Would buy this oven again as it has all the features I wanted

I had a specific list of features that I wanted in my oven and this model had them all. I also took a chance and purchased mine from the used category, but it was pretty much like new, and didn't appear to be used at all. There were a couple of very slight dents on the top, but they were relatively unnoticeable unless you were looking for them at an angle. You can't beat the price as it was 50% off the regular retail. It came with a tray and roasting drip pan, which was a plus since I won't have to purchase them separately. It can be difficult to gauge the size of an item from looking at a picture even when they provide you the measurements. This is quite a large toaster convection oven, and is very roomy inside. Yet, it's not very heavy so I can easily move it around. The front door drops down completely. It does not have one of those hinges that automatically close (retract). Personally, I love the digital readouts because they are easier for me to see and this one is larger than some of the others. I can't comment on temperature accuracy at this time, but I ordered an oven thermometer so I can check the temperature to make sure it's accurate. I didn't buy this oven for cooking food although I may just buy another for the kitchen. I plan to use it for polymer clay crafts, and temperature accuracy is a must have. Nonetheless, it has to be better than my gas oven as I'm always fiddling with the dial to try at get it at the right temperature. I love having the timer and auto-shut-off feature because I get busy and forget. The one thing I didn't like was a very short power cord. I'm not sure why they would do this, but the product manual stated that they made it shorter to prevent the cord from getting entangled or tripping over a longer cord. Not sure how someone could trip over it if it’s up ion a counter. If you are thinking about buying this oven you need to consider whether they have a space on the counter near an electrical outlet or use a heavy duty grounded extension. As mentioned by others the exterior does get very hot, but I had the same issue with my Delonghi Toaster Convection Oven so I'm used to protecting my hands, and keeping other items way from the oven when in use. I keep my oven mitts next to the oven to remind me to use them whenever I use the oven. The stainless steel exterior is quite nice looking, and has stylish curves. I think that the top of the oven will be subject to dents as the metal seem a little thin on top. I wouldn't be putting things on top, which you shouldn't anyway because of the heat issues. The crumb tray slides in underneath the door so you don't have to open the oven to clean the tray. I haven't quite decided whether this is good idea or not. The one thing that comes to mind if something is too large to fit through the crumb tray opening it could fall off on the oven floor. However I like having a removable crumb tray to keep the oven clean. There are four glass tube heating elements in this oven, and they are quite large compared to my Delonghi, which was four metal tubes not much thicker that my chopsticks in diameter. Price wise it made more sense to buy a toaster convection oven because it does so much more. The size of this oven allows you to cook just about anything. I can cook a casserole, roast a chicken, and bake as well. My daughter already baked her brownies, and they came out perfect. Overall, I love this oven, and would buy it again. ... show more

Great lil oven but read the manual!

I had to replace my toaster oven after a move and realizing the old one cracked. After doing some research we opted on this model due to it being able to fit a 9x13 (without handles) & the size and reviews which were great. We’re used to the old school knobs and trying to toast the next day was a bit of a learning curve since we hadn’t read the manual (read the manual for some important details). We figured it out soon enough simply need to adjust toast or bagel settings asap when choosing toast or bagel. We like it lightly toasted and prefer level 2-3 but it goes all the way up to 7! It heats evenly and pretty fast too (cold pizza was ready in about 5 min at 350’ ). So far so good. The oven does get VERY HOT on the outside so don’t put anything on top or the sides and be careful if you’ve got kids or pets. I find the door handle to be safe to open without an oven mitt but it stays hot for awhile just be aware. ... show more

