    • BEST coffee maker by far, but came with mars on the surface
We bought this coffee maker a little more than 2 years ago and absolutely loved 3 specific features. The cleaning cycle brews the cleaning solution (we use citiric acid) halfway, then pauses to allow for internal soaking before it finishes. This cleaning feature ensures both longevity of the device and the best flavor. It also shoots water into the grounds at an angle that moves the grounds in a cyclone, stirring the grounds as it brews so that you get a much richer and less bitter brew. BRILLIANT!! AND, you have the option of quick brew or slow brew for a stronger cup of coffee without using more grounds!! BRILLIANT TIMES BRILLIANT!! The slow brew feature would not be of benefit without the feature that stirs the grounds. So, for all the super expensive coffee makers I've wasted money on over the years, this is, by far, the best purchase we've ever made in a coffee maker and the price is absolutely fantastic!! So, when we accidentally chipped the carafe after more than two years, I went looking to purchase just the carafe and discovered that I couldn't find the same style. The benefit of this carafe is that it has the metal band near the top. When I chipped the rim and the glass cracked, we could still use it until we could replace it because the metal band kept it functional and kept the crack from spreading. We also discovered that the price of a new coffee maker wasn't that much more than the price of a replacement carafe that wasn't even as good as the one I had chipped. I also found that all the Black+Decker newer models did not have this wonderful combination of features. One might have the cyclone function that stirs the grounds, but not the slow brew option or the cleaning cycle for better cleaning. The only way to get all those was to search for the older model we already had. I was thrilled to find them still available, but I fear they are no longer manufacturing models with this superior combination of freatures. The one thing I find annoying is that the new one has mars on the top (lid) that appears to be from rubbing against the packaging. I thought it was a residue from the styrofoam and tried to wash it off, which only made it slightly worse because it wasn't residue. The packaging had rubbed off some of the shiny surface. I'm hoping I can find some sort of durable polish to resurface it. It bothers me to have something so new looking so old!! So, to anyone considering this coffee maker, I don't think you will ever make a better coffee making purchase for the money and you might want to get this one while you can. I hope Black+Decker is reading this review and understands what a winning combination they achieved in this particular model. I used to think of other brands as superior to Black+Decker, but now I will look first at their products when purchasing appliances. Trustworthiness is the best way to build a brand!!!!     • Does more than make the coffee
I have always had a simple coffee maker that just made coffee. My last one gave out, so I tried this B&D because it had an auto-shutoff. But it has 4 features I really like, and have not had before: 1. Auto shut-off count down. You can select how long you want the warmer to run, then when the coffee has brewed, it starts counting down on the display to tell you how much longer before it cuts off. 2. A "stronger coffee" button. Press this before brewing and it brews much slower and pulls more flavor out of your coffee grounds. I like the flavor of the stronger coffee, but you could also use it to save a little money by getting more coffee brewed per pound of coffee used. 3. Set your time to start brewing. I guess this is a common feature on more expensive coffee makers, but I am now spoiled by it on this $40 coffee maker. In combination with the slower "stronger coffee" cycle, I just set it up to get started a little earlier. 4. It seems a small convenience, but the top of the water reservoir is larger than my last one, and much easier to pour in the water. ... show more

I recently bought a Cuisinart DCC-3000 that I was excited about. But by day 19 it started acting up, day 23 it was game over and I returned it a couple days later. I fell in love with it so this was very disappointing. I decided that if I am going to have problems with such an expensive coffee maker, I might as well go back to a cheaper model. I already drove myself nuts looking over all the models but this one seemed to be promising. I received it and have made coffee for 2 days now and it seems like it will work but that's still up for debate. It has a very deep basket and I hope that doesn't end up a problem. I am unsure how the vortex actually helps anything as it's not swirling around like a bagless vacuum...I even peeked in and seems like hype. I am going to have to play with the grounds because the same coffee, same amount is very strong and acidic tasting in this maker. But it was very easy to set up, without the instructions and it seems to do what it's supposed to. Plastic seems thin but at least the lid sort of latches when you put it down into place. And the carafe is thin but hopefully, it will hold up. People complain about other coffee makers having such short cords, even though they are quit long-this one has a shorter cord. After brewing is all over and you drank your last drop and go in to empty out the filter basket, the condensation on the lid will definitely run down the outside of the maker. Like others said, the auto-off timer is short. The other one could be set for as high as 4 hours. 3.5 was perfect for me. 120 hours is a bit on the short side. As for longevity and continually doing what it's supposed to...Time will tell. ... show more

I was looking for a nice simple programmable coffee maker. I saw this one and thought the price was very reasonable. I would give this a 5 star rating, except it brews so hot that you could burn yourself pretty bad if it spilled onto you. Wow. It really is hot.
