  • Excellent All-in-One Printer with Incredible Ink Value
Style: Printer
This Brother MFC-J5855DW has exceeded my expectations in every way. The print quality is sharp and vibrant for both color and black-and-white documents, and the ability to print up to 11” x 17” is a huge plus for reports, charts, and larger projects. The INKvestment Tank system is a standout feature. Not having to worry about replacing ink constantly is a real money saver, and the included ink lasting up to a year is absolutely accurate based on my usage. Setup was straightforward, and it connected to Wi-Fi quickly with no issues. I also love how versatile this machine is—printing, scanning, copying, and faxing all work smoothly. The touchscreen is intuitive, and printing from a phone or laptop is fast and reliable. It’s quiet, efficient, and feels very well built. If you want a dependable all-in-one printer with low running costs and professional-quality results, this is an excellent choice. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • WOW this is a super printer!
Style: Printer
First of all, when you send a file to the printer there is no warm-up time, this baby just spits out the print in about the time my Canon took to get started. The photo quality is very good and it will even print 11x17. What's not to like. It was easy to set up and the WiFi works well. Scanning is fast and there's a USB slot where you can scan to a thumb drive. You can print directly from your phone if you download the app. I'm very pleased. ... show more

  • Doesn't Work - Complete Waste
Style: Printer
I've had this printer for three years now, and I can count on one hand the number of times it's worked and has actually printed something, and all of those happened within two weeks of getting it. First (1) it needed an update, and couldn't print until I installed the update. Had to contact customer service to figure out how to do that, but eventually did. This was three weeks out from getting the printer. Then (2), with the update, it no longer recognized my computer. Had to delete and then re-dowload ALL of the drivers and programs. Then (3) I had to get a new computer, and it no longer was able to connect. Contacted customer service, got it figured out. Then (4) it stopped recognizing my computer, had to delete and then re-download ALL of the drivers and programs, but couldn't get it to work. On its own, the printer printed out PAGES AND PAGES of "test" while trying to connect. At this point, it has printed more in test pages than it ever printed at my command. Even contacting customer service, it just didn't work. They told me to try again later. Then (5), I tried again, contacted customer service about eight months later, and was able to finally download (I counted) seven different programs just to get the printer to connect to my computer. These were not the programs included in the standard "all programs" download, they had to be downloaded separately, one at a time, until something finally clicked. Was finally able to get it to (as advertised) scan from the printer directly to my laptop without using a USB stick to interface. But that also only kind of works. I can't scan from the printer, I have to put my paper in the scanner tray, go to my computer, open the program, hit "Scan", and then it will scan. Then (6) it somehow ran out of ink. Don't really know how, considering I barely printed anything. Here's the kicker, because one cartridge was out of ink, it refused to print anything, even in black and white. According to customer service, all ink cartridges are used in some way when printing in black and white. And the printer automatically shuts down services when one cartridge is out. At this point, I can barely scan anything without getting the error message that it's out of ink. Even when closing out the error message, it won't go away, and other abilities of the printer aren't usable. Fine. I paid $300 for this printer, I can pay $50 for some ink. Order the ink from Brother that they says fits in the printer, after having to navigate the truly terrible site just to track down the printer in the first place. Pay $50, load it in the printer, and the printer "can't connect". Doesn't recognize the new ink at all. Look more closely at the cartridges, and the company screwed me, because while the ink I paid for is "compatible" with the printer, it isn't actually "for" the printer, and compatible doesn't mean anything because it won't print at all, since it doesn't "recognize" the ink. One year of ink is incredibly generous, considering I printed four items approximately three years ago. But, sure, I've had the printer for more than one year and now it doesn't have any ink. That is an incredibly accurate statement. At this point, I'd actually feel bad giving this to anyone for free, let alone trying to recoup money from it. What I have, instead, is a $300 paper storage tray that can sometimes scan if you install enough programs. Please, please, please don't waste your money on this. It's simpler, easier, and cheaper to just go to the Staples or the library to print. If I could give it zero stars, I would, but I suppose one star will have to do because I have, in fact, at one point, printed on it. Less than five times successfully. ... show more

  • I'm Very Happy. It is Very Fast, Has Refillable Ink Cartridges, and Is True All-in-One (w/FAX)
Style: Printer
Color me very happy with this printer. It prints pages from side-to-side, instead of end-to-end. It is surprisingly fast printing and copying. It can print 11" x 17", if fed from the manual/auxiliary feed tray. I chose this printer because I was happy with my prior Brother printer, because it has refillable ink cartridges, and because it is a TRUE all-in-one printer (many claim all-in-one because the scan and print, but this one includes FAX transmit and receive). I'm replacing an older, discontinued, Brother ink-jet printer with which I was very happy. I'm only replacing it because I let the prior one sit unused for too long so that I was unable to clean the print heads (I have now purchased empty cartridges that I can fill with a cleaning solution with which users have had good results, but didn't want to wait that amount of time without a printer). The only negative is that it is wider than my previous printer and doesn't quite fit the space I had available, but I'll find a solution. ... show more

  • Almost Perfect. Performs as described
Style: Printer
I've only had it for a week, but I love this printer. It's fast, the ink is waterproof and it should be very economical, according to Brother and Consumer Reports. One small quibble: when it's asleep, it takes a while to wake up with an incoming print job. I haven't tried the INKvestment service and don't intend to. Update: Not only does it take a while to "wake up" but it disconnects altogether from the WiFi if left unused for a while, and has to be unplugged and rebooted. ... show more

  • Fantastic printer, so happy with this purchase!
Style: Printer
We were shopping for a new home printer and at first bought a Canon. After 2 hours on the phone with customer service and another hour trying to set it up ourselves, we gave up and returned it. Wouldn't connect to the wifi, wouldn't connect to our computers, issues issues issues. We bought this Brother as a second try and just set it up in 10 minutes, literally connected to the wifi, our phones and computers in minutes. Also printed this photo quickly from my phone, the quality is impressive. Full sheet color took about 30 seconds, black and white in like 2. Absolutely 5 stars, would buy again and recommend for anyone looking for an easy to set up home/small business printer. ... show more
