I've been searching for a seed-starting tray that is 1) self-contained, 2) easy to use, 3) will last more than a season or two, and 3) doesn't cost an arm and a leg. These are filling the bill! They are still thin plastic, but better than the big, floppy 72-cell trays I've gotten, and they are indeed self-contained, since they have a tray so water doesn't drip all over, a clear top with vents, and even labels. The lid is thin enough that when the spinner to regulate humidity is pressed into place, you have to use 2 hands, one on the bottom to support the lid as the little prong is stabbed into the top. Works like a charm, though it's good to make sure you will really use it, because once the prong is pushed through, it's not coming out again. They have a nice taper, so that the cells can be easily removed once the plant's roots fill the space. Some might quibble that these aren't that big. That's true, but I'm the sort who'd rather re-pot viable seeds that grow, rather than waste huge amounts of seed-starting mix, space, and time on big cells that come up empty. And the truth is that 12 is plenty enough for most plants, with the space I have. ... show more

This is a very good seed starter tray. The tray thickness is of heavy duty, the separate cell tray seems to be of good quality as well. The dome is nice and clear and makes good contact with the tray. I wouldn't handle the dome parts roughly though as it does have a tendency to bend easily. Having a set of five allows for a lot of versatility and growing a variety of plants separately from each other. This is ideal for different germination times. I like the concept. I got these because people from my gardening group told me that peat pots were not good. For me the trays are small and I think it’s going to a little hard to transplant. The green circulation wheel doesn’t properly fit in the hole. I like that the dirt is not as accessible to gnats. So hopefully I don’t have the issues I did with peat pots. I do like the extra room that peat pots have. So now that I just planted and waiting on the germination process I will see how things go. The containers appear to be ok quality. I would just say to make them double the size so instead of 12 slots make it 6. ... show more

These trays sprouted my vegetable seeds in a couple days, so no complaints there. When I went to transfer them to larger pots is where I was a little dissatisfied. The pods are a little small so it was somewhat difficult to get the plants out with all the dirt and several of the plants pulled out of the dirt. But these a few times and they work very well. The trick to these is the first put the seeds in damp paper towel, and and fold it over and put it in a sandwich bag for a few days with a bit of air to allow the roots to start sprouting then plant the seeds in the trays. Keep the lid on until you see the plant sprout out out of the dirt then take the lid off or it will stunt the growth. ... show more
