  • Review and Install Tips
Style: 6.2" BV9364B w/ CD + Backup Camera
Needed an affordable replacement for my 98 Maxima. Looked around for < $100 unit and compared reviews and products. Received it 2 days after my order and installed the next day. I bought a wiring harness adapter from NAPA Auto parts for $6.30 and a diversity antenna adapter from car toys for $15.99. those were the only things I needed (don't actually need it but saved time and effort from splicing wires/headaches/finger scraps). Removed old unit and installed wiring harness - no issues ( 15-20 min uninstall time). Next installed the Boss radio and tested before finishing install ( 5-10 mins) no sound =( a little Google searching yielded: factory amplifier (and power antenna) is installed in the trunk and needed to be connected. Once I connected the power lead to the amp & antenna - sound was established. Had a whine noise coming from the radio when playing, so I made a common ground location for all electronics in the car (to cancel the loop ground issue) and problem solved. That was my fault for not thinking it through while connecting the wiring harness. The rear camera also included a drill tap bit to cut a hole in the back for the camera - you only need a regular hand held drill. Connected the power lead from the camera to my reverse lights and worked great. connected my iPhone via Bluetooth (BT) and streamed great, walked away (broke connection and/or turn off radio) came back and it auto reconnected and was ready for me. This is a great unit for the price Thank you! IF YOU PLAN TO INSTALL YOURSELF: # get the harness adapter (its too cheap not to do it - really) # sit down at the table and solder the radio harness wires to the adapter wires then use shrink tubing - stay classy man # check your vehicle manual/manufacturer website to see if an amplifier is installed for your make model year - if you installed and have no sound and your speaker wires are connected correctly and unit powers on - you probably have an amp installed somewhere (trunk or maybe front pass door my speaker) # if you have a diversity antenna (has 2 lead ends in connector) you will need an adapter # connect unit ground wire with unit parking ground wire - unless you truly are safety conscious then the unit parking wire goes to the emergency parking brake wire but video playback will only function while the E-brake is on (FYI) # possibility of needing a dremel tool or file for the edge of the faceplate for your vehicle. the unit was just a little larger than the faceplate (at least for my vehicle 98 Maxima) Side note: I also installed a Raspberry Pi 3 while I was doing this and connected it via HDMI to AV converter to the AV source on the unit. great project with many uses with this setup. ... show more

  • Absolutely the best valued radio on the market. (Instructions in this review)
Style: 6.2" BV9364B w/ CD + Backup Camera
Im giving this head unit a five out of five simply based on quality/quantity for the price. Let me start by saying that this unit already has a good customer rated following which is why i ultimately chose to buy it. It is very reasonably price at under $200 and that includes the model with the rear back up camera (which is the one that i bought). Installing the unit was simple after doing a little research. There is a lack of instructions for installing the unit but i will give some simple advice toward the end of the review. After installing the unit i happened to be very impressed at the amount of features and the quality at which this product delivers for the price. I feel like the unit is much more high end and enxpensive than i had originally anticipated. The finish of the bezel is in high gloss black. The screen comes with a pre install sticcker with warnings on it but if you are careful at removing it there will be a second clear protective layer that stays on to help prevent scratches. The radio has a couple backgrounds that you can choose from (although most of the time the screen will be on the radio or whatever media mode you are using at the time). However you can navigate through the radio's features without disturbing your media playback. The screen resolution for playing movies is superb! I played a 720p movie from a micro sd card and it plays it wonderfully. Very clear and in high definition. Bluetooth connectiin can be a bit confusing. When you pair your device you need to go to the hands free mode or the screen that shows the dial pad for making calls. Here it will say disconnected. Click on the link icon at the bottom right. When you are in this screen make sure your devices bluetooth is on AND is discoverable (for android users). Click search on the unit. Your device should see a device called BOSSxxx (x being numbers). Once the phone pairs it will ask for a pin. Just type 0000 and it will connect. This should only have to be done when you first pair the two. The call quality is very clear. Just make sure you put the mic in a good spot on the dash to where your voice will easily be picked up when facing forward. It can be so clear that the other person may not realize that you are essentially having a phone call on speaker phone. Installing the unit is pretty straight forward if you are using the appropiate adapters for your model car (sold seperately). Buy that because it is worth the few dollars and it wires color to color. No guessing and no hacking your factory harness. When you get to your rear camera this part gets the lack of instructions. When you run the wires you'll notice that each end of the yellow rca cable has a short red wire. The red wire at the end that plugs to the back of the radio will tie into the radio's harness wire labeled camera. The red wire at the end that plugs to the camera needs to be tied into your rear tail lights to get it's power so it will come up automatically when you put the car in reverse. It does come with a hole saw foe the camera to fit in and the camera is very compact and inconspicuos. However, if you ar drilling into a thick steal bumper you should drill a pilot hole all the way through first before using the hole saw because the bit provided is very dull. Before you finish pushing your camera all the way into the hole, engage your park brake and put the vehicle in reverse so you can see which way the camera is facing (there is a specific way the camera must face). Also, there are a couple different ways that you can use your rear camera (such as having it on all the time) so do your research if you want to utilize this feature in different ways. When its all said and done this unit is extremely ideal for the price and functionality. The only thing this radio lacks versus any other high end unit is well in my opinion nothing. It works exactly how i wanted and even exceeded my expectation with the feel of its OS. I highly recommend this product! ... show more

  • It's not a Pioneer, but worth the money if it lasts.
Style: 6.2" BV9364B w/ CD + Backup Camera
This radio has a SWC 3.5mm jack and an external microphone, which was important to me. Good things; Works, sounds good, touch screen, RDS and Bluetooth. Pretty easy to set everything up, directions are pretty easy to understand, including programming the SWC. Inexpensive! I had no problems with DVD, CD playback (I grounded the parking brake wire so the DVD works while driving), Bluetooth works well, I haven't made a phone call to check the microphone that came with it. Has a volume knob, I love volume knobs. Haven't used; USB input or sd card yet and haven't even looked at the remote yet. Has everything that I need. This thing has settings to adjust volume differentials between the scorses. Bad, annoying and problems; The camera video wire is pretty short, I need to buy another one that fits my truck. The wires are awful thin, I think most stereos are like that now. Some of the controls suck to use while driving, like the night mode, although mine darkens when the headlights come on, I'd like to easily darken it more (or shut it off altogether). No back strap included. UPDATE: This doesn't work with my phone when plugged into the front USB Android w/ Android 8.1. The microphone works well, I have mine mounted on my steering column, so it's fairly close to me. Hooked up the back up camera. This works well, but there are a few things. 1) the hole saw is the wrong size, I used a step up drill bit to fix this because the hole was already drilled, if I knew this before drilling the hole, I'd have used the proper size bit to start with. The camera doesn't have marks for "up", so you have to turn the car on and have it in reverse (not running of course) to line the camera up. The rear USB also doesn't work with my phone, so I have no idea if the USB ports will actually let you play music or not. ... show more
