  • Good product with bad reliability, terrible customer service
Color: Brushed Stainless Steel
I actually had to buy a second one of these machines from Breville. After that one died, I had a terrible experience with their customer service and tried to leave a review on their site. Unfortunately I received a note saying my review was moderated and not posted. So I'm posting here (where I also bought a machine). This is our third unit. The first one died quickly, and it was under warranty and replaced with some inconvenience, as in multi week attempted repairs which all failed. A replacement was sent, which died a few years later. Stupidly, we bought another one, as the espresso is great. This time with the extended warranty. However, it died within the original warranty period. Given Breville customer service does not work weekends,we tried email type support. 8 hours of useless "troubleshooting" with youtube videos they sent me, I took a day off work to call. Several hours later, after going through similar youtube videos, I finally near gave up. I was then allowed to send the unit in for them to try and work on. We will see how it goes. Definitely my last Breville purchase ever. Here was the response I received from Breville: Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience using the the Oracle® Touch. • Disappointed. Sad to be writing this review.
Color: Brushed Stainless Steel
My wife and I are coffee addicts / afficionados. We have often visited and lived in France and Italy. We are fussy about our coffee. We have owned several superautomatics, most of which made good espresso. But their big shortcoming was the wait time to froth milk after making coffee (or one had to use/clean a separate frother). So, after considerable research I decided in April 2019 to buy a $2500 machine. Breville had a strong reliability "built like a tank" reputation. 1. I never felt, no matter how much "dialing in" I did that the One Touch made espresso as good as the superautomatics we had owned. 2. My wife found playing barista to be daunting. 3. I could make her a decent cappuccino (i.e. one she liked) and myself a decent Americano but the espresso was elusive. 4. With the substantial investment, I was not ready to admit failure and kept trying. 5. In October 2020, the machine would heat to the point of the cover being uncomfortable to the touch even after it was turned off. Breville agreed to replace it. We were without a machine for about six weeks, and when our "repaired" machine arrived, it was not the one I had babied for 1.5 years, it was a refurb, with lord knows what provenance. It worked OK. 6. Even with more fiddling, still no joy on simple one shot or two shot espressi, however. 7. It's now July 2023. About six months ago, the machine started making an ungodly noise occasionally even when turned off. Advice solicited from Breville didn't seem to help much. My inference now is that it was trying to fill one/both boilers and not succeeding. Perhaps it was pump noise, perhaps a solenoid opening and closing. Breville support tends to tell you what to do, not what is wrong and why what they are suggesting will help. But over time what they were suggesting seemed to imply that the machine needed descaling. (I had NEVER gotten a msg to descale). So I descaled. And the noise was better, but we still would wake up at four a.m. with a jackhammer noise coming from the machine in the kitchen. So I descaled again... and again... and again. Then we got to where the descale cycle would not complete, the machine would not heat past 150-160F. (That makes it essentially a Stainless steel brick taking up counter space.) Breville's advice: unplug it for several hours, it will be fine. Nope. As I perused the internet, I read that the problem was either a sensor failure, a solenoid failure, or an air block while the machine was trying to fill either the steam or hot water boiler. [sidebar: the "home remedy" that worked for me was not the 45 degree angle for several hours you will find if you search but rather the "turn machine off, remove water tank, drip tray, and coffee hopper; turn machine on its right side for 30 sec, then its left side for 30 sec, on its back for 30 sec, on its front for 30 sec. That plus a few cycles of turning on and off get water into the boilers and restored machine to operational. BTW, you can get the machine into service mode where you will see error codes, number of coffee cycles, and have some other options by doing the following: a. unplug machine b. press on/off switch several times c. hold down on/off switch and plug back in while continuing to hold button down. d. keep button depressed until screen lights up and you will be in service mode with a request for password. The PW is five zeroes: "00000" e. the counter had a few error codes but showed that total coffees were under 2000. We have Ph-neutral reasonably mineral-free water and have religiously used water filters] 8. Once the One Touch was again operational, I first went and ordered a new superautomatica that will let my wife make her own cappucini with the push of a button. Now I'm writing this review and trying to think to whom I can give the One Touch who will want it and be able to cope with its foibles in return for a free Americano/Cappuccino machine. ... show more

  • Good when it works, but you will need tech support & they are awful
Color: Brushed Stainless Steel
When it is working properly I like the machine & it makes good coffee. Unfortunately it seems very prone to problems. Several months after purchase the machine would not heat up & we needed to return it for warranty service. They solved that problem but when the machine was returned it was very poorly packaged and the front panel was scuffed in shipment. We were without the machine for 3+/- weeks for this repair. It's now < 14 months since we purchased the machine & it is again malfunctioning. Intermittently for the last several weeks the machine will start chattering & leaking water from the water spout &/or steam from the steam wand. This happens even when the machine is off. We now unplug the machine so it doesn't start buzzing & steaming in the middle of the night. Tech support will not help you unless they can establish a video link and you can demonstrate the problem to them live. That is very difficult with an intermittent problem. I finally was able to show them the failure live & they told me to descale the machine. I did that. I was able to make one cup of coffee after that and 10 minutes later the steam wand started blowing steam full pressure while the machine was in standby. Another call to tech support and now I am told to drain the boilers, remove the water tank and drip tray and let it air dry for 12-24 hours. There is nothing in their manual, website or videos about air drying the machine to solve problems. This machine seems to have design problems given the many threads on coffee forums describing how to replace o-rings and replace or clean solenoids. We are still under warranty so when the air drying fails to cure the problem I expect we will need to ship it back for repair again. In the meantime I hope to find a reliable espresso machine to buy during prime days & I will put this one up for sale when/if it is ever repaired properly. I will not be buying Breville & suggest anyone reading this look to another brand also. ... show more
