20-year life? more like 1 1/2 year. why do SOME sellers LIE ALL THE TIME. This is ridic! I tried it just today with the same lamp i got from bed, bath years ago {which still works and i got it way before this one}. Apparently, the light part on this one STILL works, surprisingly when i tried it with the other one from bed, bath, yes the light/bulb part is removable, so i realized the problem is the STAND. NOTE: like what i mentioned earlier, the one from bed, bath still works EXCEPT for the DIMMER.

This lamp provides a lovely bright light and lights up the whole of a small room, banishing dark corners. However, I was surprised that the base, although quite heavy and solid, does not rest evenly on a wooden floor, but rocks - so much so that I wonder if I have a defective base? The unsteadiness is troublesome because you can't put the lamp where it might get knocked accidentally. At the moment I'm trying to decide whether the very desirable lighting effect provided by this lamp, which is excellent, outweighs the nuisance of its remarkably unsteady base.

It does brighten the room . First day of using innit was bright it was awesome but it dimmed after a day and now it's just...sucks...I've had this for 3 months now?

I just got it, it's only been used once so far. The white lamp is NOT WHITE. It's a greyish beige. If returning things weren't a hassle I'd return it. But, it's going in my workshop.. so design isn't that big of a deal. The beige color looks cheap. Like it should've been $30 instead of the almost $70 that it was when I got it on sale. I use it with a wall switch. It does work, but there is a 3 second delay before the lamp comes on if you use it with a switch. There's no dimmer dial (which I would have preferred, maybe I'm old fashioned), just a cheap looking button. I thought there was another piece to put over it when I opened the box, but then realized it was a button. Brightness is ok, not amazing. I don't have ceiling lights in that room, so I wanted this one to blend in with the wall (it's a weird beige though) and I wanted to operate it with a wall switch. The base is nice and heavy, and it was fairly easy to put together.

Great product but with one exception. I exchanged emails with Brightech customer service (and they were prompt to answer) about the possibility of buying the bulb part of this lamp so that I could have it on hand when the bulb eventually failed, i. e., a replacement bulb. Their response was twofold, (1) their bulb has very long longevity [a mean time before failure spec that met their interpretation of "industry standards"], & (2) if the bulb failed during the warranty period, they would replace it (& they have them on hand now for such an event). Customer Lessons Learned: Well as someone who owns a number of flourescent lamps/fixtures that their bulb(s) have failed, the odds of finding replacement flourescent bulbs for them at this point in time is very poor, to include that the company who made the lamps/fixtures have been out of business for some time; and the few vendors who sell flourescent bulbs have a great difficulty in matching what they sell with what my lamps/fixtures need; and basically they can't find a match in their inventory. I hate throwing an otherwise good lamp into the dumpster for the lack of a bulb to include a vanity in my bathroom with burnt out flourescent bulbs that's built into the wall; and finding a replacement vanity (which would now be the LED type) that fits (dimension-wise) that hole in the wall is zilch-yes, I could have it torn out and have any gaps replaced with sheet rock, rewired, etc., but such a "fix" just because its bulbs that are no longer made is several hundred(+) dollars. I am NOT a fan of planned de facto obsolescence to include that the life span of some of these manufacturing companies is not great (of the here today, gone tomorrow genre).
