I thought it would be MORE COMPACT than it is. I wanted something larger than a craft iron and smaller than mid-size. It's hard to visualize size and weight until it's in your hands. I have learned through the years from other quilters, sometimes the least expensive irons are the lightest and hottest and cause less problems. My 25 year old Black and Decker iron just bit the dust. This iron appeared to be the closest match to it, and it is. Not too heavy, does what i need it to without a lot of extraneous bells and whistles, all for a very reasonable price. I would recommend it.
