  • really good coffee
Size: 10-Cup Color: Stainless Steel
I'm pretty happy with this machine, but I'm giving it to my son since I still prefer my moccamaster. However, it is a good machine. The instructions are written clearly and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot at least an hour or slightly more. It also grinds the coffee as you go, which is supposed to make a perfect cup, but it's a bit of a learning curve since I found it muddy one time and weak the next. Zomeh9w, since then, it's been really good (but not as good as my moccamaster). This also has a filter, but no clear replacements seem to be for sale yet. I'm not that concerned, because we use filtered water (so does my son). The filters on the previous model of this coffee maker are rectangular, these are circular. Anyways, the clincher here is how long it lasts, because it's a great coffeemaker. Lots of options to get your favorite grind and Brew. Although easy to figure out, it's not entirely intuitive, but it's not hard to learn. Again, I prefer the simplicity of my moccamaster. I also prefer using my separate grinder, because we also like switching beans from one pot to another. If you're looking at coffee makers at this price, I still would recommend the Moccamaster over this, but this is a nice looking more complex option. ... show more

  • Not a vine reviewer and love this coffee maker
Size: 10-Cup Color: Matte Black
This looks better than any coffee maker I have ever owned and makes a better cup of coffee than any previous machine. Can't beat this at all.

  • Coffee is good
Size: 10-Cup Color: Stainless Steel
I was hoping this would hold more water and coffee beans than it does. I will have to check it for a week or so, but I am moving right now and just wanted to test it out. It may be okay for a week with just mugs, but it pretty much holds fourteen or sixteen "cups" of water. You know, taking into account a "cup" in coffee terms is 6oz rather than the standard 8 oz/cup. It was fairly easy to set up. You have to have the carbon filter in the water container or it will leak the water everywhere. I was just going to run a couple of pots of water through it because it does have a bit of a smell, not sure if it is new plastic or whatever they put in it before shipping so it stays nice looking. Not offensive, but I don't want to drink it. There are two baskets, one for the 10 cup pot option, one for the mug option. I did wash everything that comes off before using it. Oh, and there is a lock on the grinder. I didn't see that in the instructions, but the machine won't grind and shows an error until you unlock it. It is on the actual grind mechanism inside the bean basket. Just turn it in the unlock direction and lock again if you need to move the machine. I think if it stays on your counter or coffee station, you don't need to lock it. I just brewed a single mug of coffee. It is fairly easy to select the size. It goes up by 2oz increments. The gold was not as strong as I usually make my coffee, but it tastes fine. It was the last choice so I figured it was the strongest. You can also turn off the grinder and use already ground coffee, but the main point for me is not having to grind the beans then make the coffee. I am looking forward to using this in my new house. It does look really nice. ... show more

  • Great Coffeemaker - Product Registration Fail
Size: 10-Cup Color: Matte Black
First, GE makes a great appliance with the Café coffeemaker, however, they fail when it comes to after sale items such as product registration (you can’t do it). The SmartHQ app is not bad, and I like it so far. It is intuitive and provides additional functionality for the coffeemaker than what is available on the keypad. I have been using a brand “B” Grind N Brew for over 15 years and love it but recently switched to a pod brewer due to its great convenience and easy cleanup as compared to the brand “B.” The coffee is different in a pod brewer, and I miss a brewed coffee that first “blooms” the grounds before brewing (like the brand “B” does), so I thought I would try this one since I have become a “brew one mug at a time” guy as I approach my 7th decade. Is this unit worth $280? Read on and you may agree with me that the decision is a no-brainer. First, the unit was packed extremely well, and all contents and components were in excellent condition. After washing the components, according to the instructions, I set it up for brewing one mug at a time. The first mug was almost a disaster as I did not verify that all components were assembled and ready for use and water was everywhere. I even found a square gasket inside my coffee mug and decided I had better do this correctly. I carefully examined all the basket components and found some issues and corrected them. The square gasket was on a flat plastic disc that fit above the basket directly attached to the coffee maker. Be sure this is assembled correctly. I needed a flashlight (and another hand) to get everything assembled correctly. I assumed (correctly) that a tight seal was necessary for proper operation and the square gasket along with the plastic disc were critical for this seal. Yes, I should have read the instructions before brewing my first mug! Once the gasket and disc were in their proper configurations, the second mug was excellent. I increased the amount from 12 ounces to 16 ounces and dropped the strength to “bold” from “gold” and I now understood what a great cup of coffee tasted like. I then brewed a third mug. This was better than the prior two mugs, but it is a matter of personal taste, of course. Next, I tried using ground coffee instead of beans and the result was great, as before. Just make sure you set “grind off” before brewing. Sound: Café’s grinding is unbelievably quiet. There must be soundproofing in the unit as the sound was quite diminished and not objectionable as all other grinders I have used are. You will be gratified with the gentle sound of this unit. I would suggest raising the mug if you are not using the carafe. The stream of brewed coffee from the basket moves around and I was concerned about the stream missing the mug. If you are using a narrow cup, this will be critical to avoid a mess. Another important thing to ensure is that the basket is properly moved into place, so it clicks, and you select either “Mug” or “Carafe” on the basket to ensure proper function. Time: Once the brew cycle is completed, a timer is displayed with time after brew completed and you must keep the mug on the stand for 2-3 minutes to allow all the water in the basket to empty. After you do this, you will not have dripping, etc. when you remove the basket. After the brew cycle was completed, I was able to remove the basket and dump the filter and grounds into a compost bin with no drips or mess. Likes: Exactness of the brew selected and consistency each time. After selecting the brew parameters, you will be rewarded with the same quality of brew each time. Cleanup is a cinch, and everything is easy to clean. The keypad is intuitive, and you only need to consult the instructions briefly for certain settings. I especially like brewing a mug from my desk (using the SmartHQ app) and having it ready when I want it-one trip into the kitchen instead of two. I keep a “standby” mug on the unit at all times for this purpose. My Settings for a Perfect Cup Another great feature is setting the brew temperature. I set it for 205 degrees (we are at 5600 feet ASL and water boils at a much lower temperature) and the bloom time for 10 seconds, strength to “Medium” and volume to 16 ounces. The grind is set to 3. This heats my ceramic mug enough so that the coffee does not cool as fast-no more preheating ceramic mugs. The result is a perfect cup of hot coffee that suits my taste. I use the big “C” warehouse club beans, as an FYI. Major Dislike: When registering the unit for ownership, warranty, etc. I went to the website on the registration card and filled out the form with the following response: “Your request cannot be processed at this time.” Huh? Next, I tried using the QR Code on the product registration card in the packaging. When I opened the site, the response was: “Our Apologies, the page was not found…” I tried registering the product using Chrome and Edge browsers-big fails. I then tried using my Google account to log in-another big fail. After several days of their registration page failures, I gave up and mailed-in the Registration Card, which provides all my personal information to anyone handling the card-Thanks GE Marketing! Bottom Line: A wonderful coffee maker worth the cost. 5 Stars to the Design and Manufacturing folks and ZERO stars to GE Marketing for introducing customer frustration and disappointment to a truly wonderful product. ... show more
