Description

Serge with confidence on multiple layers of denim, layered knits, and heavy- duty fabrics with this heavy-duty Brother Serger. The ST4031HD is a durable, heavy-duty serger that is made from high-quality metal inside and out. This is a 3 or 4 thread serger that allows users the flexibility to handle thick materials with ease, yet has the precision to work with lightweight fabrics. The Brother ST4031HD includes a high-durability blade made from carbon steel that can cut a smooth, clean edge though multiple fabrics without hassle. The strong interior metal frame helps ensure your serger remains stable on your work surface, even at very high speeds. The wide, detachable table built into the ST4031HD keeps heavy fabrics on a level surface with the needle, helping to prevent excess pulling on the needle and thread for better finishing. The Brother Serger allows you to get more serging done quicker by sewing up to 1,300 stitches per minute. To adjust the speed, simply apply less pressure on the foot controller to suit your individual comfort level. This serger works with either 3 or 4 threads for added flexibility. For example, 4 threads are useful for a strong overlock seam on woven material and 3 threads for overlock stitching on knits or suits. The color-coded guides printed on the machine show you exactly where to place each thread for trouble-free threading. The Brother ST4031HD comes with large spools of serger thread, sewing feet, a soft cover, an accessory bag with a needle set, 4 thread spool caps, 4 thread nets, tweezers, a cleaning brush, a hexagonal driver, a trim trap, a foot controller pedal, an instructional DVD, and an instruction manual.

  • Great quality machine. no problems with thick material.
Style: ST4031HD
I always try to search out high quality tools, for woodworking, autos, electrical and so fourth. I have very little room in my heart for crappy tools. I whole heartedly welcome this serger to the family of my quality tool collection. Great quality!!! ... I am especially fond of the ease of use. Took about ten minutes to thread it the first time I did it, 8 of those were learning and lookinglooking. Now it is pretty easy to thread. Love it, ❤️ The noise level seems pretty quiet similar to my other sewing machines, very acceptable, I am really happy with this purchase. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I uploaded a 51 second video for you. ... show more

  • Works like a true heavy duty serger
Style: ST4031HD
Really works like a heavy duty machine and has been dependable for the 6 weeks I have had it. I sew 6 days a week as I make and sell items using canvas and t-shirt material and it switches between the fabrics without any tension adjustment and handles both types of fabric easily and smoothly. The lift lever is super convenient for raising pressure foot. It came with a catch tray that the previos one I ordered and returned in two weeks did not include. A catch tray is just common sense and do not know why other brands do not include it. Being able to remove part of the deck is great for sewing small items that I would have to constantly stop and adjust the small small toddler skirts I make. I sew and sell items at markets and this machine has been reliable. If my other serger which is 12 years old should finally quit I would replace it with this same Brother machine. This is the first Brother brand I have bought and very happy with it. ... show more

  • I loved it right out of the box and it just got better!
Style: ST4031HD
I had a White 734/DW that cost $1000.00 in 1993. It never worked right. I was constantly trying to configure a tension with no results. In and out of the shop. After spending so much money I couldn’t get rid of so it sat for 26 years. Needless to say I was terrified of sergers. With this pandemic I started asking for donations of fabric. I was making masks for individuals and businesses. I didn’t want any money just a donation to the Food Bank. These first masks made 3800 meals. My first 340 masks took forever without a serger. So much pinning, ironing and measuring. Not to mention how bulky they were having to fold the raw edge in. My daughter is a sewing teacher, seamstress and clothing designer. I asked her to recommend a serger and she recommended a Brother. I got the Serger on the 15th of June and I have made 360 more masks to donate to a mask distribution center. Because of the new Brother Serger these mask take only a quarter of the time the old ones took. I don’t feel like a 1 person sweat shop anymore. Also the masks look great. This serger purrs like a kitten. It runs smoothly and provides an easy straight stitch. I love the side table. I am able to hold the fabric with my left hand and the garment is guided through easily. Honestly I don’t know why all sergers don’t have this feature. I like this serger so well I want to sew everyday. So much fabric was donated for this cause I could make masks everyday for years. Do take the time to get the Brother app. It was so easy to thread watching it being done. I also needed help from Brother because my accessory pack was missing. I didn’t want to exchange the machine because it did come with a sewing foot. To my surprise 3 days after contacting Brother UPS arrived with the missing accessories. My daughter who has a different brother said she is getting this model. Thank you Brother and thank you Amazon. With the fast shipment and replacement accessories I can keep making masks every day all for donating. Theses masks help feed the needy and go out to people that need them. They may also save a life. It took a whole lot of people that made it possible for me to keep sewing. I know this is very long but to get a machine of any type that you love right out of the box is rare. ... show more

