  • nice and compact, but super loud
Style: Compressor
I only have experience with an old Campbell Hausfeld 20 Gallon compressor that runs an induction motor, but this is deafening compared with that. I seriously cover my ears for the couple of minutes it runs periodically to recharge. After ~3 months of minimal use, no complaint about operation so far.

  • Works great so far!
Style: Compressor
I turned it on shortly after it had arrived, and it worked great. I did notice an unpleasant odor though. It kind of smelled like burning oil. Also, and this is purely cosmetic, the plastic around the pressure gauges sits pretty far away from the base of the unit like others had mentioned. Please note, this does not effect the compressor at all! This must be an older model, because the newer models have 2 changes. One, that plastic molding is now properly against the base, and two, the 2 couplers are located on each side of the gauges vs this one which are next to each other at a 90 degree angle. Once again, no big deal. As for the noise level, I find it very funny that they advertise it as low noise! I would say, it's quite the opposite. You might want to wear some ear protection if you're next to it. Bottom line: I think this is a great buy, and I would highly recommend it as of now. Seeing as I haven't had it long enough to know how it is long term, I can only guess that it will be just fine so long as you don't over work it. Remember, it's only for small jobs, not industrial. ... show more

  • Quieter than expected, reliable, no leakage.
Style: Compressor
I bought this compressor to replace a series of duds, including a "nice" oil-cooled 8-gallon one. My primary use is filling tires (cars, truck, tractor), and I've been using it for that for several months with excellent results. First, it's significantly quieter than any small electric compressor I've used. It sounds like it's running at a lower speed, so even better than just being quieter, it's less of a high-pitched scream and more of a lower-pitched, dull roar. I have no instrumental measurements to back this up, but it's noticeable and welcome. Second, and also welcome, the tank holds a charge. If the compressor kicks on and fills the tank while I'm topping off a tire, and then I turn it off and close the exit valve (counterclockwise, of course), I can come back a week later and the pressure in the tank is still where I left it, and unless a tire is fair empty, the 6-gallons is enough to top off a car tire with 10-15 pounds without even plugging in the Bostitch. Nice! Third, if you've used an oil-cooled compressor in cold weather (Great Lakes winter here), to have this machine just start up and run instantly in any weather is such a wonder. Damn oil-cooled compressors hate to start up properly in the winter, just when you need it for some plowing with the tractor that's been sitting for a few months since the autumn. This just works. Finally, I haven't used it with a nail gun or spray painting or anything like that, so I can't review that, but it's been a welcome new tool in the garage for everything else. ... show more

  • Runs very Hot
Style: Compressor
I bought this compressor to replace a much larger one I had moved out of my garage. I had an older Bostich 1.5 Gallon oilless compressor I had bought many, many years ago. It was used for doing remodels, but I gave it to my son for his garage a few years back when I retired from construction. I was really happy with the older Bostich (which is still going strong). So, decided to purchase another one. We have been lightly using it for a month now, mostly for airing up tires. I can report this one is rather noisy and gets extremely hot. With that said I'm not sure how long this compressor will last, maybe it will surprise me like the first one did. ... show more

  • Not as quiet as advertised!
Style: Compressor
I did a loudness test at home with both the crafsman and bostich sitting on the floor and me holding the phone at the same height above each one. The bostich was slightly quieter but not enough to make a difference. It was only 2 db quieter. The good: - Bostich has a better storage option for placing the cord on top of the unit for storage. - very lightweight The bad: - The cord on the side of the unit that connects the bottom to the top gets extremely hot - not nearly as quiet as advertised - you might receive a unit in which the top peice isn't connected properly to the unit (see photos) -couplers might not be brass Overall I'll still give it 4 stars! ... show more

  • Failed
Style: Compressor
I've used this air compressor only a few times, maybe 10 or 11 hours ran and it won't turn on anymore, maybe switch is bad. I've had it nearly one year. Can you do anything for me? How long is the warranty ?

Very simple to use, but is loud. Does not come with any accessories so make sure you purchase a few accessories.
