After my husband bought the PR 1000 he was disappointed with his leg workouts, just not enough weight. But of course we had purchased the PR 1000, which supposedly can’t be upgraded! Thanks to some comments in the Q&A section, I thought that maybe we should try adding more weight anyway. It was surprisingly easy to add this upgrade to a bowflex that isn’t supposed to be upgradeable. All you have to do is turn the rod caddy backwards and take the caps off of the last two holes! Now, if you want the back screws to go in all the way you will have to drill holes in the plastic. Also, the 5 lb weights are very close to a bracket and would have scraped against it if I had left them “as is” in the pictures I took. I have since put a few washers between the main “mast” of the bowflex and the caddy that holds the rods, so that the 5 lb rods don’t rub against anything any more. But, you could also skip all that and just remove the 5 lb weights altogether. So, in short, I was able to install the 50 lb rods on the PR 1000 without any heavy equipment. I can't complain too much because these Bowflex power rods seem otherwise just fine. They're very stiff, even more so than my original 50 lb rods, and they seem to be quite stable when installed. I put them in my Bowflex Blaze, by the way, to bring it up from 210 lbs total to 310, using the two spare holes toward the machine side of the rod block. I'm not saying it was hard to install them, because they weren't, but there literally weren't any instructions or anything else in the box, just the two rods. No screws either, which are needed to attach the rods to the bottom of the rod block. That done, I wanted to be sure to use it in several workouts because people had noted sometime in the past, quality wasn't so good and they got rods that broke upon the first couple of uses. Not so here, they seem fine in that regard and are really stiff, which I like. As for whether they're a good value for the money? Well...hard to say because they're not cheap, but where else are these available? So I needed them, got them, no regrets. My main reason for deducting the star is the fact they were just two rods in a box, where for what I paid, they should've at least provided the screws and a little written description of how to install them. ... show more
