Of course I just installed it immediately on a vent fan, you will need a cowling to attach it to a straight 6 inch bathroom "fart" fan. It is not large enough to fit around the "fart" fan I purchased, so I fashioned a cowling to screw it on, then taped it for waterproofing. I'm no "fart" fan installer, so didn't do the full blown correct solution. Best to read other reviews of how to attach it best.
