It's a solid toaster that toasts bread and bagels super fast. It looks nice on your counter. It's extremely efficient. The toast tastes good. I can personally guarantee anyone who reviewed this and complained that it burned their toast or 'set the toaster on fire' bought the toaster without understanding what it does, plugged it in without reading any of the instructions, cranked the dial all the way up to 10, slapped some bread in there, and expected some dark toast in 4 to 5 minutes. That's not how this thing works. You should have this on 4 at MOST, (unless you're defrosting a waffle or something) - you can run it twice at 3-4 and get perfect toast and it'd still take 1/4 of the time of a regular toaster. If you're doing something like a pop tart you can probably go with like, 2. Only advice I have past that is to not touch it after it's been used because it DOES get insanely hot after a single use - and the first time you use it it will emit a weird smell, but it's gone completely after the first use. Sacrifice a piece of bread if you're worried, but honestly the toast tasted fine to me, so you'd probably be okay. TLDR; the people complaining about this thing are using it like a regular toaster instead of a high-powered toasting monster ... show more

I recently replaced my overpriced, underperforming toaster with the BLACK+DECKER Rapid Toast 2-Slice Toaster, and what a difference! This little toaster lives up to its name – it's incredibly fast. It did take a few tries to find the sweet spot on the dial for my preferred level of toastiness, but once I figured it out, I've been enjoying perfectly golden-brown toast every morning. What I love most is how it toasts bagels. The outside gets perfectly crisp and crunchy, while the inside stays soft and chewy. Where do I start? I can say it is an attractive, extremely well made fit of SS materials and it ends there. in this new world of AI I suppose companies are left with complete idiots as designers and engineers. Right out of the box when I noticed how the crumb tray operated I formed an opinion, boy thats going to make a mess! why it doesn't have a tray that slides out like I assume all modern day toasters have is beyond me. Next is the bagel function that the toaster boast of having, well it doesn't. What is has is a button thats non functional. normally the top of a toaster has stamped into it's metal components an icon of a bagel with cut sides in towards center of toaster. This toaster has warnings "hot surfaces" in three languages, excuse me there at Black+Decker, question, is that for your idiots? Myself, I know not to touch metal surfaces that cook, learned that when I was a baby, has stuck with me ever sense! It would have been nice, in my opinion, if Black+Decker would have put this toaster through the simple test of functionality, they too would have discovered these two important functions of a simple appliance, A non working bagel setting with a useless crumb tray. If you are looking to buy an attractive toaster that does not do bagels the way bagels are meant to be toasted and you can live with the flawed crumb tray get the toaster. for You there at Black+Decker, send this one back to design and get it right this time! After 30 years our toaster finally shorted out. I initially didn't pay attention to the wattage of the replacement toaster. After 2 mos. of slow roasting our toast into croutons, I decided to find a better toaster. I had purchased an 850 watt toaster and it took forever to toast and it just dried out the bread. I believe this Black & Decker Rapid Toast is 1200 watts. When you look into the toast slots you see what looks like twice the heating elements as the lower wattage toaster. This higher wattage toaster is exactly what is needed to make the perfect toast we were used to. Hard to image why a lower watt toaster would even be produced.
