It comes with a 3-way bulb and it did the 3 levels of light maybe 5 times and then it went to only on and off. That’s just fine for me because I only need one level and would prefer on and off. I can put in the bulb I want. I ordered a second one and thought it would do the different levels but nope just on and off. Again, just perfect for me. I bought this lamp (brown metal), thinking I would most likely end up returning it, however, I’m pleasantly surprised! The lamp itself is just shy of 67 inches, it’s probably closer to 66in— so that is disappointing. The base is heavy enough, however, if you have animals or children running around, there’s potential it will tip over, but if you have it tucked away or in an area where there’ll be less foot traction, you’ll be OK. At first, I thought the linen shade was terribly cheap looking, but when it was actually all put together, it’s not so bad! I’m deciding to keep the lamp, and even the linen shade as of now. I was surprised when I saw the small box that this lamp came in and thought that it would likely be flimsy. It went together easily without reading any directions. The base is heavy and the lamp is sturdy. The lampshade was interesting to put together. The fabric part wraps around the top and bottom metal pieces and velcros together. After about 24 hours I couldn't see where the folds were and would never guess that it was flat when it arrived. I love that it has a chain pull to turn it on and off....easier to get to. One down side is that it takes multi-pulls to change brightness (One pull/bright, next pull/off, next pull/Medium, next pull/off, next pull/low, next pull/off). For me, I will likely use it on bright most often, so this may be a nuisance. But overall, this is a nice lamp, and I will likely purchase another. ... show more

I want to give this five stars, I do love it, it is elegant and sturdy, but read this before you open your package. The lampshade is easily assembled because the round metal rims snap into the clips, so don’t try to open the clip yourself. It will snap just fine. After you do the top and bottom clips the shade edges Velcro together. Also, the cord doesn’t hide under the base (tho an electrician can snip it and reattach, seems accessible to go under) it is exposed over the base. At the highest it does not give off much light; if you are willing to forgo the dimming feature, a 100 lightbulb is much better light, so I would not get the gray shade. Undo/lock the extension handle for the top pipe to be free to screw in. ... show more
