  • Great performance out of the box
Style: ENVY Desktop
Overall, this is great mid-range setup. Be patient and let Windows do the updating. Coming from an AMD FX-8350 with a 1060GPU, this is a huge step up. First time not building my own PC. I don't game, mostly mild photo editing, MS Office automation, PowerShell and Databases, MySQL/MSSQL. No issues applying BIOS and Window updates. Installed MSOfficePro-2021 and transferred the license with no issues. No issues letting the PC run for a week without powering off. One disappointment is the primary SSD drive for the OS, it's a WesternDigital (WD) Gen3 M2 SSD. The Read Speed was only 2500MBs. As is, this unit just works, great performance out of the box. Memory and Storage are inexpensive right now. After owning for 3 weeks, replaced the WesternDigital SSD with a 2TB NVMe Samsung 980 Pro with heatsink SSD Drive. Did a Windows 11 clean Install using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. No issues, needed to download the Intel RST SSD Driver. Got mine from the HP website. CrystalDiskMark shows 7000MBs Read and 5200MBs Write, confirming it's a PCIe X4 slot. Added a second NVMe SSD for general storage, a Crucial P3 Plus 4TB PCIe Gen4, with an added heatsink. Read speeds are the advertised 5000MBs. As mentioned, the second PCIe X4 slot is under the Graphics Card. This PC came with 16gigs (2x8) of HyperX Fury RGB XMP memory. The colors are nice, but meaningless when the cover is on. There is no XMP setting in the BIOS. The JEDEC table from the CPU-ID application implied this memory was running at 1.2 volts, 1596MHz Clock speed, with a CL Latency of 22. Had an issue trying to add 64gig, 1.2v, of Crucial DDR4 3200 memory, for 80gigs total. The Clock speed dropped to 1466MHz. Ended up using only the 64gigs of Crucial memory at 1.2 volts, getting the same Clock speed of 1596MHz, and CL Latency of 22. As mentioned in other forums, you may have issues when you mix and match XMP and non-XMP memory. MEMORY lesson 101: DDR4-3200 operates at a 1600Mhz "Clock speed". The "double data rate" becomes 3200Mhz. Both the HyperX and Crucial Memory were operating at their advertised 3200Mhz speeds, which is Clock speed (1596) Times 2. There is still one open SATA drive bay for either an SSD or Dinosaur HDD. Yes, I would purchase this PC again. EDIT: One Year Review: All good, all stable. No issues, no broken parts, no overheating, no regrets. That open SATA drive now has a 4TB Crucial SSD. Total PC storage is 10TB across three SSD drives. I also use M.2/NVMe to USB SSD Enclosure Readers for more 'near storage' space. My only complaint is that all of the SuperSpeed USB Type-C 10Gbps ports are located on the back of the PC, not on the top front panel. The USB ports on top are 5Gbs. Minor complaint, but worth noting for others. ... show more

  • Great for Lightroom and Photoshop after DDR4 memory and HD upgrade.
Style: ENVY Desktop
I added a 14 tb Seagate hard drive and a Crucial RAM 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 Desktop Memory Kit- CT2K16G4DFRA32A, from Amazon. HP does a great job providing upgrade instructions online, on how to upgrade all parts of this computer. (so I rated tech support a 5 star) The easy open case made the job even simpler. I was able to keep the original 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB sticks) for a total of 48 GB ram. I did not know if this would be enough ram, but it is. My old computer had 64 GB ram and it was much slower. I wanted to leave a review because I could not find all the memory upgrade info I wanted before I bought this and thought it might help someone. to add that info in the reviews. I'm loving this computer. For the price it's amazing. Side note: I've had the computer for about 6 months and the price has gone up a little so waiting, hoping the price will go down, may not be a good idea. ... show more

  • Good value PC- awful, awful, awful HP tech support. Did I say that they have awful tech support?
Style: ENVY Desktop
I like the computer itself - a lot. I think it represents great value for your money. However, HP wants to shoot itself on the foot. The HD tray used for an additional drive broke when I tried to take it out. Plastic tray was flimsy and just broke when I pulled it out. Not a big deal. This is a very small part but since it is brand new, I contacted HP support to get a replacement. Waited about 10 minutes for support person who seemed like he was not interested in talking with me. multiple minutes of pauses where you don't know if call was disconnected but isn't. Anyway, that was strike 1. Strike 2 was when I described what happened, he says that I broke the part and will have to pay for it. What? This is a part that looks like it was meant to break with one touch. So I tell him that I am returning the product. He says no can do. You broke it and therefore cannot return it. I laughed and hung up. Then contacted Amazon. I speak with a customer service pro who is leaps and bound above HP in service. Ann says she will take the return but if possible, she will call HP and shoulder the expense to make me happy. I say yes and she calls HP. Talks to HP support and everything is supposed to be cool now. HP will replace part and amazon will pay for costs. But then HP says that I need to ship the whole machine to them so they can put this part in. WTF??? This is a part that a user is meant to work with. I speak with the HP rep and he insists that it is not user replaceable. BS! I threaten to return the PC and never buy HP again. He is still insistent that an authorized HP tech needs to replace this part. So that is how I ended up returning an otherwise nice PC. And will never buy an HP again. NEVER!!! The silver lining here? Amazon rep (Ann) could probably convince me to buy another HP product. She is that good! Wish she worked for HP, though. In summary - HP sucks and amazon rocks! ... show more

  • Not bad for how much I paid for it
Style: ENVY Desktop
Honestly really happy with it. uninstall windows 11 for 10 because I personally strongly dislike 11, especially for stuff I do like VR. It paid itself off etc the 3070 it has, but on top of that the CPU it has is amazing! It also uses SSD stick for the motherboard. I paid a discount of 1,200USD for it and it already paid mostly the 3070, but then the amazing CPU it has as well! The only other complaints I have is that it only comes with 8mb memory so I had to upgrade it but I already had some laying around I couldn't use before. The power supply is a bit weak and doesn't provide enough power for the usb's, causing them to turn off. You can't add much onto the motherboard for some reason as well. You can't add 4 more drives onto it if you wanted, only 1. And the case is nice but not a lot you can do with it. All-in-all it's not a bad PC and I love it. ... show more
