  • Excellent coffee maker that does more than basic functions
If you need to step up your coffee game but are held back by your basic coffee maker, then give this one a try. We ordered this because our old coffee maker could only do a regular cup or pot, while it was ok, it could only do one style of coffee. This can adjust from regular brew, bold, or iced coffee. Its a tremendous step up from our super basic one, and while my wife was intimidated by the amount of buttons and dial on the control panel, she quickly grew accustomed to it and now she is using it like a pro. This comes with a charcoal/carbon filter for the water which our previous one did not. This should improve the taste of your coffee by filtering your water before it hits the beans. Just remember to soak the filter in water for 15 minutes or more before you use it, and also remember to follow the break in/cleaning procedure before your first use as well. Rinse the pot, dump that water, re-fill it again, then place the soaked filter in the water reservoir, and the finally dump the entire pot in the reservoir. Turn on the power, then hit "Gold" (which is the brew button). It will then start the brewing procedure (without the coffee of course). This step is essential to clearing out any wayward dust or chemical particles from the machine and prevent your first batch of coffee from tasting like plastic or other unsavory elements so I highly recommend that you follow this procedure, and do not skip it. Once the reservoir is drained and the brew process is completed you can then turn the machine off and dump the water (or you can wait until it cools and then water a plant or something). To brew coffee normally, you can now adjust the dial on the front to correspond with how large a pot you want to make. You can make a small cup all the way up to a full pot. Just add the correct amount of water to the pot, adjust the dial to the same amount, then dump it into the reservoir. Now, choose between using the included gold filter or use disposable paper ones, but make sure you don't use both at the same time since they don't recommend it. Once you add your coffee, you can now choose between standard brew which is "Gold", Bold, Iced, or Cold. I don't know why they call it Gold, but that's the setting we normally use. Brewing is just as fast and easy as other machines, so you won't get any surprises there. Bold allows more of the coffee bean flavor into your coffee, and Cold and Iced are exactly as it sounds. Iced has an extra step in that you have to add ice to the end of the process. Cold brew you can drink after its finished and the ice is optional. I suppose there are different things it performs to make the coffee taste different between the varying brew modes, but I can't taste a huge difference between Gold or Bold, but I am sure some coffee aficionados probably can. It also has the standard feature with coffee timers, so you can program it to brew coffee at whatever time of day you prefer. Just fill up the reservoir beforehand, set the timer, and you'll have a pot ready for you. So far this worked beautifully and we have no issues or complaints. So if you need a coffee maker that does a little bit more than your basic machine, then give this one a try. We give it a 5 star rating. ... show more

  • Barista in your kitchen?
What can I say, this is a coffee pot and then some, manufactured by none other than Braun! A very reputable company that has been around for decades I believe. Usually can't go wrong with their products. With this product you can do the following *Brew coffee 10 cup , 7 brew sizes *Pod free drip *Hot/cold brew *Hot water for Tea In the photos I have pictured a just brewed tea with the hot water from this machine, there are recommendations for different types of tea this one was recommended for 100° to 212° and this hot water was delivered into my glass cup at 203°. I placed the empty cup inside the machine where the carafe would sit and I placed a tea bag inside of the cup then I pushed the water button and it began to heat the water and ultimately let it into my cup. It was the perfect cup of tea. I tend to drink coffee in the morning and tea when I'm going to bed so I should get very good use out of this machine for quite some time. You can Brew coffee in bold, gold, over ice, cold brew, hot water is dispensed independently and does not come in contact with coffee. It comes with a nice coffee scooper, a large bowl and a smaller bowl. It comes with a metal type filter mesh and a few paper filters, you do not use them both at the same time though only one or the other and if you buy filters for this you need to have a specific size I believe it's #4 and it has to be cone shaped. They're also is a charcoal filter that you need to soak for 15 minutes in water before placing it into the water reservoir area it , has a special holder for it and easy to work with. You can program the time, and prepare it for in the morning to automatically Brew the coffee with the automatic Brew time. Another nice factor with this is - that you can pull a little shelf down that is inside, pictured to the right of my cup while sitting inside the machine it folds down and you can sit a cup on top of that so its closer to the dispensing hole. The dial at the top has the different amounts and type of container that you want to use, like whole carafe, half a carafe, a Tumbler to cups which the ounces are labeled 5, 12, 16, 20. The glass tumbler I used is 16 oz and it filled it right up to the brim. In the summertime you'd be hard pressed not to see me walking around with some sort of cool drink especially coffee in my hand, this will definitely make my frappuccinos or just cold brewed way easier than what I have had to do before. I like it, it's giftable and it does a lot ... show more

  • Best Drip Machine I've Ever Used
I am a coffee snob, and mostly drink pour over or french press from freshly ground beans I've roasted myself or other high quality beans. I have owned many drip makers over the years but never found any that made good tasting coffee. It was a compromise I lived with because we only really make a pot of drip when we have guests over. This machine, however, has won me over to quality drip coffee. It's not going to be my daily drinker, but I can at least serve something to my guests I am proud of, and enjoy it myself. My first advice for anyone here is to read the manual. Not just the quick start guide, sorry... the actually included manual, cover to cover. If you want to brew coffee that actually meets the SCA standard which this machine can produce, you need to do it right. The other important part to pay attention to is the dosage sizing. I use a scale with the whole beans, translating from the scoops to grams per the manual and erring on the high side of the recommendation. The resulting coffee tastes great and is worth the effort! The good - Makes great tasting coffee - Paper (#4) or included metal filter options per your preference - Has settings for smaller volumes - different sized single cups, half pot and full pot (don't miss that there's a shelf for your smaller cups) - Cold and iced coffee settings (didn't test, not into it) - Basic functions like keep warm and timer work well - Drip stop lever setting - Water filter (included but will need to be replaced) for water reservoir - Stylish and very functional, well though out design The only negative is that I'm too forgetful to move the switch to drip stop setting before removing the pot. ... show more
