  • Waffle Cone Maker is a light weight
I bought the Brentwood Waffle Cone Maker because making waffle cones in a pizzelle maker was not working out so well. This machine didn't come with adequate instructions, but it works similar to a pizzelle maker. I turned on the machine and set the dial about a quarter of an inch past medium. Once the maker's light is green add about 1/3 cup of batter (I use an ice cream scoop) slightly off center toward the back quadrant so that the batter spreads forward and fills the plates. Engage the lock. After a few waffles if the the batter contains a lot of butter, then you do not need to add any oil to the plates. Eventually the green light will go off as the waffle cooks. When the green light goes on again, wait another minute to a minute and a half and open the machine to remove the waffle. Add more batter and repeat. I remove the waffle with tongs and let it cool while adding the batter again and then shape the cone. I found that the cone shaper that came with the waffle cone maker was too large and so I just shaped the cones by hand. Also the plates of the waffle maker are too light, so that it takes much longer to make a waffle as compared to a heavy plated pizzelle maker. There is no audible click when the light goes on and off, so you really need to be present when using this machine. My batter was thick, so it didn't make a huge mess. ... show more

  • Definitely not great but ok-ish for the price
Very uneven heating. The edges get a lot hotter than the center and will thus produce uneven cones every time. The indicator light is really not helpful as it doesn't accurately account for the amount of time the batter has been in. Just when a certain temperature is reached. Overall not great, but for the price (on sale) it's ok as a novelty you won't use often. The recipe that it comes with is grossly sweet. Better to get one off a cooking website. I found I got a more consistent result when I listened to the sizzling, once it stops it means the moisture has cooked out and this will obtain the proper texture for the cones to be ready to set and harden fast. ... show more

  • 1st time user, learning curve
Keep in mind this was the first time I used this, and I realize there were going to be speedbumps. I'm just explaining my experience. ●Easy to operate. ● Would be nice to have instructions indicate how much batter to use. ●I assumed the batter would be pourable, mine was not. Once I got used to the batter , and got a feel for it & how much, it was okay. ●I suggest placing the batter alittle towards the top (back) from the center of the griddle, as when the lid is brought down it pushes the batter towards the front of the griddle. Helps keep spillages to a minimum. ●I oiled the griddle top and bottom in the beginning, and a couple times throughout the batch. Just poured some veg oil and a couple layers of paper towel and wiped it down. Keep the oil and paper towels handy. ●I found having paper towels nearby was very useful for wiping off my hands, oiling the griddle, and placing over waffles as I rolled them. The waffles can be very hot! ●A wide non scratch utensil for removing the waffle from the griddle would work great (rather than a spoon as indicated in the directions). The waffle when hot is more durable than I thought. ●It's hard to tell the done-ness even after peeking a few times. I assume the more you do it the better you get at perfecting it. ●All of my waffles were whitish in the middle, dark towards the edges. Maybe more perfecting on my part? ●On my griddle when the green light is on, it's hard to see it, it's a white light with a little green on the right & left sides. ●My waffles/cones are pretty fragile, I wouldn't trust them without being served in a bowl. ●When I turned it off, I never saw the green light go off, so I unplugged it. (After a few minutes) ●Overall: I achieved making a batch of waffle cones. I plan on serving them tonight, in a bowl. For the price of the griddle it's not a bad deal. I guess I had a few expectations, may or may not have been out of line. If anyone that has used this has any other helpful hints, I'd be interested in hearing them. Kinda fun. ... show more
