, the stove has a surprisingly small foot print (21 inches x 38 inches), small enough to setup on my tiny patio. I have yet to try cooking rice/pasta, but the controls are precise and fine. I don't expect to have troubles with simmering dishes on low heat. When setup, the stove will stay put. The cast iron construction makes the entire unit sturdy. CONS: I found a few design issues that are worth mentioning. -The four legs have independent height measurements. I'm not sure this is a 'CON', but you imagine that a level is required. I enjoy the adjustability of the long legs for uneven surfaces, but was wishing there was a built in level to determine whether or not the stove was level.I ended up using my own level. I will likely bring it with me as part of the camping gear. The long legs can be removed for a simple table-top stove, but you lose the ability to adjust the level of the stove. Adjustable legs for the main unit is desired. - The control knobs are too recessed. I imagine that if you have some accessories (say the grill boxes or any kind of cookware) that it'll block the view of the knobs. I wish these were extended out from the stove further, without impacting the ability for the whole unit to disassemble into such a small footprint. - The port for the gas manifold sticks out at the user resulting in the hose to the tank to stick out at you (unless you bend the hose). A better design would have been to put the port towards the back of the manifold. - The burners themselves are excellent. You'll need some large cookware on this stove as the diameter of the burner is 6" and the flames (at full power) extend another 1-2 inches around the side (when deflected by a pot of equal diameter). And as other reviewers have commented, you will need some very heavy bottom pans or better yet, cast iron for cookware, as the heat is quite intense. - The connection of the propane hose to the manifold is brass on brass, and teflon is recommended. I would have preferred the nipple to contain some kind of rubber gasket (replaceable of course) so I could do away with the teflon. - It's silly to buy a separate case for this stove. I would have preferred that instead of a box, a tough plastic case (with carrying handle) be used to ship and store the item. See for example 2 Ton Floor Jack \ Case. ... show more

  • Our new favorite thing
Style: Cooking Stove
We got this for camping and emergency prep (in case we needed to evac). What we found is that it is much larger and heavier than we expected (duh....like we shoulda paid more attention to the product description), so although it's perfect if we need to shelter in place, it isn't the best choice for situations where we have minutes to escape the house from an approaching wildfire and need to toss it in the back of the car. For it to fit we might need to leave one or two cats behind. OK, maybe the cat thing is an exaggeration, but it is big and it is heavy. That's not the fault of the product, just our failure to read and understand its product description. That said, it is an absolutely awesome camp stove. We use it on our patio (I HATE our charcoal-powered BBQ), and have found we now seek out recipes for grilling just so we can use it. (We bought the grill/griddle plate as well.) It's powerful, compact, and grills food in a flash. Cleanup is quick and easy. It's perfect for tailgates and car camping (as long as you don't have to haul it a super long distance.) I like being able to grill on one side and have the other side free for boiling water or whatever. And as far as the weight goes, it's not so heavy you can't carry it (and it has a neat carry bag), it's just not conveniently lightweight where you could toss it in the car like a beachball, and it does take up a lot more room that one of those small lightweight coleman camp stoves (which we're also gonna purchase for our original intent--a quick stove to toss in the car in an evacuation event.) ... show more

Style: Cooking Stove
I'd been thinking about buying the Camp Chef Explorer 2 Burner Range for a few years, after it was recommended to me by a friend who also does a lot of canning. I'm so glad I finally did! This is perhaps the best Amazon purchase I've made all year. Not only does this range allow us to do as much canning as we want without turning our tiny, unvented kitchen into a sauna, but it is FAST. I haven't timed it yet, but it heats up our 5 gallon stockpot to a simmer incredibly quickly. With it, we've been able to put up dozens of quarts of chicken stock, tomatoes, pickles, hot sauce, and more in a fraction of the time it normally takes. It lights easily, is easy enough for me to carry on my own (without propane tank attached, of course), the windscreen has worked for me on even fairly windy days, and I've been able to use it in the garage (with the garage door open) when it rains, with no problem. It was very easy to put together, and is incredibly sturdy. In fact, when my husband opened the box, he was immediately concerned that I'd spent a ton of money on it (due to its readily apparent quality) and was astonished to find out I only paid about $100. I'm planning to slowly buy the accessories for it, like the double-sided grill pan/griddle, carrying case, etc. This range will definitely be my primary cooking range all summer long. ... show more

  • Camp Chef seems an excellent company
Style: Cooking Stove
I have a new office with private parking two blocks from the MSU football stadium and decided it might be fun to host "tail gate" parties for clients. Thus I was looking for a stove that could cook things quickly but also could be easily picked up and stored in a closet / file room when not in use. This unit has worked well for that purpose and is now hibernating for the winter. I also anticipate using it for my Rotary club events or other group outings. While I was at it I also ordered the windscreen, a BB30Lgrill box, a CGG16 cast iron grill / griddle, a Lodge Logic grill press with a spiral metal handle, spatula, flame diffuser, a pair of red side panels and a CB60 carry bag for the stove. All have worked well (though I've not yet had any need for the diffuser). The stove seems solid enough to last a century, yet it stores nicely in the carrying bag which has sleeves for the legs and a windscreen. The carrying bag is strong enough to carry the stove as if holding a gym bag. The manufacturer is not kidding when the directions say to open the propane valves slowly due to a blowout prevention system; open them slowly and it works fine. The individual legs lengths can be adjusted a couple inches, via thumbscrews, for uneven ground. The grill griddle combination works well; I actually am preferring the griddle side so that I can saute onions and peppers at the same time as a couple burgers or easily change from one food to the other. The cast iron press is kind of an antique (wire handle more durable than wood) that is functional for cooking burgers, etc. quickly. It only covers one burger or grilled sandwich; I should have ordered two. The grill box is not as heavy duty as other items, but it works. Come to think it, if it were made out of cast iron it might be too heavy to lift! I used it for satay (precooked frozen) shrimp on (metal) skewers, which can be made ahead of time and quickly cooked and the grill box did that fine. The main reason I'm taking time to write this review is the great customer service from the Camp Chef company. My stuff arrived missing one bolt assembly and one screw. The company quickly sent me the missing screw and a whole new handle package for the grill box. (The design is quite basic so I had substituted some larger bolts from my junk bin, but it's nice to have them all the same size.) Thus I'm glad to recommend the product. ... show more