If you have long experience using toaster ovens as a substitute for a large oven, skip this review. If you are considering buying one for the first time, read on, because that's where I'm coming from. We bought a condo that came with an old Black and Decker toaster oven, which was maybe 20 years old. I liked how it toasted; that was all I used it for cuz in my whole life of 50+ years I'd never owned a toaster oven. Then the daughter-in-law got a large toaster oven and was cooking meals in it, and I thought, well heck, there's only two of us, maybe I'll give this a try! So I read a lot of reviews and picked this one. It is quite a learning curve to figure out this oven. Hubby actually resorted to reading the manual (enough said, am I right ladies?). Push this button first, then that one, then another one or two if you want to do this or that. Annnnnnyway, eventually we figured it out. Pros: Seems well built. Beautifully, evenly browns and toasts. It can toast six pieces of bagel or bread at one time if you squish them together. I love setting the temp/time, shoving something in there like a casserole, and then walking away and not having to check it anymore; oven turns itself off when time is done. I usually put the food in before the preheat cycle is over (which takes FOREVER by the way), because the timer will not start until the oven reaches desired temperature. This is a big improvement over my large oven. Timer bell on this oven, however, is not very loud; even in the next room I often cannot hear it go off. But at least my food's not burning if I forget it. Cons: Like everyone else said, the door has no spring-loading so it comes crashing down on the counter if you let go of it. Front of door is very hot to the touch so it gets awkward ... you've got a hot pad on your hand, you grab the handle, you open the door as far as you can, and now your hand/hot pad is between the door and the counter. Pull your hand out from under the hot door and ... bang goes the door onto the counter. Come on B&D. Biggest gripe: Toasting bread or a bagel takes FOREVER. Usually when making breakfast you do the toast last -- now it's the first thing I do when making a meal, it must take a FULL 10 MINUTES to toast a friggin bagel. Upside, it comes out nice when it's finally done. Another gripe: There is no way to shield the bottom heating element from food drippings. So a 12" pizza (which by the way slightly hangs over the sides of the rack, why does everyone say this size pizza fits?) drips cheese all over the elements and now you have the lovely smell of burnt cheese in your house for days until it finally burns off. Again, upside is whatever part of the pizza did not drip all over the heating elements comes out perfectly browned. Even with these issues, overall I really like the oven and feel it is an improvement over using the big oven for everything. ... show more

Just got this as a serious upgrade to a beat up toastmaster purchased from another retailer a few years back. I gotta say that thing chugged along, and is still working, but its a holy mess and it was time to send it packing. Otherwise it still works like a charm surprisingly. We just got some shiny new appliances, stainless steel grade, and the Toastmaster just didn't fit in anymore. Just so you know, this is not your mom's toaster oven. This thing is pretty big with lots of options, so have a decent sized counter space for it. It will need it. It cuts a nice profile though, and will work well looks wise if you have upgraded appliances. Also, this thing gets plenty hot, so give it some space towards the back, and keep any packaging you throw on your counter away from it and in a pantry. Getting back to the size for a second, my wife was a bit taken a back. She is used to smaller toaster ovens and is of the opinion that you don't need a toaster oven that looks its ready to blast off into space to make toast and bagels. Accept its also a convection oven, and there is the rub. If you are looking to save some money on a stove, you can save a lot by still getting something nice, but just not convection. Because convection ovens run you more money. So instead of spending an extra 250.00 on a convection oven we spent a quarter of that on this, and it does all the same things including baking, and even broiling a whole chicken! So you can keep it simple with this thing, or put it to the test and go make some home made cookies! I will tell you to be patient, at first, even if you are doing basic toasting, it seems to take forever and you will wonder what the heck is going on. This thing is a slow burn, literally, but for a good reason, because things come out nice and even. It goes from zero to sixty in about 3 mins and soon things get toasty fast. So much so that you really do need to let this thing cool down. So far I am impressed. it really does work nicely. Ps, a secret to having to constantly clean the bottom of the oven, Foil. What better way to catch all the crumbs then to make sure they never fall there in the first place. Keeps your maintenance duty much lighter. I do have one concern. I am used to knobs. Even though my toastmaster looked like it has been to hell and back, the knobs were solid and never gave out, and never fell off. It really was a champ. The buttons on this new fangled Black and Decker feel delicate and I do worry that over time, if one of those buttons ceases to function, it might be a serious problem. They feel a bit flimsy. But that is the way things are done with appliances these days, they are mostly all digital with no Knobs. I worry about the same thing with my Samsung washer and dryer, other then the settings button, all the other options are digital with soft buttons, if something goes wrong, Houston we have a serious problem. As long as that holds out, I have hope this will be more then just pretty, but last a really long time. PS, you really have to play with this thing to understand all it can do. The timing buttons are a bit odd and take practice. It definitely takes some getting used to. As of now I can recommend it highly, we shall see if it holds up like my old and gray toastmaster. ... show more

Careful, it's hot!

