The water tank isn't removable so have fun not being able to thoroughly clean it potentially leaving mold to form. The fan they use is VERY loud, not sure why it's tagged as being "quiet." Whats even worse about it being loud is it's VERY weak, it sounds like it's doing a lot when really, it's not blowing air anywhere near as good as it sounds like it is. If you overfill it slightly, it will start leaking INTO the fan housing where the electronics are also housed. Lastly, I'm only able to keep it on max fan speed for about 15 minutes before it turns itself off and blinks a few times.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: The BLACK+DECKER Desktop Air Cooler (BDMC10) is a compact powerhouse that brings a pleasant, misty chill to personal workspaces. Its 0.5 L water tank cools quickly, and with three fan speeds, it’s easy to dial in comfort for your desk, bedside, or home office. The cooling effect is noticeably better than a standard fan, perfect for dry or stuffy rooms. I appreciate how lightweight and portable it is, it’s easy to move around, and the simple controls are intuitive. The unit also includes a basic filter to trap dust, which is a nice extra for allergen-conscious users. On the downside, the water tank needs frequent refilling—roughly every 4–5 hours on high speed and the mist can sometimes leave a slight damp spot nearby, so I keep a coaster or cloth under it. Also, it’s best used in well-ventilated spaces, as the evaporative cooling is less effective in high humidity. Overall, this cooler is a solid pick if you’re after affordable, breezy comfort in smaller spaces. It’s not a full-room air conditioner, but it shines at providing personal cooling when you need it most.

I tend to be a fan of Black and Decker's stuff, but this was a significant disappointment. Quick notes: 1) the water reservoir is super small, difficult to see through the window for whether it's full or not, and exhausts quickly. 2) i bought it on April 30. It's June 10. It shorted out today and will no longer function. 3) The "coolness" output was questionable. It honestly was not much better than a regular desk fan. 4) If you overfill it, the water moves immediately to the fan blades and sputters all over your desk (or wherever you have it). I had a competitor's cooler for a little over a year and thought that it wasn't a great purchase, but this one is worse by all metrics. I still love my Black & Decker home drill and other products, but this one needs more work from Product Development before it should be broadly distributed.

In hindsight it works okay, however the lack of a pump means that the pad in the back of the unit will only absorb water about halfway up, and evaporates from that point, reducing the total effectiveness of cooling through latent heat efficiency where airflow is concerned. Black & Decker would've been better off designing the unit with a submersible pump design that lets the water flow from the top down - like traditional evaporative cooling units. If they fix this in a new design and keep the price reasonable in the near future, I'll buy another one. Noise levels? It's tolerable. Fan power? Good. Fairly simple design, let down by an afterthought.

I really wanted to love this portable mini A/C because the size is perfect and it’s super convenient to move around. It’s also easy to set up and doesn’t take up much space, which I appreciate. However, the cooling performance needs improvement. The air comes out cool, but only on and off, so it doesn’t stay consistently cold. Because of that, it doesn’t cool the room as effectively as I expected. I think this could be a great product with some adjustments to make the airflow more steady and reliable. For now, it works okay for short periods or very small spaces, but it didn’t fully meet my expectations.

Highly disappointed. Stopped cooling after two weeks. Fan works however using the water part of the product does not work anymore. Does not feel sturdy. Unsure about battery life, I kept it plugged in. When it did cool properly it was very nice! A little louder than expected but tolerable.

This is a desk fan, NOT a mini air conditioner. That said, it blows somewhat cooler air than a simple fan, which is fantastic at this price point. Its reasonably quiet at low speed, though fairly loud at high speed. As you would expect. There was no assembly, and setup was very easy. I seriously considered rating it only 4 stars, as it requires a lot of water while operating. It runs out of water in around 4 hours of continual use at the lowest level. This is a drawback. Another drawback is that it is very hard to see how much water remains, due to an odd design flaw. Despite these drawbacks it merits 5 stars because as a desk fan at this price point it is remarkably good.
