I was really surprised how nice these are for the price. The wood is thick and solid and these are much bigger than I imagined. Fully assembled I’d say these are worth 2 to 3 times more than I paid. Once I put one together I actually went back to my amazon history to see if I paid what I thought I paid. Everything fit right together and while I’d say it was medium difficulty to assemble, it wasn’t that bad and worth it. I really like the height, we have a split level island and needed taller chairs.     • Heavy stools requiring careful assembly

There is nothing cheap about these stools; they are heavy (37 pounds) and solid, with a very nice finish. I just finished assembling three of them, and it was quite a workout. The assembly instructions are diagrams, thorough and understandable for the most part but requiring careful study. All assembly parts are included along with one Allen wrench, the only tool needed. Unpacking the heavy (46.5 pounds) shipping box was quite interesting as the parts are well wrapped and nestled very snugly together with lots of cushioning material. Opening the box is a challenge as the flaps are secured with tape and glue. I used a knife for the tape and a putty knife to hack through the glue; it takes some time and effort. Good, secure packing does make sense as the box had to travel from Vietnam. The assembly proceeds in stages, and the instructions are clear as to the steps required. The screws are of various sizes and care is necessary to use the correct one at the correct time. The screw receptors are metal which ensures a good tight fit. The first assembly step is to attach the four legs to the seat swivel assembly and then to the foot rest. Insert all of the screws and tighten, but leave some play until the whole thing is finished and then tighten fully. The next step is to attach the back rest to the seat, and for this a table is required. I learned the hard way to not completely tighten the back rest and seat assembly screws as leaving some play makes the last step, installation of the arm rests much easier. After this step, completely tighten all of the screws. After completion, I installed foot protectors, Amazon 16 pack clear with felt bottom in X-Large. They fit very well and not only protect our hardwood but also slide very easily. If I had any sense, I would have installed them on the four legs prior to assembly. Very nice chair. Extraordinary value. I'm a pro woodworker with 50 yrs. experience. I couldn't buy the upholstery materials for the cost of this chair. The joinery, for a DIY assembled chair, is well engineered. I purchased 8 and not a flaw on any. These are massive and heavy! Solid wood, not finger jointed scraps, protective strips on the foot rests, seat swivel is not 360 degrees, it's spring loaded and returns to a set position. Wide load capable. Finish looks great, satin sheen, wood grain is visible. Nothing looks or feels cheap, upholstery is crisply done. I'm impressed, this Vietnamese company knocked it out of the park. Great example of CNC manufacturing, well planned and carefully executed. Not built for commercial use or bad behavior. Expect that the screws may need tightening with seasonal wood movement but don't over do it or you could strip the threaded insert. Rubber wood is a bit of a softer, hardwood species, it can nick more easily than a harder, hardwood species like maple. Phenomenal bargain. ... show more

    • Installing the seat to the memory swivel is very difficult

You may see videos that tell you that you can assemble one of these in 20 minutes. It took us overnight and more than two hours of time to assemble the first of two. The second one took the TWO OF US about 90 minutes. It's not just the time it takes to do all the screwing. Trying to attach the seat and back to the memory swivel is very hard. Every video you see on YouTube has a swivel that is not spring loaded. The Jones model with arms that I am talking about has this "memory swivel" feature. Trying to hold the swivel against the spring load takes very strong hands. My call to tech support basically ended in "well, good luck with that." On each of the two chairs that we bought, there were screws that simply couldn't "gain purchase" meaning they didn't seem to catch the threaded receptacle. I'm not sure how this is possible because I don't have a background in such matters. The barstools SEEM to be very sturdy but I sit in mine in front of my computer for several hours a day and a fear that at some point it is going to fall apart. I am writing this review within minutes after finishing assembly of the second of the two stools. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy these again. But make no mistake. Assembling them will for many people take all of your patience and much longer than the "handyman' types that make YouTube videos want to admit. ... show more
