Description

The Bosch GWX18V-8 is an ergonomic X-LOCK angle grinder that combines portability, performance and best user comfort. Its brushless motor provides equivalent 8.0 amps of power and greater efficiency that maximizes runtime and productivity. It features the X-LOCK mount, offering a wheel change interface that's up to five times faster than conventional interfaces. There’s an audible snap when mounting an X-LOCK wheel on an X-LOCK grinder. The wheel mounts properly without the need for a spanner wrench or flange nuts. The wheel is released from the grinder with the pull of a lever. This 4-1/2 In. 18V grinder has restart protection to help prevent accidental start-up when switching batteries, soft-start technology to reduce startup torque and ease into cuts, and overload protection to reduce the risk of the motor overloading or overheating It is designed with spiral bevel gears that provide smooth transmission of power to grinding applications. It also features an adjustable tool-free guard and an updated gearhead mounting collar, which is now compatible with all Bosch metal and concrete cutting guards. This tool features a two-position side handle and a slim soft-grip design.

I got this specifically for my wire wheels for welding. It works great for that and X lock saves me a huge amount of time. Takes 2-3 seconds to swap a wheel instead of minute or more. Keep in mind this as an 8 amp equivalent grinder, Bosch Also makes a 10 and 14 equivalent so this is their least powerful cordless option. Still plenty of power for most tasks, wire wheels, cut off wheels etc. Feels just as powerful as an 8 amp corder unit. It will run a flap disk but will cut out if pushed hard, that is really more suited for a 10+ amp grinder though. Great Bosch build quality as well, definitely a step above the Red and Yellow brands. I was skeptical of the X-loc system. The replacement discs are so much more expensive. However, its increased productivity immensely. Changing discs is so quick. It eliminates the need for having 2 grinders close at hand all the time. One cutoff and one grind. Just switch back & forth in seconds! And of course, Bosch makes a great tool for the job as well. Powerful, quiet and reliable. It doesn't seem to eat up batteries too quickly. Which brings up its only downfall, however unavoidable. The balance of the tool with anything but the smallest battery available makes the tool kinda unwieldy. The weight is all hanging off the back end. It still beats dragging a cord behind it though. It works on 18 volt batteries only. Though, the old 12 volt chargers will charge the 18v batteries without a problem. ... show more

Hard to believe 4.5" right angle grinder is made without a 5/8"-11 shaft. Not compatible with most discs, brushes, etc. And there is a $7 charge for the return.

It's pretty light for the power. If you're grinding anything REALLY heavy use one of the giant corded 15amp big-brand angle-grinders. They can do some fine stuff if you have heavy-enough gage extension cords. But this is pretty powerful for a tiny easy-to-handle unit.

I have a number of other (mostly 18V) Bosch cordless tools, but I held off on an angle grinder due to all the careful guidelines required to safely use this powerful type of tool. I had other cutting solutions, and a rotary sander, so I got by. Finally, I was motivated to buy and went with the X-Lock solution since I'm into reducing fuss and saving time. Besides, the X-Lock disc attachment is fool proof and checks off one safety concern. In a quick test of the carbide wheel on lumber, this thing really rips. I will need practice to ensure my cuts are as precise as possible with this tool. For long straight and deep cuts, the Bosch 18V circular saw remains king. For intricate curve cuts, the Bosch 18V jigsaw. For a class of trimming and demolition tasks (not to mention grinding) this Bosch angle grinder is ready to go. ... show more