Love this serger, we’ve made lots of projects with it, quick, easy to use, somewhat easy to thread if you watch a couple videos

  • Ah-mazing! Ah-mazing!
Style: ST4031HD
I initially wanted to buy the "cute" Brother 1034D Serger, which is also Heavy-Duty, built on a Metal Frame. BUT I saw a video of "yesguyssew" and the guy used this one: "Brother ST4031HD." I was sold. So I've had it for a few days and have tested it. 1) it comes pre-threaded in different colors to understand the different positions of the lower needles, etc.2) it's easy to use--and to change thread, just cut the thread there, tie up to new one and pull it through AND 3) the real test, it can sew a two ply of thick towels. I like to reuse the old towels to make them into absorbent rugs for our boat. I was able to change the stitch width, the differential (things I did not understand before) and presto! It is worth the money--no fancy stitching like a Janome, Bernette, etc. It does its job well (comes with 4 needles--two types, depending on the material you'll use, also some other accessories. Happy Serger user here! ... show more

  • Great Machine if you know how to work on things 👍
Style: ST4031HD
To start, know that Brother's warranty is a joke, a bad one at that. If you buy NEW and it does not work, they will make you pay to send it out or take it in person to a participating shop who will then deem weather the issue is covered or not. If they can/want they will work on your machine, if they cant/won't, they can give you a USED or REFURBISHED one believed to be in "as new" working condition. Read the print. I do, and called. With that being said. This is a great machine if you have it in working condition and keep it clean/oiled and take care of it. Simple as that. If you buy new and it doesn't work right, I recommend returning it 100%, get your full refund or replacement. If you buy used and/or not working. They are actually pretty simple to work on and fix, and it will only cost a fraction of the price. Again. I must emphasize the machine itself is great as long as you take care of it, and if used correctly it will deliver. It's the warranty that sucks. So if you aren't mechanically inclined or keep your equipment clean, don't waste your money. Some issues are just common on all machines and are as simple as changing the type of thread or adding a wax button for the threads to ride on. Others require adjusting the timing on the loopers, easy-medium. Definitely keep it lint free and well oiled (only the parts that need it)👍 Whatever the case make sure it's not a poor build or common mistake that turns you away from a good machine. This or any other. Good luck 😁 ... show more

  • Easiest Lower Looper to Thread
Style: ST4031HD
After 30 years of use my serger died. After much debate, research and testing of another brand I ordered the Brother ST4031HD. I can't imagine a better serger at any price. The lower looper threads in seconds with no fiddling around from the left. The machine is fast and sews through multiple layers of denim without hesitation. The one quirky thing that takes time to get used to is the presser foot lift is on the right side of the machine but not a big deal. It doesn't have a thread cutter but I just keep snips handy. Just be sure to use recommended needle size. All and all it's a great machine for a reasonable price. It has attractive styling, easy to adjust tension, rolled hems without changing plates, and, I can't say enough about how easy and quick it is to thread the lower looper. ... show more

  • Very user-friendly
Style: ST4031HD
This is my first own serger. Before I had some experience with my mother's old serger, but I couldn't make friends with it. I thought this type of machine was too complicated, so for years I postponed getting it. But when this one came, it took me almost no time and only one video class to learn all basic seams and actually start making things. Also, I was concerned that it may be loud. I live in an apartment building, and I can hear my neighbor snoring. So noise was important. The reviews were contradictory on this matter, and now I know the reason: it needs oiling right away + at least every month. When it gets dry, it may get noisy. When it's well lubricated, it is no different than a sewing machine. Just order some oil right away, it's really easy to apply it. I like that it uses regular sewing needles. When it comes to thread, it's kind of picky (which I heard all sergers are). I tried using some cheap no-brand thread from China, and it just breaks, while my sewing machine is fine with this thread. I love the extension table and use it all the time. ... show more
