I sew bags, purses, and clothes. A dependable hot steam iron is an absolute necessity. For my last iron, I had a great little cordless iron. Only problem is it wouldn't get or stay quite hot enough, even though it had plenty of steam. My new Oliso in sunny yellow (yay!) gets REALLY hot. Hot enough to use on 100% cotton and actually get all the wrinkles out. It also has plenty of steam. I have noticed that it steams better when I keep the water filled close to the maximum level marked conveniently on the iron, so I keep it pretty full. I like the little filling cup it came with. I keep a gallon jug of tap water in my sewing room and pour it into the filling cup, which makes it super easy to get it into the iron with no spills. I live where the water is fairly hard, but tap water works great in this iron. I have occasionally seen it "spit" out little tiny pieces of what I assume is calcium from the hard water, but that is rare, and easily brushed off. Most irons I've ever owned have done this. One very good thing is that it NEVER leaks. I was lucky to get it at 20% off during Amazon days, but I would have bought it at full price if I had to. It works really well and I am glad I have it. Oh - almost forgot the best feature! I LOVE how it goes up and down at just a touch of my hand! If I'm ironing and have to stop, I can just let go of it and it rises up off of the fabric. No scorching, ever! And talk about convenience! When I take it off whatever I'm ironing, I just slide it to one side and let go. I don't have to lift it up and set it on its heel (although it will sit on its heel if you want it to). This is the best iron I've ever owned and I would recommend it to anyone.

This is my second Oliso. My first one lasted 10 years. I tried the Panasonic cordless and didn’t like it. The Oliso gets very hot and I’ve always lived that it lifts off the table when you let go of it. The only thing I wish they hadn’t changed is the elimination of the on off switch. The light on the iron stays on no matter what and you have to unplug it to get it to turn off. I don’t like that. If the iron is completely off the light should not be on. But the performance of the iron is great. I don’t put water in my irons; I know a lot of people do but I just keep a misting bottle on my ironing station. I think it extends the life of the iron.

The box I received looked great, until I opened it. It was pretty clear the iron had already been used, with some of the internal packing components torn or missing. The iron also had dirty smudges on it, and some water left in it's tank. It would not turn on when plugged in. I'm trying to exchange it for a new one, I'll update this review when I receive it. EDIT - I got the replacement iron, and it is lovely! I use it for quilting, and it works great. I particularly love the large opening and funnel for refilling the water tank. So much nicer than my old iron! ADDITIONAL EDIT - Okay, I've now had and used this iron for about 4 months. I'm no longer so impressed. The auto-lift function started acting up and being unreliable some 6 weeks ago. Now it pretty much just never works. So I always have to sit the iron on it's side. This iron also spits/leaks water on my fabric just as often as every other iron I've ever had. That being said, I do still like how quickly it heats and the size and ease of filling the water tank is nicer than any other iron I've owned. But personally I won't ever buy this brand again. Way too expensive for the main feature on it to stop working after only a couple months.

I bought this through amazon on a thirty dollar off deal. When I received it, it was i'm not working. Made me question if that's how they flush out their damaged units. Amazon could not do anything except refund. My money and said they could not exchange it because there weren't any deals left. This left me dealing with oliso directly. All in all was not a terrible experience. Was shipped a new one within a week upon return of damaged unit. This iron, definitely, it's worth the money as far as function. I had been dealing with cheap irons, and when the deal came up, I grabbed one.

This is my third Oliso iron. I bought my first one from Sharper Image over 20 years ago - it lasted quite a while and worked very well. The second one served me for over 10 years before it finally gave out, so I’m hoping this new model will hold up just as well. It’s unfortunate that Oliso has raised the price to more than double the original. I understand that prices go up over time, but there are plenty of good irons available for much less. In my case, though, my wife often forgets to flip the iron upright between garments, so I keep coming back to Oliso, as it’s the only brand I’ve found with an automatic lift feature. The iron itself performs well, and the Auto-Lift function is excellent. This new model uses a “Diamond Ceramic” soleplate, which feels like some type of coating, though I’m not completely sure. In my opinion, the older stainless steel version glided more smoothly across fabric, but this one is still not too bad. I also love the extra-long 12-foot cord, a big improvement over the old 8-foot version. The iron heats up quickly, and the variable temperature control knob works well. I like that it’s positioned on the handle, making it easier to access than the under-handle design most other brands use. Steam production is OK, though I do feel the older version performed a bit better in that area. What I really dislike about this new version is that Oliso removed the option to disable the Auto-Lift feature. While that function is a must for my wife, I always used to turn it off when I ironed. Time will tell if I get used to it, but I may end up buying a separate iron for myself. To summarize: I recommend this iron if the Auto-Lift feature is important to you. Otherwise, there are plenty of more affordable irons out there that perform just as well, or better, for the price.
