I love bonsai trees. Every since I watched Karate Kid movies, I have wanted to grow and trim bonsai trees. Now is my chance. This Bonsai Tree Kit has the ability to start four bonsai trees. There are more than one seed in each packet of seeds so that more than one tree of each species can be grown. This kit has all the necessary things to grow four trees. Technically one could grow four trees of the same specie if desired to. The Kit includes three basic gardening tools: 2 different sizes of spades, and a rake; four burlap bags lined with plastic (so as not to drain too much water) with a hole at the bottom; four sod pods; four bamboo label stakes; and a water liner for the wooden bed for the plants to grow. It does not include any of the pots shown in the description images. The case that houses all the kit parts is a nicely brushed lightly with stain bamboo box, to give it that rustic look. It also has instructions on what is in the kit, a description of each tree, and how to grow the trees. What a cute little kit! I got this for myself after visiting the bonsai garden at the Huntington Library. I would've loved to have gotten this as a gift. It’s a nice side quest for my houseplant addiction. I love these little starter kits in general, but this one feels unique because of the variety of trees. I can’t wait to see how they turn out. What I like: - Comes with everything you need to plant. Each puck of soil is more than enough for each grow bag. You also get a lot of seeds. They look like they're in good condition. - Variety of seeds is great. I'm especially excited about the Jacaranda and Black Pine. - Grow bag is lined with plastic and has a drainage hole. There's also a plastic tray in the wood box for catching water. - This is a really easy activity for kids, adults, those who find it challenging to stay focused or can't sit or work with their hands for long periods. It's a really friendly project for a lot of different challenging situations. What could be better: - Doesn't say what the soil is made of. I assume it's coconut coir (fiber) like a lot of these kits come with. It looks like coarse coffee grounds once you wet it. On its own coir doesn't have nutrients. But sometimes they have nutrients added. It would be nice to know what the soil is. - The clippers could be smoother and better quality. - I don't think the tools are very useful. Easier to just use your hands. - It doesn't come with tips on how to trim your bonsai which feels like pretty important information for this hobby. I guess it's a few months down the line anyway. Other notes: - It doesn't come with the four colored pots in the first photo. - It takes 10–90 days for the seeds to germinate. - It needs to be transplanted once it gets to 2–3 inches. That means you'll need to get pots, fertilizer, soil, and do some research online on how to care for it as it gets bigger. This is a really great gift to keep in your pocket, especially if you snag this with the current 40% coupon for $24. Definitely worth it for all the plant lovers out there.

Not sure why, but for some reason, I have always loved bonsai trees. Over the years, I have owned several small ones. I've always done pretty well, with them. However, when I got them, they were already grown. When I saw this bonsai starter kit, I thought I would try something new, and grow my own. So, when I got the chance to get this kit, I did not hesitate. This starter kit includes all of the necessary seeds, tools, and accessories needed to grow the four tree seedlings, which include Black Pine, Locust Tree, Jacaranda, and Delonix Regia. I performed the easy to follow instructions, by soaking the seeds and soil discs, then sewing the seeds, followed by having good humidity and ventilation, and avoiding direct sunlight. Hopefully, to grow these four trees is as simple as that. At this point, I will just have to wait and see what happens. I can't wait to shape them. That is the fun part.

Fantastic little starter kit! This kit comes with everything you need to get your bonsai garden started. The kit comes in a nice wooden box that also doubles as the planter box. There are seeds for the trees, coco starter pods, planter bags, harder tools & shears, and plant tags so you don’t forgot which is which! The informational pamphlet tells you what you need to know about starting the seeds and a little I’m about the trees too. I think the price is fair considering it’s less than buying a developed bonsai. All the piece seem to be of good quality. I plan on starting these soon so I’m hoping for a successful germination which was my only concern about the product. For what the kit is, it’s great and based on that alone I’d recommend this set.

Everything in the box and the box itself is functionally part of the entire setup. I've never had or taken care of such delicate plants, but once I see results, perhaps I'll update with photos. The tools feel genuinely crafted with intent and purpose.
