This is the best drip coffee maker I have ever had. It's operation mechanism is beautifully simple so I have no doubts that it can last a heck of a long time. I keeps the temperature of the water at a good brewing temperature all the time. This functionality is really nice for my spontaneous desire to have coffee outside of the usual early morning because it can make a quality brew of a full pot in about 4 minutes. My personal belief is that the best way to make coffee is a French press for overall flavor. The nice thing about this coffee maker is you can put a normal-sized French press underneath and just use the maker as a hot water dispenser. I really like the styling of the machine. Typically, Bunn coffee makers are designed solely for functionality and thus are just a lot of stainless steel. They would stick out like a sore thumb in a kitchen and be an eyesore for some. This machine looks far more inoffensive in a typical American style kitchen. My only complaints are fairly mild. I wish the machine had a little more solid a feeling. Don't get me wrong, the plastic of the body is well made and fairly rigid just the machine doesn't have that reassuring heft I'd like for a machine in this price point. I also find the descaling process I must do every 3 months or so a little bit of a nuisance cause the whole process takes around 3 hours. It's easy to do but its something you need to plan your time around. And on that note if you have really hard water where you live I HIGHLY recommend using bottled water for when you make coffee. Using super hard water will cause wicked bad scale buildup and probably shorten the lifespan of the machine even if you do monthly descaling with vinegar.

I have tried many different coffee pots and never completely happy with any of them. I debated when buying this one and I shouldn't have. My mom always had a Bun when I was growing up and I finally just caved and gave it a try after my last coffee pot died only 3 months after I bought it. This was one had a sleeker look than the one I remember growing up and I was interested how the thermos would work. The machine itself works just like I expected. No fancy operations. Just add your filter and coffee, pour the water in, and done. Almost instantly coffee starts brewing and it is hot. The thermos keeps it at that hot temp for about an hour and then it keeps it warm for a while after that. I wish it would keep it hotter longer, but is probably too much to ask and unrealistic. Even thou it brews the coffee fast, the coffee taste great! One of the best I have had and I have tried a lot of different coffee pots from cheap to expensive. I like how I can control how strong the coffee is as well verses something like the K cups. I also love the way it looks on my kitchen counter. I wipe it off and rinse it out at the end of the day to clean it and it still looks new even after using it for for a couple months.

Bunn makes one of the best and fastest coffee machines in the marketplace. I bought the Bunn 55200 to replace my former Bunn coffee maker. It lasted 10 years of daily use. As a coffee-lover you won't likely find one better. It takes very little to start making coffee right out of the box.

I was a bit disappointed with this coffee maker initially, but now that I've figured out how to overcome one small issue, I love it! The issue was that if I put fresh ground coffee into the filter basket at night, when I got up the next morning to make coffee, the grounds would be wet and there would be some water in the bottom of the carafe. To avoid that, I would just leave the filter basket on the counter at night and leave the carafe in place to catch the small amount of water that was leaking during the night. But that was frustrating to do, and I almost returned the coffee maker because of the problem. But then I figured it out. I was leaving the water reservoir lid open at night because I had gone ahead and added my fresh water so that the next morning I could just close the lid to start the brewing process. If I closed the water reservoir lid at night and waited until the next morning to add water, my grounds would be completely dry with no sign of leakage. Here's what I think was happening.... I have the coffee maker on a smart plug because I don't want the heater running 24/7. With the lid open, the heated portion of the water reservoir is sealed off from the section where the fresh water is poured in, so when the heater was coming on, thermal expansion was causing the water to seep into the filter basket since it had nowhere else to go. With the lid closed, the two water areas are open between each other, so when the heater comes on and thermal expansion occurs, the water can expand into the fresh water section instead of being forced into the filter basket. So now I just make sure the lid is closed until I'm ready to pour in fresh water in the morning, and there's no more leaking. If you choose to leave the heater on 24/7 instead of using a smart plug to control it, you may not have the leaking issue, but I haven't tested that. I have the smart plug turn the coffee maker on early in the morning and then power it off several hours later because I don't want it running 24/7. I'm probably being overly cautious, but I like to minimize fire risks, and I don't want to use electricity to keep the water hot when I'm not using it. Once I fixed that issue, I really like this coffee maker. The coffee tastes better than any maker I've had before. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee plenty hot for about three hours, but I do fill it with hot water for a couple of minutes before I make coffee just to heat it up good. You won't be disappointed with the coffee maker once you get used to it. It's a nice looking machine, and it makes great coffee!

