  • This WORKS, if you read the directions!
Style: Bluelab Soil pH Pen
I read the reviews on Amazon BEFORE I bought this and quickly realized that the primary 2 issues that people had was that the probe holder wasn't included when they shipped it, and that you need to calibrate this after each use. Well the probe holder was attached, and I didn't realize it at first until I carefully looked at it and then realized that you have to unscrew and gently pull it out at first. There should be some solution in the probe holder when you take it out, so be careful. If there isn't a cap, nor solution when you pull this cap off, then you've got a defective product. I bought both the calibration solutions, AND the storage solution and was prepared when I first started out. I'll have you know that this product SAVED my butt in that the cheap "two-prong" old style PH meters said I was at 9 PH and I almost did some damage to my plants using the PH Down nutes. I used it tonight and it said I was at a 5.5 which is borderline TOO LOW! If you read the directions and take your time, this thing is INVALUABLE!!! I HIGHLY SUGGEST THIS TO ANY NEWBIE OUT THERE, JUST DO YOUR RESEARCH AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PEOPLE! LOL ... show more

  • Accurate When Used According to Directions
We grow 24 blueberry plants in our yard and like to monitor the soil pH which can really improve the yield when correct. Turns out, measuring pH is not so easy. The low cost probes tend to be inaccurate. This is a real pH meter that is much more accurate. However, there is some overhead associated with this type of pen. It does require calibration before use. In addition, there is maintenance requirements including making sure it is being stored in the maintenance solution. Finally, these do have a relatively short life and will need to be replaced after a few years. ... show more

  • why can I not leave 0 stars??? ****updated review****
Style: Bluelab Soil pH Pen
So I found this pen to be such a life saver. I loved the way it tested the ph of my plants in an instant. I went around my little nursery and was able to test them all. I had crazy results, no wonder my plants were not doing well. So they found themselves back on their way. They started to look sad again, within about a week and half. Something wasn't adding up with my mix, there was no way the ph should be that high and I should have to be adding that much ph down. So I recalibrated, and same thing. Who knows? next day half my plants appear dead. I tried to recalibrate again, this time it would not pick up right, the 7.0 solution was picking up 10 and the 4 was picking up 7. I returned and amazon got me another the same day. So I calibrated that one, the solution rang in at 3.1! I was p***ed So I think just got a dudd. I got this last probe march 1st. It started acting up 3 days ago, the screen started to morph to unreadable, temps reading over 180. Are you serious!? I use this multiple times a day. this is a huge expense as right now I am entirely self funded. I work on research on propagation of endangered native plants. There are downright impossible sources to come by at any rate, but to have them fail like this, from errors of a pricey product that I purchased to make it easier to restore them to the environment, this gets them a rating of 1. My heart literally breaks with each loss of plant life that I lose. I cannot just go and buy this stuff at Walmart. I am at a loss and have no idea where to go from here. ***update, I went ahead and got a new pen less than 1 week ago. this makes three in less than 2 months. I have had in the past 2 days, 2 seedlings that have never been cultivated grow. by changing the ph just a small amount. Ph meter worked great all day. Tonight, its not working, screwed up reading, always reads 7.3, will not calibrate. never ever again bluelab. The Dollar tree makes products that last longer. ... show more

  • Precise and a joy to own.
Style: Bluelab Soil pH Pen
I got the solution to assess the calibration of the bluelab pH pen and been detecting consistent data for water and other solutions. Perfect for knowing how to keep my drinkables at a higher pH so to balance my acidic diet of foods. In doing so, I detoxify my body every day and help the digestion of foods work as it should. In this age of modern polluting factors (a mountain of factors, really) our basic water and other fluids are poisoned by chlorine, chloride , flouride, and other unwanted pollutants. These products change the water pH. Our natural streams (with higher pH because of magnesium and potassium) are no longer the standard we evolved to intake. This other water, delivered via pipes or with well shock treatments with Chlorine isn't part of our evolutionary diet. So the Bluelab Pen permits me to make sure what I drink is going to be something I've evolved to drink that helps me balance the toxic effects of too much of one thing (acidic foods that need to be digested and distributed by alkaline fluids). ... show more
