I use this headlamp when camping and it definitely gets the job done. There is no reason to get a brighter light than this, the three light settings are just what I needed. The sos feature is not very necessary but I understand why it's there. I haven't officially tested how long the battery last but one charge will last me a week when I go camping that's just using it normally like walking on trails, not really needed when you have a fire. this light is heavy, but when you want a bright light this is the one to have, zoom in zoom out is easy as a push or pull, different brightness settings determines battery lift, but it will light up the world and at 300 yards you surely can see what you are looking at, the light cast a square at distance there is an x in the light, it will look a little canted but for how bright this light is that is not an issue. like it so much i bought others a gifts, good solid construction. plastic battery housing aluminum light housing. worth the money ... show more

    • Great light but not a runner's lamp

I bought this headlight with the intention of using it for running at night. I was impressed with it when it arrived - the brightest setting is very bright and the lowest setting cuts that back nicely for when you don't need the full lumens but want to save battery instead. And it fits well and is comfortable to wear (but read on . . .). The problem with this headlamp only became obvious once I started running with it. It has a hinge mechanism that allows you to point the beam up or down - a very useful feature and also a necessary one given that the on / off switch is located behind the lamp itself and you have to aim the beam downwards to operate it. However, as soon as I started running the motion of my head and the weight of the lamp overcame the stiffness of the hinge and the beam immediately pointed at my feet. Push it back up, down it comes again straight away, It was impossible to keep the beam pointed forward at anything above walking pace. I thought about taping it so that the hinge couldn't operate but then I wouldn't be able to reach the switch to turn it on and off. I did manage to fix it in the short term by wearing the whole mechanism upside down, which sort of fixed the issue but was uncomfortable as it isn't designed to be worn like that and also resulted in the top of the mechanism (now the bottom) hanging down and obscuring some of my vision. I'll keep the lamp to use around the house when there is no danger of me bursting into a jog but I'll need to find another solution for running. ... show more

This is a heavy-duty headlamp. It's super bright and exactly what I needed. I got this for doing things like taking the dog out at night and it's perfect. It's also perfect for working on my computer or some other such task where I want a focused beam on a particular thing to do something precise. I really like being able to telescope it so I can focus on a point or just give wider ambient light. Taking down a wasp's nest at night really required a powerful spotlight and this thing did the job. It's a bit heavy and the battery life doesn't seem crazy good but for walks around the neighborhood or completing a task at night or in a poorly-lit space, definitely recommend this. ... show more