I'm retired Navy. I've used Bunn coffee makers my entire adult life, sometimes under arduous conditions. Bunns are the one coffee maker you could always count on to make your morning cup of sludge. I thought about getting one of the office style professional coffee makers, but those are fairly expensive, so I decided to take a chance with one of their home models. Previously, we'd been using a Keurig (which are the coffee industry's way of getting coffee to $50/pound...), and before that, a Cuisinart (great coffee machine). First, if you're looking for any kind of lights, clock, or anything to give you an indication that the unit is energized, all you have is a very small blue LED on the power switch, located at the bottom right rear of the brewer (as you're facing it). Unfortunately, you can't really see it unless you have your nose at counter height and are looking directly at it from the side. Otherwise, you got nothin'. Second, it makes coffee. You add coffee like a Bunn coffee maker, by placing a couple of scoops of your favorite grind (Community for us) into the filter, add water through the top, and close the lid. Note that we leave ours ON all the time (per Bunn's recommendation), otherwise you're waiting for the tank to heat. Once the lid is dropped, you'll have coffee in about five minutes. When it starts to sound like an airplane taking off, you'll know the coffee's ready. You do have to bend down to see if any coffee is still being dripped into the carafe. Third: A recommendation. Use original Bunn coffee filters. Recent studies have shown that paper filters remove some harmful oils from coffee during brewing, which can have heart-protective benefits. The reason for the Bunn filters is that the Bunn brew funnel is a bit taller than other coffee makers and Bunn filters are about 1/4 taller than the industry standard, so shorter filters may (will) leak coffee grounds inside the funnel. The Bunn filters prevent this (they're available here on the 'zon and at Wally's place). In use, the Bunn is quiet, fairly quick, and brews a decent cuppa. One thing I miss is the heat plate of the professional Bunns. The steel carafe is great and it does work to keep your coffee warm for a couple of hours, but it doesn't give you the same feedback as the heat plate when a drop falls and you hear it sizzle on the burner. So why did we buy this? Both my wife and I have fond memories of the Bunn pro coffee makers. The pro Bunns are all about stainless steel, glass, and being heavy duty weapons of caffeine destruction. This countertop model is, in a word, lightweight. The only thing remotely heavy duty about it is the carafe, and that's only the steel part. The plastic handle is still pretty lightweight. One thing about the number of cups: Bunn advertises this as a '10-cup' coffee maker. That's if you count a 'cup' as about five ounces. I drink my coffee from a pretty typical 12-ounce cup and I get just under five cups from a pot. We brew two, and sometimes three, pots a day, and I have no doubt that this Bunn will last us at least five years, if not longer. It does work well, but it just doesn't have the 'human factors' of its MIL-SPEC cousins. Still, if you're in the market for a nice-looking, light duty coffee maker that makes a decent cup of coffee, you can do a LOT worse. Recommended.