Had this for three months now. Since my gas bill went up to a ridiculous amount, I knew I had to make a change in the way I was cooking and needed to decide between getting a microwave or a convection oven (my apartment is small so space is limited). Since I knew I would be doing a lot more cooking than reheating, going with a convection oven was the better option. THE GOOD: - The oven has many setting options to choose from depending on your cooking needs. Me personally, I like to use the baking function for reheating food and the convection option if I'm cooking something raw. - It is probably the best oven I've had for making toast. I could never get the right doneness on old toaster ovens (one side would always be burnt) but this one cooks it perfectly - It preheats very quickly, signals when it is done preheating and also when the timer is up - It gets nice and hot. You don't really need to turn the oven up high for your food to cook. In fact, if I'm heating a frozen food item, I adjust the temp 25-50 degrees lower than what's recommended on the directions so it doesn't overcook - Also since the oven gets hot I use the top as a food warmer. If I'm making toast I put my stick of butter on top so that it can be soft when my toast is done. Pretty convenient - It comes with different trays to use for your food THE BAD: -It's quite large, and takes up a lot of space on my small counter -You do have to wait until the oven has finished preheating before you can adjust the timer. I haven't had an issue with this, but I do find it to be a bit of a design flaw -It gets hot - Literally! The whole entire oven gets hot. Be very careful if you need to take out food or change the settings while it's on. Yes, even the buttons get hot and you can burn yourself. Honestly, if you have children I would not recommend having this around as the risk of getting burnt is high if you're not careful - On other B&D models, there is a latch that would hook from the tray to the oven door so that when you open the door the tray would come out. I don't know why they left out this useful feature on this model but I do find it a pain having to reach in and pull the tray out every time - Also (compared to other B&D models) the door does not stick into place, so you cannot partly open it. I tried this the first time I opened the door and it slammed down on the counter. Luckily it did not break and I have been more cautious when opening it. Overall, it is a nice oven which does a lot. I use it everyday and I hope it lasts a long time. ***UPDATE: So the other day I put the silver tray in the dishwasher (because it said it was dishwasher safe) and when I removed it I noticed that the coating was coming off of it. Not a huge deal but a little disappointing. It is still usable but I may end up having to find a replacement sooner than I thought. If you decide to purchase this. make sure to wash the tray by hand and don't use anything abrasive on it (saw another review that said they used the blue scrubber and the coating came off as well). ... show more

Our previous convection toaster oven served us well over the years with 4 teenage boys and frozen pizzas. It finally gave out and they no longer made it anymore. Settled on this one for looks, price, convection, etc. After having used it for several weeks, I think I can give a fair review. I like it, it gets good and hot. For S&G, I timed how long it took to get to 350 degrees, exactly 4 mins. I mention this because I got very used to setting the timer to the shortest recommended time and put the food in as it was heating up. I guess this one takes a little longer to warm up because I noticed I didn't need the full amount of set time to cook. So now I still set it to the lowest time, I just start preheating first, before setting up whatever I was going to put in. Convection fan only works on the Bake mode. Just hit Bake, Convection fan, set the temp, then the timer and hit start. It's not an air fryer, But it bakes, re heats dinners and gives it a nice little browning if you like that. Biggest con is the door. You have to hold it all the way down, nothing stops it from hitting the counter hard if you let it go. The lettering is hard to see and read, especially at my age. Now, I've just got used to where my favorite buttons are. Toasting: I don't toast regular bread in it, but I've done some bagels and home baked bread that can be too thick for a toaster. I've noticed that it is uneven. Seems like the rear/upper is the hottest and browns quicker. Lastly, it has a little rounded, recessed area in the back and it seems like it could hold up to a 12" pizza. I put in a 11" plate and there was still a little gap to the door. It fits a 9x13 casserole dish WITHOUT handles. So, in all, it works well for us as empty nesters. Big enough to heat up food, bake some potatoes without having to use the big oven. Oh, and the rack can be moved into 4 different levels, two slots that it can slide into and you can put it upside down. ... show more

A Workhorse but does not last very long.

I have used this Toaster Oven Model for about 10 years now. It's great to cook up Chicken and Fish without having to use the big oven in the Kitchen. I use it quite a bit and tend to wear them out after about 2 years use. When it's time to replace it I always end up purchasing this same model. Pluses: Large Cooking Area, Digital Controls . Minuses: The Digital Controls buttons on the front slowly loose their function. The down button to adjust the Temp/Timer starts going bad after about year. This has happened on every model I have bought. In addition the black ink that displays the function of each button ( Start/Stop, Bake ,Toast Etc) eventually comes off the surface of the control panel. So keep the manual handy so you know which button is "Toast" . The top surface and the front control buttons run really Hot. I'll probably get the same model again next year. It's a workhorse but I wish it would last a little longer. ... show more
