Description

The Atmospheric Vent FVIR Defender Safety System Models Feature: ■ Bradford White ICON System—Intelligent gas control with proven millivolt powered technology and built-in piezo igniter. A standard, off the shelf thermopile converts heat energy from the pilot flame into electrical energy to operate the gas valve and microprocessor. No need for external electricity. -- Enhanced Performance—Proprietary algorithms provide enhanced First Hour Delivery ratings and tighter temperature differentials. -- Advanced Temperature Control System—Microprocessor constantly monitors and controls burner operation to maintain consistent and accurate water temperature levels. -- Intelligent Diagnostics—An exclusive green LED light prompts the installer during start-up and provides ten different diagnostic codes to assist in troubleshooting. -- Pilot On Indication—Flashing green LED provides positive indication that pilot is on. -- Separate Immersed Thermowell—High-strength advanced polymer composite thermowell provides isolation between electric temperature sensor and surrounding water. No need to drain the tank when removing gas valve. ■ Advanced ScreenLok Technology Flame Arrestor Design—Flame arrestor is designed to prevent ignition of flammable vapor outside of the water heater. ■ Resettable Thermal Switch—Proven and reliable bimetallic switch prevents burner and pilot operation in case of ongoing flammable vapor burn inside of the combustion chamber or restricted air flow. ■ Maintenance-Free—No regular cleaning of air inlet openings or flame arrestor is required under normal conditions. ■ Sight Window—Offers a view into the combustion chamber to observe the operation of the pilot and burner. ■ Factory-Installed Hydrojet Total Performance System—Cold water inlet sediment reducing device helps prevent sediment build-up in tank. Increases first hour delivery of hot water while minimizing temperature build-up in tank.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product reviews for the Bradford White water heater show a mixed response. Some users praise it for its excellent performance and longevity, claiming it provides a constant supply of hot water and lasts up to 15 years. However, others criticize the product for coming with faulty parts and poor warranty service, with a failed gas valve being a common problem.

Pros

  • 🔥 Provides constant supply of hot water
  • 🤏 Easy to install
  • ⏳ Long-lasting, up to 15 years according to some users
  • 🔧 No need for regular maintenance as per some users

Cons

  • ❌ Some users have reported multiple failed units
  • 💥 Problems with the heating element and gas valve controls
  • 👎 Some units have been reported to come dented
  • 📜 Problems with honoring the warranty by the company

Should I Buy It?

Given the mixed reviews, the decision to buy this product should depend on your individual needs and risk tolerance. It evidently performs well when it works, providing a consistent supply of hot water and staying functional for several years; but be prepared to encounter some issues, possibly even within less than a year of purchase, and potentially deal with challenging warranty service.

  • great water heater
Works great and easy to install. We never run out of hot water now. I would recommend this and give it a five rating.

  • Failed gas valve control....won't honor warranty unless you hire a plumber. DO NOT BUY
So this unit was installed Nov 2022, Here we are Sept 2023. Pilot went out, or so we thought, turns out the gas valve control has failed. Called the warranty department to see about them shipping replacement parts and they won't even entertain the idea of speaking to the home owner without hiring a licensed plumber to come out first.....AND they won't cover the cost of the plumber! So basically a "15 year water heater" is working less than a year, and by the looks of it, is well known for having faulty parts, but you're stuck covering the cost of repair regularly. If this thing doesn't get fixed I'm switching to another brand name and will NEVER recommend them, as well as telling everyone I meet about what a bad experience I have had with them. ... show more

  • Installed in 2002, replaced in 2023
I had the predecessor model prior to RG240T6N, the MI40T6FBN. I kept it clean, removed cobwebs and drained the water yearly the first few years. Life had it's share of troubles and eventually the water heater maintenance was forgotten. During it's entire life, it never needed any service calls, always worked and never made that creaking banging sound pre-2000 electric models made. Basically, our experience was flawless. Our neighbors recently bought a new water heater (another lesser brand) and I thought I should replace mine too due to age. If this water heater treats me the same as my previous one, then I'll be satisfied. As it is, the Bradford White brand is highly trusted by many professionals and is a higher priced brand, you get what you pay for. ... show more

  • 9 years old & It still works flawlessly! Zero Issues!
9 years old !!! This Bradford 40 Gallon Gas water heater works flawlessly, Ive never flushed it!!! I’ve never done anything to it, yes, shame on me but it works great, NO Leaks, it just works!!! It’s a diesel. I am not gonna flush it either, I heard flushing it can cause leaks. Now I’m a believer, I think flushing is a scam. ... show more

  • Ours Lasted for 15 Years
This is the Cadillac of gas hot water heaters. We had ours installed in 2008 and it lasted for 15 years!!! We started noticing baths and showers were less warm (toward the end)--then an unexpected basement flooding killed it for good. I highly recommend this hot water heater.

  • Mine arrived dented too!
I just had this water heater installed today so I don't know the long term quality yet. Others have said theirs came dented. Mine did too! The company who installed it, warranties the unit for 10 years and labor for repairs for 3 years. The total cost including tax, installation and disposal of my old 30 year old water heater was an even $1,500. They initially quoted me $2,000 - which included replacing the wood floor in the utility closest and bringing all water, gas and venting connections up to code. I told the instillation company that $1,500 was my all-in budget and the installation company met my budget. ... show more

  • 3 Failed Water Heaters
DO NOT BUY!!! I've had 3 water heater malfunctions in the last 4 years. The first one, the water heating element melted, which they acknowledged was an issue, dumping 40 gallons of water into my bedroom. The 2nd one had the tank leak, and the latest one, 5 month old water heater, just failed at the heating element again. Their customer service told me that I will need to file this through my home owner insurance and they will talk to their legal department. This is complete BS and lack of responsibility on Bradford White. Because my deductible is higher than the repairs, this will come out of my pocket, again! This is a shady company that does not stand by their products. ... show more

  • Made To Fail
Spending today replacing this water heater that began a tank leak about 24 hours ago. The good news is that I am two months within the 6-year warranty, so timing is everything, isn't it? Here is the reality dose, which I imagine many know and will not be surprised to learn. All water heater manufacturers make tanks like this to last on average 7-10 years. Their business model is predicated that the average consumer is going to be installing a new water heater like this one at some point during this span. This is the definition of planned obsolescence, Usage and water quality are certainly important factors affecting the longevity, as is yearly maintenance. For kicks, take a poll of your family, friends, and work colleagues to see which ones actively maintain their water heaters each year...I consider myself lucky to have had mine fail today within two months of its warranty expiration. Like many other products today, manufacturing is predicated on average longevity determined by the industry. FWIW, I do like this product, and I requested it specifically years ago. I recommend it--with the caveat I have stated above. ... show more