the one thing that i'm still on the fence about: the water tank is plastic. i'm undecided on how i feel about the water being heated constantly in a plastic tank. our commercial version at work is metal and i'd really prefer that. but it is enormous. this coffee maker is comparable in size to most others. this replaced a cuisinart 10 cup with carafe. the start button stopped making contact inside the unit (this was the second coffee maker that had the same issue over a few years' time). after a bit of research i am very glad i picked this up. brew time is crazy quick. after the first fill of the reservoir the heater takes about fifteen minutes to have your first pot ready. i've read a few complaints about the heater being too loud. honestly, i don't think it is any louder than a regular coffee pot in the brewing process. it is nice that there is no steam to ruin the underside of the cabinets. i have pulled the unit about two inches from the wall so that i can easily pour water into the lid. be very mindful that once you've added the water into the lid, do not close that lid until you have replaced the pot! you will make a mess immediately. i guess you can spring for the fancy water pitcher but there is really no need. it comes with filters but i purchased melitta filters (8 - 12 cup) and they hold the coffee better. the original filters let the coffee grounds ride up just a little too close to the top. keeps coffee hot for at least six hours. i dig this machine... update (nov 24) i have to correct myself - this speed brew has a stainless steel tank that keeps the water hot. i was under the (wrong) impression that it was plastic. had i really looked at the deets to this machine i would have seen that. i don't know why some people have an absolute mess of grounds when they brew. i have never had that issue. my filters are shown pre and post brew. my hario ceramic grinder takes longer to grind than the bunn takes to brew. and i'm ok with the "workout." something important to point out is that you MUST replace the pot before you close the lid. it starts brewing immediately and you'll make a mess if it isn't there. also, you cannot "prefill" the tank (like the night before) and simply close the lid when ready (like in the morning). the tank will not continue to keep the water at 200 overnight and you wind up with lukewarm coffee. i did this once and i learned my lesson. frankly, you can't say that filling it right before you use it can be an inconvenience. it brews so quickly that whatever time you think you lost by not having a timer or it being set up the night before is moot. i've seen other reviews comment about the plastic housing being cheap or not flashy. i disagree. last thing to add - i use it daily, full pot. about every three or four months i will notice that it takes a few minutes longer to brew. that's when i descale with vinegar and water. lengthy process but totally worth it. hope this helps and you wind up buying this.

I was super excited about this coffee maker, but in hindsight I should have spent more time researching the critical reviews. This coffee maker uses a unique displacement process to keep the water consistently hot, and help with the speed of the brew. I thought that was interesting, and had made peace with the extra electricity usage, but in actual use it failed in several key areas: 1. When the tank starts to heat, it leaks several ounces of hot water due to the expansion of the water. In my case, once burning my hand, and the other time onto the empty plastic when we had the thermal carafe away from the machine. Looking at reviews, it suggested the leveling of the machine (again never had this type of problem with any other machine). 2. It got quite a bit of moisture buildup in the lid, which seems like it would have become a problem over time. 3. Due to the speed the water shoots out of the spray head, I had an extremely tough time getting a good brew with the coffee. I brewed a pot using the typical 1 tbsp per 5oz cup ratio, and it came out extremely weak. I had to use more (almost twice) the coffee to get a cup that didn't taste extremely weak. This is caused by the water rushing too quickly through the filter. After wasting a double measure of coffee grounds trying to make a full pot, you could clearly see after it was finished that it did not evenly wet the grounds, and the water just rushed through the filter into the pot. Build quality: I purchased this after an excellent experience with a Commercial BUNN air pot brewer we used in an old office of ours. That thing was rock solid and made the best coffee. I mistakenly assumed that the BUNN name, and expensive price (almost $200 after tax!) would result in a coffee maker I could keep for 20+ years like the old Mr. Coffee unit this was going to replace. The second I pulled it out of the box, I was shocked at how light it was (and not in a good way). It is literally lighter than my 4 cup Mr. Coffee maker from ~ 20 years ago. It looks great, but looks and feels like extremely cheap plastic for the price. The idea of keeping something made of this thin of plastic plugged in 24/7 was worrying. The unit arrived from the factory covered in some type of white looking, powdery residue and fingerprints. After I tried cleaning as much of it off as I could, and flushed several carafes of water through the machine, the unit still had a hot "plastic" smell. Summary: It was a neat idea, but needing to change everything about how I grind and brew coffee just to appease a ~$200 plastic machine was more effort than I was willing to expend. Also when you wake up and are in need of that first cup of coffee, the leaking and quirkiness of the design result in a bit of a rude awakening. It is also hard to tell when it is done brewing, so you have to make a hurried walk to the trash while the last few drops drip from the brew basket. Unless you wait long enough, it will continue dripping from the machine itself. I did however love the design of the thermal carafe, but ended up returning the unit after repeated frustration and the leaking of scalding water.
