  • I can't believe I trusted a Boss product
Style: Stereo No CD
I needed the cheapest stereo to get some music going to replace my 30 year old head until, and I figured this would do because I don't need anything fancy. I was wrong. I knew Boss makes poor quality, but the price was too appealing. Installation was easy, and fitment was good. I don't like the center volume button because my shifter is in the way (Miata - small car with a manual transmission) and the clicks on the volume knob don't register if you move it too lightly. There is also not a positive, reassuring tactile response. It feels sloppy. The remote also didn't work well if you were more than a few feet away and not aiming directly at the unit, but who uses a remote for a car stereo anyways? But for $50 I didn't care that much, it played music. Until it didn't. It worked fine for about 3 days. Then it started randomly pausing the music. Whatever, I can hit play every so often. Then it started doing it more and more. Next it started disconnecting from Bluetooth, which you have to pick up your phone to fix and not just hit a button. Annoying. Then it started calling the last number I called. At first it did it a few times, but the final straw was this morning. It called that number half a dozen times in quick succession. As in it made the call, I hit End, and then it called again within a second. Not even enough time for my to pick up my phone and disconnect the BT On most phones you can choose whether it connects for just Audio or Audio and Phone Calls which solves one problem, but not the fact that it constantly pauses my music. Before my 25 minute drive was over, the Bluetooth stopped connecting all together. I was going to settle and use an Aux cable, but most phones don't have them and I'm not buying a BT adapter for an Aux cable only to play into my stereo that supposedly has Bluetooth built into it. I hate this thing. I'm returning it and moving to a Kenwood ... show more

  • Display sucks!
Style: Stereo No CD
Fairly good head unit, will play will (at least it does for me). Point to note however, once the ambient lighting is bright/ daylight...you WILL NOT SEE ANYTHING on the display screen. At night, it's okay, but don't bother looking at it during the day.

  • I don't think I could have gotten better for less
Style: Stereo No CD
Boss 820BRGB First off, don’t let the price of this stereo scare you off. The sound quality is WAY above what this unit costs. I kept the factory JVC amp and sub, and the factory Harmen Kardon tweeters, replaced the door speakers with some Pyles, and the Harmen Kardon stereo with this. My car now rocks harder than it did when I bought it. Pros: 1) sound quality – this thing puts out great sound 2) looks – it looks good, no matter what color you choose to use 3) controls – they’re easy to learn, and simple to use – I had everything down in probably 15 minutes 4) four RCA preamp outputs 5) AUX in, and Bluetooth – both work perfectly for music – works good for incoming phone calls, but Siri doesn't work - I don't know if it works with whatever dialing assistant Android uses 6) it wired up easy using the Scosche wiring harness for my car Cons: 1) the controls look cheap – worse, they feel cheap – the volume knob, and USB door feel like something that would be on an inexpensive toy 2) the USB input is pretty much useless – I put in a 64gb USB drive, with everything laid out in folders, and there is no folder view so you can go choose what you want to listen to – instead, you can only skip ahead 5 or 10 songs at a time, and with 3200+ songs to choose from, that makes the USB input useless 3) there is no Apple Car Play, or Android Auto, but I knew that going in, so maybe not a con so much as me wishing I’d gotten a stereo that has them 4) the colors – it doesn’t matter what color you try, none are particularly visible in bright sunlight, and red is the worst during the day – at night, it’s the opposite, with red being the only color that isn’t too bright to use 5) no dedicated RCA preamp output for a subwoofer – while it wasn’t an issue for me, it could be for some people Overall, if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on a new car stereo, this one gets it done. I’m happy with it. If it had cost twice as much, I’d still have been happy with it. ... show more
