I was looking for a replacement headlamp for my 8 year old Cabelas XPG lamp that had white, red, blue, and green lighting options. I hated the blue and green options and and only used the red 99.9% of the time and occasionally the white. The beam was super bright which I liked for walking to and from when hunting. Problem is was that you had to scroll through all the colors to achieve the red light and there was no “memory” mode. I did research on multiple replacement headlamps where I only wanted white and red filter options and came across the Black Diamond Spot. This light arrived and WOW. This light seems to be well made, and super simple to operate with memory and dimming settings. Only white and red beams of light. The cost of this gem is far less than a lot of other lights with the same features. It’s also waterproof to a degree. My only con to this light is that the red led is not as bright as the main white led. I’m sure I will get used to it. Highly recommend this headlamp to anyone who wants a quality, bright headlamp and a reasonable price. ... show more

I like everything except 2 things that makes it unacceptable for me: 1- Many times you want to change the angle or just adjust the headlamp on your head and you have to grab your headlamp so boom, it goes full light and blinds everybody even many times you need to just take the headlamp with your hand to use it somewhere temporary and always end up with touching the button. It is very sensitive and having a touch button is a very bad idea when you 2- The headband is always getting loose and needs adjustment all time and it's not easy to adjust while wearing it on your head. ... show more

    • Do Not Hesitate, This Is By Far The Best Headlamp

I originally purchased this device for my fiance. After we received the headlamp and we started playing with it, I decided to purchase one for myself. The battery life is simply amazing. I no longer fear running out of power, especially when I use the red light. The wide beam is helpful when navigating wide areas or dangerous terrain. The high beam is almost blinding, and that's a great thing when you are out in nature by yourself. The headlamp simply provides me with comfort in knowing that it will conquer any obstacle I put in front of it. The headlamp is very lightweight and comfortable. I have tested the headlamp in florida in a torrential downpour and the unit passed with flying colors. Like I said earlier, do not hesitate. While this unit is more expensive than others, when it comes to your safety it is best to go with something reliable and I stand behind this headlamp! ... show more

    • Tried Petzl Actik Core, SLONIK 1000 and this one. We're keeping this one.

Compared this one to 3 other lights. Petzl Actik Core and SLONIK 1000. Black Diamond Spot 350 is a brilliant light. Sturdy. Long battery. Smallest housing and lightweight. Aesthetically, this one was the best in my opinion. They didn't try to upsell the lumens with false claims like the others do. Love the dimming function being press and hold rather than pre-programmed levels. I didn't know that I wanted that feature. Also love the flood, spot and red light versatility (also with strobe capability on all modes). Wish it had the rechargeable feature similar to the Petzl but AAA's are easy to manage and perhaps more reliable when camping. I'd like the small mode button to be a bit more tactile in feel or raised or something so it's easier to find when wearing. It gets a little warm on highest power but not nearly as hot as the SLONIK. Nice headband that's comfortable and easy to adjust on the fly. Enough range of tilt to satisfy any need. Finally, discovered the touch sensitive side button to instantly switch between high and low mode (bypassing the press and hold dimming). Great value for the $. My favorite choice easily. If you care to know about the other 2 while you're here because you are also contemplating between the same: SLONIK 1000 I liked because I have a LOT of 18650 batteries that I carry for various things. So that would have fit into the family nicely but it was limited with features in comparison. Only a dimming spot light (pre-programmed levels). As I said it got pretty hot that I could feel the heat on my forehead while it was on high. I did like the detachability and the headband was nice. Comfortable and easy to adjust. It is clearly not 1000 lumens. All three of these lights were very similar in throw and brightness so performance is good - despite the lumen exaggeration. Price was very agreeable. I was going to keep this light until I noticed how warm it got. Almost made the cut, but I'd rather have a second Black Diamond. Petzl felt cheap. Housing was bulkier. Their claimed 450 lumen was no brighter than the Black Diamond's 350. I did like the optional rechargeable battery but it wasn't a priority for me. The design is not as attractive either for my taste. I liked the diversity of modes, but again, I didn't know that I preferred the press and hold for dimming instead. Price for this is significantly more (unwarranted). When comparing battery life, design, price and performance, I'm just going to keep choosing Black Diamond. ... show more

I have a lot of headlamps. I use one at least every day. I use mine for reading fine print, fly fishing, sewing etc. I've never had one go through batteries like this. I bought two. Both white beams have an annoying yellow hues in the center. The batteries don't actually "lock" into their positions. Never had any lamp have such a poor battery fit. Aside from that, it's a nice light. I ordered the Ledlenser MH5. See how that works out. Update : Wow, no comparison! The MH5 is by far a much better light, IMO. ... show more

I worked at REI years ago. LEDs are so much brighter these days. Without a doubt, this for the money, is one of the best headlamps I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Got this for night sky photography, the red light on its dimmest setting is plenty to operate the camera in total darkness without blowing out my night vision. And the lamp on full power is shockingly bright when packing up and heading back to camp.
