    • Cool Unit
My home HVAC compressor went out at the worst possible time. I purchased this to cool a room down until I could get the entire system replaced (a big, expensive job) and the "good" company I want is booked for a month. It was easy to install, although I had to get some ideas on how to install this type of A/C securely in a sliding window instead of a sash window (thanks, You Tube!). It is a little noisy on high. Not having experience with other units, I don't know if the noise levels are normal. The two fan vents are independently adjustable and can be directed left, straight or right, which I don't think is always an option on some units. It is very economical (my meter tells me how much electricity it is using and it is not costing much to run) and does a great job cooling. It has a nice remote control that is easy to use. The filter is also easy to remove, clean and re-install. Some of the fins were bent, but the packaging was solid, so I think that occurred at the factory.     • Decent AC with some major flaws
I've had this for a couple weeks now and it does a good job of cooling the room and has been able to keep it at a steady temperature throughout the day of it's running in standard (i.e. not economy) mode. There are a few flaws though, one of them major (for me at least): 1) The fan makes a lot or irregular noise. It's not super loud but obnoxious. The slower the fan runs, the more of that noise is produced. At stage one it's unbearable, at stage two and three it's ok. I sleep with earplugs so it doesn't bother me while sleeping, but it's odd and might even be a defect. 2) The shroud between the inner and outer parts of the AC is made of thin Styrofoam! I actually still can't quite believe that. It's so thin that in a darkened room it let's through so much light that it looks like the two fan opening are beacons! I'm a day sleeper and this is very bad for me. It lights up the entire room that's otherwise blacked out. My previous AC had no light at all come through so I didn't even think to look out for this, not that I think I would have been able to tell. 3) This same Styrofoam shroud being in the center of the AC is also exposed to outside weather. There are vent slits in the top of the AC and when it rains it's going to get wet. I'm not sure how Styrofoam reacts to that but I can't image it will last a very long time. I emailed the support email address a week ago on the above and received no response. I'm seriously disappointed after trusting the Black & Decker brand name. The whole thing seems to be built to fall apart after a year or two. I just can't image that the Styrofoam is going to hold up any longer than that, if that long. I'm considering returning it, but that's of course a major hassle now that it's installed. ... show more

    • Do not buy black and Decker!
Worked great for 35 days. Developed a nasty vibration when cooling. Amazon washing there hands of it because over 30 days. On hold for hour at black and Decker then automation says sorry and hangs up.

Product makes my room cold. BUT the noise it's annoying. There is a ECO function but it's always hot when I use this option that makes the A/C to turn off and keep quiet. The fan it's really noise. I don't get why it's looks like it's loose. other people complain about the same problem. So I guess it's common. I wish I had more money to invest in a better unit. One of the air condition is blowing out wam air; it hasn’t been the window less than 2 weeks; I’m having someone to come out to check it this weekend; if there is a problem, I’ll have to send it back!!

    • Too many issues
Have only used this for less than a month and am having issues with it. Product shuts off and on by itself and will change fan speeds. Disappointed since i like Black and Decker products usually.

This is a Great AC. It's quiet and very cold. I love the pull down to clean filter. I Hate those slide out filters!!!
