After researching for hours, I decided on this cargo bag which fit PERFECTLY in my 48"L x 22"W hitch carrier for my Jeep Wrangler - it wasn't too narrow or too wide. Because I didn't want it to be a floppy 'ole bag, I followed Johnny B.'s review and built an internal frame using 3/4 PVC pipe (4 - 44" for the length, 8 - 18" for width and height, 8 - 3way corner fittings). The cost of the PVC pipe and the racheting PVC cutter was a fraction of purchasing an already made frame - not to mention the satisfaction of cutting and assembling it myself = enormous! Once assembled, it appears to have a lot of room for my medium-sized suitcase and a 12-gallon tub with plenty of room in height for perhaps a larger suitcase and other items. I got confused with the straps (still figuring them out) so I bought some rachet tie-ins (still figuring those out too) to make sure everything will be secure. I like that the bottom corners are reinforced and that the top flap covering the zipper appears to be wide enough to keep the elements at bay. Not sure how waterproof it will be so I'll be ziplocking some things or keep them within my vehicle just in case. It comes with a storage bag for after the adventure which is nice. The material appears to be pretty durable and I am hopeful that it will withstand my road trip from Washington to Arizona this weekend. I am concerned though about comments of the bag melting if it is too close to the the exhaust pipe so maybe I will take some precaution there... So far, I am happy with my investment and can only provide 4-stars based on my initial observations. Once I've returned from my trip, I will share an update on how the bag performed. ... show more

    • Works ok. Zipper failed on mine after a few years of mild use.

It is thick rubber and works just fine. Unfortunately, the zipper failed on my bag after several seasons of use. Will not buy again

The media could not be loaded. Like others, we built at frame out of 3/4” pvc pipe. With the frame, it strapped down very easily, and 4 straps was plenty secure. A handle on each side made unloading everything in one trip very convenient as long as you have 2 people. It would be nice if the put some comfortable grips in those handles rather then just a nylon strap. With some weight, those handles really dig into the fingers. I HIGHLY recommend some sort of hitch tightener installed on your cargo rack. I could imagine how horrible the rattling and shaking would be without one. If you don’t have a hitch tightener with your rack, GET ONE!!! I also highly recommend ordering your 3-way pvc joints on Amazon. I got an 18 pack for $20 shipped next day, while Lowes wanted $4.50 a piece for those things!!!! Anyways, we love our bag. It has given us SO MUCH MORE CARGO SPACE 👍😎 ... show more

I thought I was super smart, and made a fancy pvc frame ... only to learn here that I'm late to the party :) I like the bag, a lot. The zippers can be a bit of a challenge, mainly getting around the two corners. Something that helped, I ran a candle along the full length of both zipper 'teeth'. This seemed to help free it up a bit. I'm adding a small battery powered tap light, that I'll zip tie to the pvc frame.
